A really beautiful resort hotel. Impeccable service. In a secluded, private, quiet location. Stayed in a 2 storey villa with a private pool overlooking a padi field. Very restful and great place to rejuvenate.
Excellent restaurants - Thai and Chinese and Room Service brilliant. Had to call the doctor in 1 day, received excellent support and service. Strongly recommend! The best place in Chiang Mai.

I stayed in Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi last week for three nights with an old friend with whom I travel a lot. We leave husbands, children and grandchildren behind, and we try to profit what life still has to give us, and only stay at the best places! We hesitated between this hotel and the Four Seasons, but being this one closer to the airport (on the day we left, we had to catch an early flight to Puhket, going to Six Senses Yao Noi) and also being a fantastic replica of a real northern Thai village, we chose Mandarin Oriental. Anyway, we always stay at the Oriental in Bangkok, so it felt like home. After being picked up at the airport by a Mercedes from the hotel we drove for just 15 minutes and entered this fantastic retreat! Quick check-in, and brought to our villa #5. We had booked a deluxe villa and were upgraded to a deluxe villa with outdoor jaccuzi. 250sqm of house, it was huge and marvellous! Downstairs big living room with a piano! kitchen, powder room, steam room and great outdoor area with the jacuzzi which you could close around for privacy. Upstairs we had the bedroom with 2 big twin beds, very, very confortable, marvellous pillows, fantastic bathroom, big veranda and had also an office, which we did not use of course!!!Were on holidays, but nice touch for businessmen travelling with their wives! The only not, was that the stairs to go from one floor to the other were outside, no connection from the inside, which was a bit of a nonsense, had to get dressed to come down because we had literally to go out of the villa, and we had to call each other through the phone if one was upstairs and the other down. Not very practical, but it is maybe because it is the way a northern Thai house is built. As we were so tired, because we flew direct Lisbon/ Frankfurt/Bangkok/ Chiang Mai, we sunk into the jacuzzi and had something to eat from room service. Breakfast were great with indoor and outdoor seating, with all you can imagine! Beautiful area also around the colonial building and pool. We used the smaller pool closer to our villa which was great, good service and had some snacks by the pool. Had 2 tours organized by the hotel, half day to temples, 1full day to National Park 2 hours away, brought picnic from the hotel. The tours were ok, nothing extraordinary, we expected to see more local life, not so many buildings. National Park was beautiful, highest mountain in Thailand, more than 2500 meters high, but it was foggy, and not the best time to see the birds and flowers. As I have been to Bhutan already, it is difficult to be impressed anymore...We could not go to the night market in Chiang Mai because it was raining so much. Had great diner one night at the Chinese restaurant near the shopping village at the entrance of the resort. The shops at this shopping village are nice but nothing extraordinary, could have more local artifacts, like the things done by the hill tribes which are beautiful! The hotel boutique was beautiful, as was the shop next door, very chic, looked like Hermés. On departure, quick check-out, beautiful limousine back to airport. Overall a great, great hotel!!!!

Room Tip: the villas are fantastic, but if you don´t want to spend that much money, the colonial suites are sm...

As it says in the title, this is our third stay here in 3 years, which I think says it all about what we think of the hotel.

The hotel is set in a very large area, with a good mixture of trees, paddy fields and more formal type gardens around the lobby. From talking to the staff (most of whom have been here since our first visit and have always greeted us by name), the hotel was built around an original amphitheatre and a great deal of effort has gone into making it feel like a great deal older than it actually is. There is a kind of 5 star 'Indiana Jones' feel to the place, which we haven't found anywhere else. However, it does mean that sometimes the distances between amenities are greater than at other hotels and some of the paving is a bit uneven. The hotel provides golf buggies if this is an issue, so it shouldn't be a problem. I would suggest though that if you do have any mobility issues that you stay in the colonial suites rather the villas as the villa's bedrooms are all on the second floor with only stairs access.

The staff are very friendly and attentive. If you do come here, make sure you take advantage of the spa, which is quite well known (tip-ask for a steamroom/jacuzzi before your massage, it's free and is a really good way to start the whole experience).

The hotels restaurants are well worth a visit, but do be aware that their flagship French restaurant is pricier than the Chinese and Thai (it's well worth it, as a great deal of effort obviously goes onto the food, winelist etc. but expect to pay what you would for high end food at home).

Other than that, the gym is fine for a resort Hotel with the usual assortment of cardio and weights machines.

We will certainly be back next year. There's so much to do here in Chiang mai and it's certainly the best hotel we've ever stayed at.

Here is a very friendly environment, all staff are helpful and willing to assist.
Mandarin Oriental is really professional in training staff, every places we stay
we did not experience one staff who shows their personal emotion to the guests.
The design of construction has lots of local culture with its own innovation. The place
is huge with details. They are very generous in guest supply and amenities, make sure
the guests are well pampered. Most of the international hotel chains are counting the soaps
and paper, it is a real shame. You will realise lots of other resorts ape the ideas of this place.
Thai restaurant is really working well, it is full every day. we shall be back.
