For under 600 THB a night this hotel was exceptional value and a great base to explore Chiang Mai and surrounding areas from. The room was spacious, cleaned every day and made our 6 nights there very comfortable. The owner is very friendly and doesn't hesitate to help if you need anything.

We had no issue with the location and actually preferred being the 5-10 min taxi from the old city (it was only 20 THB each anyway). It also meant we benefited from a quiet night's sleep. In terms of finding the hotel, all taxi / tuk tuk drivers know the Kad Sun Kaew shopping centre very well, this is just across the road from Varada place.

Worth noting the construction work opposite the hotel others have mentioned below is almost finished now and shouldn't cause much, if any, disturbance. There is no breakfast on offer but we used the supermarket within the aforementioned shopping centre to pick up some supplies. The rooms have fridges which was useful.

Tip - A 5 minute tuk tuk west (i.e. the opposite direction to the old city) will take you to the new shopping centre (MAYA). From here walk south down Nimmanhemin road and you'll find many great bars / restaurants with a very local feel. There's virtually no tourists and hence no tourist traps, offering a very authentic night at various evening venues.

We stayed here for 4 nights. Varada is very nice and kind person. She always thinks for her customers. She helped us to arrage the taxi service and gave us quite a few great advice on how to explore her city. She recommended us a local Northern Thai style restaurant with reasonable prices. We love the food a lot, we had 3 meals there. We also bought several scarves for ourselves and our friends at the 2 nearby shops she told us which turned out to sell real hight quality Thai silk. The room is very cosy, clean and comforrable and just make you feel like staying at your home. So without hesitation, I booked another night after we returned from Chiang Rai. She was very considerate to put our luggage in our room. During the final night, we tried the Thai massage just next to her place, a very good experience. She also helped me send some postcards because I hadn'd got enough time to go to the post office. I think this hotel has the best value in Chiang Mai. I am more than happy to visit her city again in near future and absolutely I will choose to stay at her place. Already starting to expect the next trip.

We stayed here with a group of four, for a couple of nights. The rooms were very comfortable and spacious, with perfect air conditioning. Varada is a character and a lovely lady. she helped us book our elephants tour and taxis. She looked after our luggage while we went to pai. Thank you for a perfect stay.

To be honest i can not really fault the place. Me and my friend stayed there for 5 nights and we're happy we chose this hostel. There is a shopping place nearby and a few good places for food. It is kinda far from all the action but that's what we wanted. A taxi to town is 20 baht and Verada made sure we knew that so we wouldn't get ripped off. She gave us other great advice on what to see and do while we stayed there.

The rooms were clean and nice, the cleaning lady came by every day to bring new towels and stuff. One night i forgot my room key and the night guard was nice enough to let me in.

Overall we will definitely go back there again, lovely place to stay at! :)

Stayed here late july for a couple of nights - only booked one night and there wasn't room for the next 2 nights so Varada helped us find somewhere else where, then we came back for the final night. I have read some of teh bad reviews and have to disagree. You cannot blame somewhere for not doing proper research! The hotel is a clean, friendly place for people on a budget. It is not meant to be 5 star - and yet it is just as clean and comfortable. The tv works very well, the shower is very strong and the bed is pretty big (double). I would really reccommend it. As for those saying that it was far away - you should have done your research. It is not far away - it's a 20 minute walk if you're not walking snails pace, and once you get to the main road you can hail a taxi which is 20 baht for a 6 minute ride to the centre. It's really not difficult. I personally think it's a great location. It isn't right in the centre, but is therefore nice and quiet and let's you see a side of the town you might not otherwise see. As for drivers not being able to find it - Verada gives you a map, and tells you places of interest (very helpful and friendly woman with a good sense of humour!) but also gives you a business card with the address and a map on the back. All you have to do is take one of these cards and show it to the dirver and he knows! I think a lot of people want a lot for a little bit of money and that's just not feasible however i think that with verada place you get more for your money. If you like somewhere very clean, comfortable, with good aircon, friendly and don't mind a short walk to the centre (god forbid you get some exercise) then this is the place for you! amazing value for money! Also, if you're spending that much time in your hotel room then you're doing it wrong!

Room Tip: upstairs would be a little better - sometimes you can hear people when they check in but verada is so quick and efficient this last only a few minutes and is usually not too early like 9am ish
