It is our first time at the Chedi Chiang Mai, it is a hotel I would describe as out of this world. The service is fantastic and every member of staff always made us feel comfortable/well looked after simply by being helpful, informative and friendly whilst keeping a distance so they weren’t constantly giving us the feeling of intrusion. Nothing was ever too much for them to do for us and what was great was that you never get the impression or inkling the staff were being lovely because they wanted tips.

The brilliance of this hotel starts right from arriving into the Chiang Mai airport (29th May 2013) where we were greeted with two members of staff (greeter and driver). Our greeter was well groomed and was extremely smiley. He knew who we were (indicating organisation and good communication within the hotel departments) and swiftly took us to our car where we were welcomed by the driver, cold towels and chilled water. They would check to see if the air conditioning was to our liking and if we were comfortable before embarking on our journey to the Chedi. (This is just one of the examples of attention to detail!).

When we arrived, the staff already knew who we were so we didn’t even introduce ourselves to get some attention. (Once again, the Chedi demonstrates efficiency... we were very impressed at this point and it has been less than an hour of arriving!). The lady checked us in and first showed us to the Chedi club lounge where we were offered a lovely cold drink and towels. Paper work was swiftly sorted and then shown to our room which was on the top floor.

The room was breathtaking! It has a modern and wonderfully open design with lots of space and different areas where guests can relax. The decor is simple yet so effective in creating the ‘wow’ reaction. You can see all the attention to detail and it is very clear the housekeeping staff takes pride in their work. The views are stunning and it is so peaceful! (It is worth noting that it was not peak season... I think only 20 something rooms were being occupied at the time).
Everything is clean and well maintained here. It is faultless!!

We were informed we have the option of dining in the club lounge or in the main restaurant which is in an old British consulate building. Now, where do I start with the food? It is fresh, beautifully prepared and presented, amazingly delicious and always impressed. The criticism (which isn’t really one) was that the food was so good it always caused major overeating!! The executive chef and his team are fantastic – they were extremely friendly and they always look so happy to be at work! Consistency is so important and they certainly delivered. Absolutely LOVED how the chefs were happy to pose for one of my photos... brings a happy feeling just reminiscing the little moment!

Other services which were offered to us was the organisation of activities. This could be done in the comfort of the club lounge (along with some delicious drinks and refreshments! Trust me, you can’t go hungry here!). We were shown the variety of things to do and we selected elephant training/trek, city and temple tour, tour of Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. This was all confirmed and sorted within 15-20 minutes which was brilliant because it gave us more time to chill out before heading out of our oasis for the rest of the day!

We didn’t have the time to fit in some spa treatments or the use of the gym facilities so we cannot comment on this but the building looked pretty and well kept which always reassuring of the quality of the place! There was a problem with the pool ( I think it was something to do with maintenance) but we were quickly informed that if we did want to go for a swim, we can let them know and the hotel will swiftly have a car for us to take us to the Shangri La hotel pool and transport will be arranged for journey back as well. Yet again, excellent service!

The 5days and 4 nights flew by and we were dreading the day we had to check out and leave! GHM group needs to give the hotel recognition of excellence; it has been your amazing marketing and sales machine! It has certainly made us look into all your other hotels and very much looking forward to the new one opening in Switzerland and (in 2015) Hokkaido!!

The Chedi Chiang Mai...WE MISS YOU! We are definitely recommending you to our friends and family and we are definitely coming back. You have been amazing and despite having only stayed there a sort while, you have gave us something wonderful – beautiful and happy memories.

The service at Chedi is top notch, the property and rooms are beautiful, and the included breakfast was fantastic. There isn't much more I can say that is not already written in everyone else's reviews. This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in, and for the price, this is the best value. We couldn't believe how nice this place was for the money. I picked the Chedi based solely on the Tripadvisor reviews, and found they were 100% accurate. Many thanks to the staff at Chedi for making our stay quite memorable. If I ever travel back to Chiang Mai I will not stay anywhere else.

Fantastic hotel located on the Mae Ping River at the site of the former British Consulate. The hotel has a good location and is a short walk to the night bazaar. It is a bit of a walk to the old town, however there are a number of taxis and tuk tuks a couple of blocks away from the hotel's entrance. In the immediate area there are a number of good choices for restaurants and massages. The property itself has a beautiful design with more of a quiet resort feel. Think elegant, tranquil. The staff is truly wonderful and very attentive. For the price we paid we actually thought the property was a great value as well. Highly recommended.

We loved our short stay at the Chedi Chiang Mai. This was our first experience at a Singapore-based GHM brand hotel, and we came away extremely impressed. The architecture and landscaping made the Chedi an idyllic oasis in bustling east Chiang Mai. The rooms are spacious and well appointed, and we found the breakfast buffet (with a large made to order menu) very good and inventive. The staff was exceptionally courteous and helpful. All of this was done without any air of stuffiness or overly formal behavior seen at some high end Asian hotels.

If you stay here, the hotel restaurant is worth a visit. The menu is a bit strangely laid out, but the dishes are creative and top notch at a reasonable cost.

Drawbacks are minimal, but I am providing them to keep the review balanced. The staff's English is passable, but we definitely had to try a couple of times to get our point across on multiple occasions. One should note this is no worse than other international-oriented hotels we've used in Thailand. Also, there is no concierge, so be prepared to vet tour guides and restaurant choices with only directory-like assistance from the front desk.

Finally, one more recommendation. The Club Rate is an exceptional value that gives you airport transfers, 7 pieces of laundry per day, entire minibar complimentary, evening cocktails, and free internet. If you're staying for just a few days, I would highly recommend the upcharge to a club suite.

Room Tip: Club Suites are worth the additional cost

Dear Guest,

You cannot imagine how proud I am as a General Manager to continue reading the fantastic feedback we get from all our guests and this is even more true when it comes to comments about our exceptional staff.

Thank you for your review and also for highlighting some of the drawbacks as this helps us tremendously to determine on which areas we need to focus so that The Chedi Chiang Mai gets even better.

After this first GHM experience we hope that we inspired you for more... if not here in Chiang Mai, maybe in Bali, Vietnam, Oman or our soon to come property The Chedi Andermatt in Switzerland.

Warm regards,

Andy Kunz

I think the Chedi in Chiang Mai might just be my all time fave hotel. On my 3rd visit we stayed in a club suite which gives you not only a beautiful room but also bonuses such as access to the club room and the lovely concierges there, a nightly cocktail hour in the club room and free consumption of the contents of the minibar in your room. As always, the Chedi staff are gracious, helpful and friendly, from the gardeners right through the hierarchy. The gym is well maintained, the grounds are stunning, the pool is great for laps or lazing by and the catering is pretty good too! I have no dobt I will be writing another glowing review after my fourth visit.

We recently spent 3 nights at the Chedi during our visit to Thailand and we had a fabulous time, I just wished we had booked longer. We had gone away for my birthday (which my husband had told them) and upon our arrival had a bottle of Prosseco on ice waiting for us in our room, which was a really nice touch! The hotel and staff were really welcoming and the pool and outside dining area were beautiful, and really serene. Would definitely recommend
