“Great location and value for money”
Reviewed 16 December 2013 via mobile

Ticks a lot of boxes in terms of being close to train station, friendly, helpful staff, clean and spacious rooms and good showers. Real plus point is location right next to night bazaar and only 5-10 minutes walk to Phae Gate. Only slight negative is that it can be a little noisy at night. But thats because of its great location and its not too bad.

This little number fits the bill for any type of traveler,it offers a great location right in the centre of Chiang Mai, one step onto the footpath and your in the thick of action, the hotel sets up a bar on the footpath so you can start your night with a nice cold drink before you start exploring the night market and bizzar which happens on the very same road and laneways which run from it.The rooms we had were the deluxe and lived up to every thing we required(roomy ,clean, fresh and rooms cleaned every day without any problems). On arrival the staff were very friendly and very helpful in everything we asked of them, the breakfast was very filling and offered a good choice for every traveler be it western or traditional asian food.We booked our tours and on forward travel to Chiang Rai through the little tour desk at the lobby and the lady was ever so helpful and even reccomended some great restuarants to try.Its has a nice swimming pool area so you can unwind after a busy day out exploring.Great value hotel well worth giving this hotel a go you wont be dissapointed, we would make this our first choice when we return to Chiang Mai.

Room Tip: Maybe ask for a room away from the lift well area.

We checked in 11 and checked out 14 Dec.
We had 2 interconnecting rooms.
Hotel is supposed to be smoke free (?) but we had ashtrays in our rooms.
Front desk personnel could speak English and communication was no problem.
Rooms were spacious and clean. Pillows were too soft though.
Swimming pool was small and not for kids as depth was 1.45m to 2.45m.
Breakfast was not interesting as spread was almost same for all 3 days.
Location was the only plus factor as it was in heart of night markets and bazaars. But after one round, we didn't find anything interesting cos the stalls were simply duplicating merchandise.
Massages were aplenty but quality and ambience was lacking.
Overall, this rating is purely due to location factor only.

Thank you for your comment and we shared with all members to improve those points in the hotel, not the swimming pool depth.

Trust you understand that we cannot manage any items sold and the massages outside the hotel.

We all look forward to welcoming you to our Royal Princess in the future.

The location is its biggest plus point and what attracts guests to this hotel. The rooms and bathrooms are ok. needs refurbishment specially the carpets. Staff is helpful. The doorman and security will always help you cross the road or get a taxi. We were there for the Kings bday and took part in the candle lighting ceremony with the hotel staff. At any time you can just sit out and watch the world go by.

My friends and I stayed in this hotel for 5 days.

We were welcomed by helpful, polite and efficient hotel staff and a refreshing welcome drink.

We stayed in a deluxe room. It did not have any nice view but the room was spacious, clean and comfortable. It was quite well-equipped though there was no iron and certain items like slippers, shower caps, coffee powder... were only enough for either one or two guests but there were three of us. As we had already paid for the extra bed, we were expecting that there should be adequate supply for all of us. We believe that if we were to call and ask the house keeping to provide the items, they would be more than happy to do it, but... it was too troublesome.

The temperature of the air-con in the room could not be adjusted. It was either very cold or nothing. As such, we had to switch off the air-con before we went to sleep and turn it on again during the night when the air circulation was poor.

The location of this hotel was excellent. Anusarn night market is about 5-min walk from the hotel. The famous Saturday and Sunday night markets are also nearby (15 to 20min walk). For those who do not like walking, they can always hope into a red taxi which charges only 10 to 20 thbt per person for the trip.
McDonalds and Subway are just opposite the hotel. For people who get tired of tomyum soup after a few days, they can always go for the fast food. For those who love buffet, they can go for the Japanese shabu shabu buffet which costs 339thbt, but they have to finish eating within 1h 15 min. I think the price is reasonable, in view of the spread of the buffet and the quality of the food.

I will definitely stay in this hotel again in my next visit.

Stayed for three nights at the end of November, it is very pleasant although in need of refurbishment in places. The elevator doors snap together in seconds, which became a source of amusement for us, although I felt sorry for the porters struggling with luggage. As mentioned in most reviews, the location is ideal and indeed Chiang Mai is easy to navigate on foot. One problem we did encounter was trying to book an early alarm call for our excursion days, reception failed to execute this, so we were rushing around having overslept. We asked for a call for the following morning, and again no call. We did mention this to reception and all they could do is check their book and confirm our booking, I can't help thinking perhaps we should have done something else, so do ensure you also set your own alarm if you want to guarantee waking up in time..

Room Tip: Views from this hotel are not great even on the higher floors and some noise from the night market c...

This was my husbands fourth time & my third time at the Royal Princess, our friends first. We were greeted & treated like family. I became ill on our third night. The hotel security officer drove my husband & i to the hospital, waited for my husband to drive him back after i was admitted. The hotel then provided a car & driver for my husband & friend to visit me twice a day. A staff member from reception & the bar visited me in hospital & bought flowers. All the staff including the manager with whom we had contact expressed concern & good wishes to my husband & our friend.
The hotel is clean, comfortable, quiet and in a great location. The breakfast buffet is extensive and good value. Walk out the door to the middle of the night market. The Kitchen Restaurant across the road was our local. They have an extensive menu, food delicious & staff delightful.
All in all we felt right at home and would not stay anywhere else. We will be back.
The hospital on the other hand ..well thats a whole other story. However i did survive.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel- quiter.
