I'll go along with what appears to be the majority view. This was clearly once a very good hotel and still is adequate but it is looking tired. Its location isn't ideal for those wanting to explore the more touristic parts of the city. You'll need to take a tuk-tuk or songthaew to get to the night bizaar for example.

Stayed a couple of nights. Hotel is beside a huge shopping mall that is also seen better days and close to the NE corner of the moat that surrounds the old centre of Chiang Mai.

The rooms at the back of the hotel have a view of a rather bleak looking multistory car park. Breakfast selection was quite good and is buffet style with tables inside or on a large patio on the busy main road. There is a large pool but the sun loungers and pads are few and in a pathetic state, which demonstrates management’s disinterest in the property. There is also a large gym but equipment is old and not very well maintained.

Overall, it’s ok if you get a good rate but with not much effort you can find better.

perhaps the rooms could make do with some changes,
only the light at the dressing table was working but fixed fast.
breakfast was nothing to shout about, better food just outside the hotel.

buzzin mosquitos at the lobby bar and lounge, outside at the smoking
area as well.
towels at swimming pool requires replacement and the male changing
room is in horibble condition.

Room Tip: check the available rooms first...

Location from airport not too far, you can take airport taxi for cost THB 120/car.
For back to airport from hotel, you can use hotel shuttle for cost THB 100/person. If you more than 1 person, better find local taxi/tuk-tuk.

Near hotel any big shopping mall, you can buy some of clothesm coffee, or local food here.

7/11 just across road in front hotel.

Have big swimming pool, and big room also.

The Orchird Hotel is hotel is a 10-15 minute taxi ride from the airport at a cost of 120 Baht (2.50 GBP). It is an old Thai style hotel with a lot of dark wood. It is in a good location near the North West corner of the moat and next to Central, Huay Kaew Rd. Shopping Centre which is the second largest shopping centre in Chiang Mai. The hotel has been one that I have stayed in several times over the years because of its location next to the shopping centre but as I have commented on previous occasions the owners do very little to update, improve and modernise it. There is no in room safety box and when I went to get one at reception at 8pm the two young persons on duty had difficulty finding the keys to open the boxes. Eventually they told me they were all full but I suspected they simply did not know how to open them. That proved correct when they suddenly managed to get the right key and give me a box. In the room there was no coffee or tea making equipment but there were two free bottles of water. The room was clean and reasonably comfortable although the bathroom was old and the water was a fine spray out of the sink tap. The bed and pillows afforded a good sleep. The shower head in the bath was below my eyes so I had to bend down when taking a shower. I am not particularly tall at 6ft. The toilet was also that old style making it necessary to put the toilet lid down or reach behind it to get to the lever to flush it and it is necessary to hold the level down to ensure it flushes. The pool is perhaps one of the biggest hotel pools in Chiang Mai but several years ago I mentioned to the management that the steps going into them only extending a short way into the water making it difficult to climb out. Nothing has been done to remedy this minor but annoying fault which could have easily been fixed cheaply. The in room free WIFI internet worked well and the TV had several English news channels. On this occasion I did not book breakfast since it is mainly Thai style and for a late riser like myself there are better options in the shopping mall. The hotel has room service but it stops at midnight.
