Heart of the city- feeling like a rural location

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 7 May 2019
Excellent location just a stones throw from Thapae Gate in the heart of the old city. Very quiet despite that, well apart from very early morning calls from the local rooster! The staff are absolutely first class and the breakfasts are very good with a wide selection of options.
My only complaint would be the lack of electric sockets in the bedroom

This was the best hotel we stayed in on our Thailand trip. It’s in a great location too with plenty of surrounding bars and restaurants.

We arrived pretty early in the morning, around 08.30am, as we had travelled to Chiang Mai via the overnight train from Bangkok. As soon as we arrived we both felt the hotel projected a lovely calming tranquil vibe. It’s set back from the road down a bamboo lined walkway and is like some kind of secret garden - it’s absolutely beautiful. Here the little things matter - everything is immaculate and presented to a very high standard.

On arrival staff were so welcoming, cold towels and a little cup of ice cold ,what tasted like, raspberry leaf tea were provided and we were politely told our room wasn’t ready - which was as expected as check in was from 2pm. Staff were very helpful providing a city map and explaining what was good to do in the morning while we waited for our room - bags were securely stored. There is a complimentary walking tour each day too.

We stayed in a Lanna Room 2203 -not in the main courtyard. This is the most basic room they hotel offers. The room was lovely; immaculate and very pretty. However, it didn’t have much natural light as there were only two tiny widows - it wasn’t ‘bright and airy’ like the pictures on the website but I think this was just our luck with the room layout - it’s was still a lovely room. It was so nice to stay somewhere that didn’t require a room card to keep the aircon on which seems to be the trend now. This meant we always came back to a lovely cool room which was bliss. The bathroom was built into the sloping eaves - which meant that if you were over 5ft 6ish you would struggle with this and the shower was mounted very low down. It was fine for my partner and I as we are quite short. I think this is likely the case with most of the upstairs rooms so maybe request a room on the ground floor if this would bother you. It was however spotlessly clean. Turn down and room cleaning service carried out every day, free water, fruit, tea and coffee all replenished. Good WiFi everywhere in the hotel.

The pool area is beautiful, the pool itself is quite warm, plenty of sun beds and towels available. We didn’t eat dinner in the hotel as it was pricey as were the drinks compared to elsewhere but breakfast was superb. Egg station, lots of pastries, cereals, hams, meats, cheeses and traditional Thai if you wanted. They even served Bircher muesli which impressed me - it was delicious.

The staff here are fantastic and can not do enough to help. We had booked a cooking course before travelling with an external company and they were meant to pick us up from the hotel - they were late and when we asked the staff if they would mind calling the company for us to find out what had happened there wasn’t a moments hesitation.

The hotel does provide a wide selection of tours (pretty much standard of what is offered elsewhere) but they are at an inflated price. If you can be bothered I would do some research before coming and find cheaper alternatives with good reviews that will likely offer the same thing.

All in all this was a fantastic hotel - with a very high attention to detail - we would definitely come again and in all honesty were gutted we couldn’t stay longer.

A lovely little boutique hotel right near the centre however it’s tranquil and peaceful which is perfect after a busy day.
Very friendly and welcoming staff, good choice at breakfast and a good variety on the lunch menu.
Lovely little pool with access to fresh towels whenever needed
Would 100% recommend to anyone visiting to Chiang Mai

Stayed at the tamarind village for 5 nights.
The boutique hotel is 1st class.
The staff will bend over backwards to help you. Nothing is to much trouble. The rooms are very clean also the beds are very comfortable.
We had B&B the breakfast is really nice. They have a cooking station outside cooking fresh eggs, bacon, sausage’s, pancakes and a few other items.
Like I said the staff really do make this hotel 1st class.
The restaurant serves food all day if you want lunch or dinner. We had a traditional Thai food the first night of our stay. Also the food was perfect.

Absolutely loved this hotel. A very quaint and pretty boutique with extremely friendly staff. It is designed in a traditional Thai style with a huge Tamarind Tree as its centrepiece.
We arrived in the morning, several hours before check in time. We were greeted with cold towels and iced tea and were given private access to the spa to freshen up. We were then taken on the complementary village walk with a very knowledgeable tour guide. The walk lasted about 2 hours and included visits to several temples all designed in different styles, as well as being shown how to make a traditional Buddhist offering.
When we arrived back after the walk we were advised that our room was ready early.
The rooms are fairly small but clean and well maintained. Good standards of WiFi and air conditioning in the rooms.
We received a delivery of complementary fresh fruit each day along with a short story about the old Lanna Kingdom.
We went on 2 private excursions (1 full day and 1 half day) which cost £360 in total for 2 people and were excellent value for money. We were driven around in a private, air conditioned car with massage chairs, a knowledgeable 1to1 tour guide and driver. Lunch was provided and was to a very high standard, with water, snacks and cold towels being supplied throughout the day.
The full day excursion included visits to a hot spring, the ornate White Temple, a Karen Tribe Village, the Opium Museum and the beautiful Golden Triangle river border between Thailand, Myanmar and Laos.
The half day excursion included a visit to the Bhuping Palace, a Meo Tribe Village, the Doi Suthep mountain with its view over Chiang Mai and the Doi Suthep Temple located there.
We enjoyed a very cultural experience and would highly recommend this hotel.

Lovely tranquil setting in the heart of Chiang Mai. Our room was on the first floor with a balcony overlooking the 200 year old Tamarind tree. Loved our balcony where we could sit and relax and watch the squirrels running up and down the tree or just listen to the sound of birds. Our room was clean and cool with adjustable air conditioning and the beds very comfortable. Each day our toiletries were replenished, along with 4 bottles of water and fresh fruit. The staff work so hard and were always so happy to help and nothing was too much trouble and we were made so welcome. The pool was clean and there were always plenty of clean towels for the guests. Dining was excellent with so much to choose from and the food was fresh and vibrant. I am still reminiscing about the coconut ice cream with mango and sticky rice as well as and ice cold fresh coconut water by the pool. Everything about this hotel was wonderful, from its size, the staff, the location and the food and even though we stayed the night in Chiang Rai in another luxury hotel we couldn't wait to get back 'home' to our beautiul room in the Tamarind. If we ever return to Chiang Mai this will be our hotel of choice. Highly recommended and thank you to everyone for our wonderful stay.
