It is our first time at the Chedi Chiang Mai, it is a hotel I would describe as out of this world. The service is fantastic and every member of staff always made us feel comfortable/well looked after simply by being helpful, informative and friendly whilst keeping a distance so they weren’t constantly giving us the feeling of intrusion. Nothing was ever too much for them to do for us and what was great was that you never get the impression or inkling the staff were being lovely because they wanted tips.
The brilliance of this hotel starts right from arriving into the Chiang Mai airport (29th May 2013) where we were greeted with two members of staff (greeter and driver). Our greeter was well groomed and was extremely smiley. He knew who we were (indicating organisation and good communication within the hotel departments) and swiftly took us to our car where we were welcomed by the driver, cold towels and chilled water. They would check to see if the air conditioning was to our liking and if we were comfortable before embarking on our journey to the Chedi. (This is just one of the examples of attention to detail!).
When we arrived, the staff already knew who we were so we didn’t even introduce ourselves to get some attention. (Once again, the Chedi demonstrates efficiency... we were very impressed at this point and it has been less than an hour of arriving!). The lady checked us in and first showed us to the Chedi club lounge where we were offered a lovely cold drink and towels. Paper work was swiftly sorted and then shown to our room which was on the top floor.
The room was breathtaking! It has a modern and wonderfully open design with lots of space and different areas where guests can relax. The decor is simple yet so effective in creating the ‘wow’ reaction. You can see all the attention to detail and it is very clear the housekeeping staff takes pride in their work. The views are stunning and it is so peaceful! (It is worth noting that it was not peak season... I think only 20 something rooms were being occupied at the time).
Everything is clean and well maintained here. It is faultless!!
We were informed we have the option of dining in the club lounge or in the main restaurant which is in an old British consulate building. Now, where do I start with the food? It is fresh, beautifully prepared and presented, amazingly delicious and always impressed. The criticism (which isn’t really one) was that the food was so good it always caused major overeating!! The executive chef and his team are fantastic – they were extremely friendly and they always look so happy to be at work! Consistency is so important and they certainly delivered. Absolutely LOVED how the chefs were happy to pose for one of my photos... brings a happy feeling just reminiscing the little moment!
Other services which were offered to us was the organisation of activities. This could be done in the comfort of the club lounge (along with some delicious drinks and refreshments! Trust me, you can’t go hungry here!). We were shown the variety of things to do and we selected elephant training/trek, city and temple tour, tour of Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. This was all confirmed and sorted within 15-20 minutes which was brilliant because it gave us more time to chill out before heading out of our oasis for the rest of the day!
We didn’t have the time to fit in some spa treatments or the use of the gym facilities so we cannot comment on this but the building looked pretty and well kept which always reassuring of the quality of the place! There was a problem with the pool ( I think it was something to do with maintenance) but we were quickly informed that if we did want to go for a swim, we can let them know and the hotel will swiftly have a car for us to take us to the Shangri La hotel pool and transport will be arranged for journey back as well. Yet again, excellent service!
The 5days and 4 nights flew by and we were dreading the day we had to check out and leave! GHM group needs to give the hotel recognition of excellence; it has been your amazing marketing and sales machine! It has certainly made us look into all your other hotels and very much looking forward to the new one opening in Switzerland and (in 2015) Hokkaido!!
The Chedi Chiang Mai...WE MISS YOU! We are definitely recommending you to our friends and family and we are definitely coming back. You have been amazing and despite having only stayed there a sort while, you have gave us something wonderful – beautiful and happy memories.
