Best hostel in chaing mai...

Review of FWD House
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 20 Jan 2013
Don't be fooled by the exterior of FWD house because inside its another story. Clean, spacious, not an insect in sight. Lockers under your bed. Although you can leave your stuff around and nobody will touch it. I trust the owners with my life. They're trustworthy, reliable and cater to your every need. I had a short amount of time to do everything so when some of my activities couldn't be done the hostel owner took us in his own car and made sure I got to see chaing mai. He's got the patience if an elephant lol. The showers were warm unlike others who claim they are but aren't. This is the best hostel I've stayed in during the whole of my stay in Thailand. Will definitely be going back at that price too. Thanks win & min xxx

Really dont know why this place is rated as excellent. The price is way to high for what you get. The ppl are indeed very friendly but some things - what make a place great - really do need improvement. First of all the price wasn't 250 as noticed online, but 280 because I stayed "just two nights".
When you travelling alone and want to meet ppl, this is not the place. The communal area is not a place you want to sit for fun and the dorm is depressive (an other guest described it like a 'mental institution'). They did a hard job trying to make the bathroom look "cool". But in the end its a bad lighted place with no atmosphere. Some graffiti will look good in there. Please clean the sink towel provided, same for bath towel, as they ask ppl to get there shoes off. It both looks proper grey and dirty. About towels, for 280 a night I expect to get a towel on my bed when I arrive,
The cleanness is not ok in my bed as well. Hairs were still on the pillow and I'm pretty sure they didnt clean the sheets; as there were clear turn wrinkles on the bed. (and please remove plastic of mattresses! who wants to sleep on foil, like children pie in there bed all the time?!!)
This place is fine, its what to expect of it. But certainly not worth more than 150 baht. As you can get a proper private in Chiang Mai for 200 baht, and a really good dorm for 120 baht...

Dear Miss Psy.,

Thank you so much for your commentary about our hostel.

The first topic, Our rating are excellent because Our hostel never have Psychosis guest before. Every guest understood and respected Our rules. Instance, We told you many...ny many times about shoes. If you only one made a dirty in the room, the other might use the dirty room until cleaning time on the next day. But you still wore stu... shoes and walked around the room. You didn't care and never feel ashamed with other. Everyone saw the board showed "Take off your shoes". It's basic manner and very easy to do it, just took off and leaved the shoes at that place. Kids could do it except you. I think you love Parasite or Bacteria and you wanted to keep it with you and share to every guest.

The second topic, when you checked in, you said that you didn't like your last two places that you stayed before because there were Noisy and Dirty Place and also you needed to sleep at quiet Hostel. I knew that you slept well every nights but I didn't know what's your objectives in your review?
or just pretext for cancellation your booking because you book to stay more than 2 nights.

The third topic,My hostel were not Hospital or 5star hotel that change the sheet everyday but we cleaned some dirty for you and we couldn't clean every lines of hair because it's too much on your bed and you stayed only 2 nights( you went out at day time). If who longer, we will change after 3 or 4 days.

The last topic, the valves between online and walk-in were different promotion. You though the other dorm were cheaper (you said correct) but why you moved from last two hostels and needed to stay with us by walk-in.

Our hostel style just settled the single bed with own privacy space and locker and plug and A/C and WIFI in dorm room.

Different but good!!

P.S. who read this review, you should think a lot about it. it's True or Not true!!!

An excellent Hostel, I stayed at FWD for two weeks and loved it. The owners Win and Phon are truly lovely people who look after every need you have out there. The hostel has everything you want, privacy, great hostel atmosphere, cleanliness, comfort, close to everything. Win has some great contacts around the city so anything you need they can organise, and at the best prices. We made some really good friends there particularly with Win and Phon. This place is truly a home away from home.

This is lovely little hostel in Chiang Mai and I stayed here for two nights in January 2013. The hostel is small with only ten beds, but is clean and comfortable.

The pros of this hostel have been higlighted by other reviews. For me, the negatives were only one shower having hot water (the second shower only had cold water) and the air conditioning only running between 8pm and 8am (which meant the room was rather hot if you wanted to have an afternoon nap). The service was generally quite good, although I did detect a clear preference to book day trips and excursions with the hostel rather than independently.

This hostel can be difficult to find and on a number of occassions taxis were unable to find it. A helpful tip is to ask to be taken to one of the nearby temples. The hostel is approximately 20 minutes walk from the Night Market.

There may be newer hostels out there but I doubt that they can provide the same service and warmth as FWD. They've only got about ten beds so it's nice and cosy and it feels like a home away from home. This place was spotless and the showers werr clean as well. No hot water in the shower though. The hostel is located pretty much in the centre of the old city and you can walk everywhere. It's also one minute away from the Sunday Market.

The owners, Wyn and Phon, are great and will take care of your every need. Phon is also hilarious and will make sure that her husband gives you a discount for tours should you book it from them.

You can stay at the newer hostels owned by Expats and huge hostel companies or you can choose FWD and be wowed by awesome Thai friendliness and hospitality.

I stayed at FWD house for a few days in August and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Win and his family are the warmest people you could hope to meet in Chiang Mai. The hostel is very well laid out, as previously mentioned- the "box" beds are a truly wonderful idea, providing a sense of space and privacy. The internet and aircon were top notch, and Win provided me with assistance in all my travel needs. I would not hesitate to stay here again! Thank you!

Room tip: Book early to avoid disappointment! They were booked out on one of the nights that I was interested in staying, but when learning this, Win drove me to another hostel that I could stay in :)
