“Off season”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2013

Spending time in off season is so much off. Staff ignorant, no service, unproper behaviour of restaurant-staff. everything working with mininum of effort from staff. Only good thing, I can think off is, that the elevators were working. Small rooms, lousy bathrooms.no service around pool-area. Reception is sort of working, but a general very bad experience, considering price and former reviews. Not to be recommmended in off-season

We paid over 1000 Baht for a room in the Tower part of the hotel. It is simply over priced. The room is simple with ugly and old decor form the (80's or older). We stayed in a guesthouse the day before and paid half the price for a better place. The beds were fine. The plugs in the bathroom constantly clogged, so a shave became a joke and a shower meant standing in the gunk from your friend, that had not yet drained.

The balcony overlooked a parking lot, dire view.

The elevators were crazy, some buttons didn't work and on certain floors you were unable to get onto it. There was another service elevator that you had to gamble on whether or not it was busy. There was a sign saying something like : We are in the process of sorting it out, but after two days it is simply not on. Another elevator simply stood shut. What gets me is that the fire escape was pathetic (I thought that I will just take the stairs) and would you believe it the door to the second floor had no handle, the ground floor was also blocked off and the lights were off. God forbid there is a fire.

The pool area is fine.

The breakfast was also okay.

The staff were really unfriendly and I felt as if I were a burden unto them, not a feeling I associate with a hotel.

The final kicker was the wi fi. At every single Guesthouse I stayed at, I had free wi fi. Most of the coffee shops and restaurants have it and yet Holiday Garden wanted me to pay for it. 100 baht for 24 hours, that is such a tiny amount. The amount is not the issue, I simply cannot understand why a paying client at your hotel needs to be charged for Wi Fi. The wi fi was also pathetically slow.

It is also far from everything.

All in all get a guest house or a reputable hotel.

We stayed here one night before we flew out of Chiang Mai.. It was $30 AUD.. We had a great room.. nice big bed, bathroom was good.. Very clean and stylish.. Staff were helpful.. We were first taken to a room with twin beds and when I said "We ordered a double bed room" they changed it straight away and took us to the room I had booked, no hassles at all. Our friends stayed in the cheaper option in this hotel and they were not as happy.. so spend the extra and get the more mildly expensive room! I would come here again if I was in Chaing Mai.

Room Tip: Pay the small amount extra and get the nicer room.. worth it!

We stayed there for a few nights and found the rooms bit on the small side. The buffet breakfast had a nice variety to choose from though it was the same offerings each day. Sometimes there was hot water for the showers and other times it wasn't working. One night there was a grand opening for a nearby plaza so there was loud music occurring into the late hours. Another night there was a graduation party held in the courtyard that had the windows and doors rattling because of the music. The staff were friendly and helpful.

YES "STAY AWAY" as Cris from Rio wrote. Totally agree - STAY AWAY!!! I went there with my girlfriend and we planned to stay for a week. On arrival, it was disappointingly located quite far from market area. Rooms were less than basic and very ugly. On the first day, we needed to change some details to courses we had arranged through the hotel. The staff were so unhelpful and unfriendly. After travelling thousands of miles to get there, it was disappointing/depressing to have this attitude. We changed hotel and payed again for the second one, but didn't mind. It was just such a relief to leave. The other place was fine... Mark (Spain)

I was there for a seminar. The tower rooms are bit old, but ok. Food was great and lots of choice. Bit far from center of cith, but easy to get cheap taxi(red car) at 20THB each ride to anywhere. All staff are so freindly and helpful all the time. No bed bags (the review in the past mentioned) are found during our courses over 2 weeks. Nothing special but great value for money!!!

Tower rooms are old and a bit run down. I was there for a seminar and so had breakfast and lunch included in price so value for money for me was quite good. Wifi not free and doesn't work everywhere on property, but did work in room without problem. Buffet breakfast & lunch was good, nice enough swimming pool, staff don't speak a lot of English but always helped with any question or request I had. Location is 15mins taxi away from night bazaar area but many eateries walking distance away on main road heading towards hills, cheap laundry & massage 3min walk from hotel
