Beautiful and peaceful

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 23 May 2019via mobile
We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Tamarind Village. The hotel is beautiful and peaceful despite its central location. Every single member of staff has been so welcoming and kind. In particular, thank you to Kanchana who welcomed us when we arrived and also took us on a brilliant trip to Doi Suthep temple - we had a fantastic time. Thank you!

Everything about this location was amazing. The staff cant do enough for you, the room was very clean and quirky. Absolutely loved it here. Great location! The grounds are clean and tidy. We only went to the spa to get the free 10 minute massage as like all hotels the spa is a little too expensive. It is so peaceful.

Absolutely loved our 3 night stay here. Staff are very attentive, warm and friendly but you can say that about pretty much anywhere. The hotel is located within the old town wall and you can walk through a "canopy" of bamboo up the drive to get to the entrance. Check in was pretty swift and the room big enough not to be too cosy. Behind what I thought was a cupboard is the bathroom with shower and toilet. The bed was comfortable and we got good night's sleep. Yes, you can hear the roosters but they did not keep me awake; to me they gave the place a rural feel. Rather a croaking rooster than an aeroplane overhead is my view. What I loved about the place was the decor and atmosphere, plus the little touches such as 2 bottles of free water and the gorgeous complementary toiletries. Fruit was available as well, and I felt bad for not eating it all. It's a very homely hotel. Breakfast was plentiful and the omelettes very nice and well presented. There were lots of unusual juices for us and enough choice to fill your belly.

Outside is a Sunday night market that you walk straight into on leaving the hotel. Very interesting but also very busy.

I would not hesitate to come back. We did glitzy in Bangkok so this was a great change from that.

Room tip: We asked for a quiet room high up and were granted our wish

Arrived at this hotel from Bangkok on a Sunday. It was the evening of the street market which is amazing. People bustling around, lots to buy and lots to see. If you can try and get to this market - it was the best one we attended in the areas we travelled in Thailand.
The hotel was beautiful. We had a room with a veranda opening out to the courtyard with the Tamarind tree. Everything was clean and tidy, with lovely orchids and fresh fruit. The bathroom was very well equipped with everything you need for your stay.
In the evening the staff would offer to turn down your bed leaving little gifts for us.
The pool was a welcome sight after days out sightseeing.
We booked the village tour with a villager the next morning, which was free, and was over the moon with the tour. The villager took us around the area visiting places to eat, temples and taking us to offer gifts to the monks. This is a must do couple of hours as sets you up for your time in Chiang Mai.
Trips can be organised from the hotel and they are very helpful.
We actually booked our trips before we left the UK and were not disappointed.
We took a trip to an elephant sanctuary where we interacted with two ex-show/street elephants. Such a fabulous experience - we fed, walked, washed, bathed and ate Thai food with the owners of the sanctuary. Such a hands on experience that I would recommend to anyone, young and older... we are 50 plus. It was probably one of the highlights of the trip for us.
We did a morning trip to temples and early morning alms with offerings to the monks. This was a fab trip.
Breakfast at the Tamarind was exceptional, served with such grace and kindness.
Check in and out was good and I would definitely return.
This is a quite hotel, tranquil and relaxing, for us this was perfect.

Room tip: All the rooms are beautiful

Excellent location just a stones throw from Thapae Gate in the heart of the old city. Very quiet despite that, well apart from very early morning calls from the local rooster! The staff are absolutely first class and the breakfasts are very good with a wide selection of options.
My only complaint would be the lack of electric sockets in the bedroom

This was the best hotel we stayed in on our Thailand trip. It’s in a great location too with plenty of surrounding bars and restaurants.

We arrived pretty early in the morning, around 08.30am, as we had travelled to Chiang Mai via the overnight train from Bangkok. As soon as we arrived we both felt the hotel projected a lovely calming tranquil vibe. It’s set back from the road down a bamboo lined walkway and is like some kind of secret garden - it’s absolutely beautiful. Here the little things matter - everything is immaculate and presented to a very high standard.

On arrival staff were so welcoming, cold towels and a little cup of ice cold ,what tasted like, raspberry leaf tea were provided and we were politely told our room wasn’t ready - which was as expected as check in was from 2pm. Staff were very helpful providing a city map and explaining what was good to do in the morning while we waited for our room - bags were securely stored. There is a complimentary walking tour each day too.

We stayed in a Lanna Room 2203 -not in the main courtyard. This is the most basic room they hotel offers. The room was lovely; immaculate and very pretty. However, it didn’t have much natural light as there were only two tiny widows - it wasn’t ‘bright and airy’ like the pictures on the website but I think this was just our luck with the room layout - it’s was still a lovely room. It was so nice to stay somewhere that didn’t require a room card to keep the aircon on which seems to be the trend now. This meant we always came back to a lovely cool room which was bliss. The bathroom was built into the sloping eaves - which meant that if you were over 5ft 6ish you would struggle with this and the shower was mounted very low down. It was fine for my partner and I as we are quite short. I think this is likely the case with most of the upstairs rooms so maybe request a room on the ground floor if this would bother you. It was however spotlessly clean. Turn down and room cleaning service carried out every day, free water, fruit, tea and coffee all replenished. Good WiFi everywhere in the hotel.

The pool area is beautiful, the pool itself is quite warm, plenty of sun beds and towels available. We didn’t eat dinner in the hotel as it was pricey as were the drinks compared to elsewhere but breakfast was superb. Egg station, lots of pastries, cereals, hams, meats, cheeses and traditional Thai if you wanted. They even served Bircher muesli which impressed me - it was delicious.

The staff here are fantastic and can not do enough to help. We had booked a cooking course before travelling with an external company and they were meant to pick us up from the hotel - they were late and when we asked the staff if they would mind calling the company for us to find out what had happened there wasn’t a moments hesitation.

The hotel does provide a wide selection of tours (pretty much standard of what is offered elsewhere) but they are at an inflated price. If you can be bothered I would do some research before coming and find cheaper alternatives with good reviews that will likely offer the same thing.

All in all this was a fantastic hotel - with a very high attention to detail - we would definitely come again and in all honesty were gutted we couldn’t stay longer.
