“Oh my gosh - a jewel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 April 2013

Spent 3 nights in this hotel in Feb/Mar 2013. We were upgraded when we arrived. the room was amazing, the location is excellent, the night market is literally on the doorstep where you can shop from around 5pm to midnight and beyond. The staff friendly and food good.
Only criticism was that pool was being renovated but we were taken by shuttle to a sister hotel to use their facilities.

Room Tip: We had a deluxe room (upgrade). Unfortunately, due to the fact that this hotel is in the centre of C...

Renovations notwithstanding the hotel has a few issues that could be easily enough addressed.

-The wifi is woefully inconsistent, with multiple dropouts and the annoying need for repeated logins
-Breakfast is substantial, but nothing special with very little in the way of choice
-TV channel choice is lousy for a native English speaker, unless you are a huge BBC World News fan
-The temporary lobby is a long way around the corner from the old main entrance, yet it is not sign-posted in any way. Even locals are confused as to the whereabouts of the reception desk

On the positive side, staff was generally helpful and the tariff is very affordable. Proximity to the Night Market is a huge plus.

Room Tip: Try for a renovated room

I stayed in the remnants of the operating hotel, the main part is shut and being renovated, so its down a side street to an unsigned entrance to access the lobby.

The staff were officious and helpful, I was happy with the room and was paying a special promo rate , I would hate to pay full quoted room rack price , the rooms are tad tired for a 4 star hotel rating although that would change once the renovations will be complete in the main complex .

The room was large and clean and tidy the daily cleaning staff did a good job

Breakfast was good and plenty of choice some dishes were not covered eg the sausages and potatoe dishes were luke warm at best, while the egg cook and soups etc were great, the staff were very thoughtful an helpful

The position of the hotel was perfect for me near the night markets and a tuk tuk ride from anyhere in Chang Mai, trips and tours can be organised from a desk in the lobby

All in all I enjoyed my stay at the hotel and would look to in staying again but would check trip advisor reviews when the works are complete

This hotel is ungoing renovations and is a little disjointed , long walk from hotel entrance to reception, staff were friendly and helpfull . Breakfast was adequate but choices could have been better. Are room has not been renovated as yet and was very tired but clean.
Position of hotel is ideal for night market.

I stayed here in February 2013 for 4 nights, the reception is a strange affair, having been dropped off at the front of the hotel we then had a long walk with our cases through the hotel to get to the reception which was more at the rear, the staff were incredibly friendly on arrival in fact all of our stay so a massive thank you for them, we got our key went to the room and considering it was listed as a 4 star I did find that a little frugal with the truth, the room was an ok size but desperately needed updating/freshening up and painted, having said that we enjoyed our stay here, it is literally on the doorstep of the night bazaar which is just another load of stalls selling more or less the same things. I don't think I would stay here again there are better hotels close by but hopefully they will upgrade asap ohh by the way the breakfast was excellent again served by really helpful friendly staff

Room Tip: Went to tiger kingdom and hugged a tiger ...fantastic experience

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 February 2013

We stayed at the Suriwongse Hotel for three nights from February 17 to 19. This was part of a trip with family members that we were making around Thailand. We are part time residents of Thailand.

First the positive points. We stayed in a remodeled room which was clean and modern. Looked just like the picture on the Trip Advisor site. The bathroom was spacious, clean and up to date. Staff at all times was very polite and helpful including check in, check out, in the dining room and the van service to the airport. They went out of their way to assist us.

Location is right in the midst of the night market so it is easy to get out and shop. The breakfast buffet was fine with ample variety.

The concerns are that their is no swimming pool. At the price we were paying (3000 B. a night) we expected a swimming pool. The staff did offer van service to another hotel with a pool but that is just not convenient.

Secondly we believe there may be a problems with guests smoking in the hotel. Although we did not smell cigarette smoke in our room it sure was obvious in the hall, even after hall carpet cleaning was done while we were there. Another point is that even though we stayed in a remodeled room there were not enough towel racks in the bathroom, a very easy deficiency to correct. Finally there was no view from our room, rather we looked out on another building.

In summary we would not stay there again because we believe in this price range there are better values in the downtown Chiang Mai area.

Room Tip: If swimming is important to you make sure you check on the status of the swimming pool. Similiarly i...
