stayed at colonial suites and was totally mesmerized by the beauty of the resort. you can easily spend 2 days just enjoying the resort, having meals at the different restaurants in the resort and the various activities the resort offers like padi plantation tour which is within resort premises.,
you should definitely have the high tea there and take the breakfast out on the terrace of the restaurant, enjoying the lake view. the service is great and staff is really friendly.

the only thing that the hotel management can do is to improve the quality of the toiletries that are kept in the bathrooms

when you check in you are driven to the room in a golf cart and you can call for one if y

If you are in Chiang Mai, do not miss out on the newly furbished Dhara Devi Hotel.

This luxe property is currently run by the owners and has made a substantial turn now that it no longer runs under the MO banner.

This has allowed the creative team to experiment with a whole new vision in the food and beverage context. The French restaurant Farang Ses boasts a Michelin star chef. There is an exceptional patisserie and new concepts have been successfully developed, which allow locals and visitors to sample delicious savories at the brand new tea salon.

A new Chinese chef has been brought in and the Thai restaurant serves an eclectic menu and many clever cocktails especially the Tom Yum Martini which is wickedly addictive.

For those who can afford the villas and colonial suites, unsurpassable hospitality awaits you but the highlight of this palace is the magical Horn Bar with genuine antiques and the lofty grounds with its magnificent trees.

Dhara Dhevi is like top 5 star hotels. You have the best rooms, the best restaurants, the best spa and fitness, etc but here you have as well the most beautiful place I have seen. The areas surrounding most of the villas are difficult to describe. It is like being in a movie.

Loved this gorgeous hotel. Always went for afternoon tea at the colonial style tearoom with white wicker furniture and windows overlooking the quiet sunshaded courtyard. Did the same this after the hotel reverted to its original owner. I was disappointed that the Mariage Freres teas were no longer served, instead I asked for a pot of loose leaf Earl Grey tea on the menu. I was first given a pot with a teabag in it. The tea had none of bergamot fragrance. I told the waitress who changed it for me. But the taste of it was no better. For the price it charged for a pot of tea, there is no excuse for serving such bad tea. Maybe the new management wanted to cut costs, or assume that the clients it now attracted couldn't tell the difference. What were they thinking? How much could they possibly save at the expense of quality in their iconic tearoom? My guest ordered caffe latte which was no better. What saved the afternoon was the cakes. We ordered butter cake, pineapple and ginger pie, and chocolate muffin, all up their previous standards.

DharaDheviChiangMai, General Manager at The Dhara Dhevi Chiang Mai, responded to this reviewResponded 20 January 2014

Dear Thirdeye99,

It was our pleasure to welcome you back to the resort and thank you very much for taking your time to write this review, we really appreciate it. Unfortunately the Mariage Freres tea was discontinued due to the management agreement being terminated, it had nothing to do with cost savings. There has never been any intention of cutting costs on the quality of products or standard of service provided at the hotel even under the new management. Please rest assure that we always strive to serve the best to our guests and we sincerely apologize that the taste of our current tea did not meet your expectations.

We hope that if you consider returning to Chiang Mai, you will give us an opportunity to welcoming you back to the resort and to assist you with your preferences for a more refreshing stay.

Kind regards,

Andrew Quinlan
General Manager

We stayed as a family at the Dhara Dhevi over New Year and it was on of the most special experience! The resort is spread of 60 acres lush tropical greenery; the resort was designed in tribute to the architecture of Lanna and acknowledges its stunning natural surroundings.

Since 31th of August Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group no longer manages the Dhara Dhevi resort in Chiang Mai and when we booke we were not sure about it, but no worries the resort is faultless! Just let me tell you what we loved and what you should know before you decide to book the hotel:

What we loved:

Service, service, service: Just dial zero and all your wishes will be fullfilled

Golf buggies drive you everywhere around in the resort

This ancient palace-like resort is the perfect venue for a unique wedding day

The Dheva Spa a replica of an original Burmese template in Mandalay, Myanmar offering a huge selection of health treatments and is an absolute must

We loved our C1 Colonial Suite located at the main pool!

Peaceful Luxury Resort for families & couples

The Macaron Factory & Cake shop

Le Grand Lanna restaurant offers delicious Classic & Northern Thai cuisine & French restaurant Farang Ses offers delicious French cuisine; ask for a table outside overlooking the rice fields

What to know:

In December and January it can get cold in the evenings, make sure to get a jumper

Wifi is slow and not too stable

There is a Children’s club starting at 4years

The 2 separate Swimming pools are not heated, which means they can be too cold for swimming

Would we recommend the hotel? Yes, it is a once in a lifetime experience for the whole family with outstanding service

Room Tip: Room tip: get a Colonial Suite on the ground floor or a Grand Deluxe Villa with Plunge Pool with view over the rice fields
