Lanna Palace 2004 Hotel
Ranked #288 of 394 Hotels in Chiang Mai

Clean rooms and regular service, geared toward tour groups, it has all the necessary facilities to describe a landmark 200 bed hotel. Very safe choice for travelers (family and elderly) who seek typical comfort like skyview restaurant, gym, swimming pool, conference facilities, airport transfers (100B, 15 mins).

Rooms are large and neatly furnished but remains chilly despite temp adjustments. Minibar is cheap. Clean and large working bath tub and hot water works great.

What's not so great, is the distance. Although it lies along the Chang Klan main strip, the night bazaar is 20 mins away and almost double that time to walk to the old city. Although there are transport options (50B) but that's not befitting a city that prides itself as a walk-about destination. The neighborhood has no potential sights but provide easy access to convenience stores and cheap restaurants as well as unsavory groups of "karaoke" girls lining some parts of the road.

Staff service is not bad but not complimentary either. Price is cheaper than many hotels closer to the buzz and the hotel exudes an amusing 80's nostalgia.

If you're not in an organized budget tour groups and you want to get closer to the Chiang Mai experience, you are better off at the old city (thapae gate) or at least in the middle of the night market (Kalare, Anusarn etc).

Room Tip: Get rooms above 7 floors with the mountain view or risk facing the creepy looking hospital on your w...

Lanna Palace 2004 hotel is located in the heart of Chiang Mai, and a few streets from the night market. It is a typical tourist hotel. While the rooms were generous in size, beds comfortable and room was clean, TV, fridge and complimentary bottles of water each day, there were several things missing from the room. Such as coffee maker, hair dryer, safe and heater. As we were in Chiang Mai in December, the night temperature dropped to 9 degrees C and we were freezing without a heater, resulting in sleepless nights.

WiFi is only available in the lobby and the breakfast buffet was almost the same each day and pretty limited in choice.

While the famous Chiang Mai night market is a few hundred meters away, there is a free shuttle from the hotel one way at 7 and 8 pm. Do arrange with the front desk to secure a set on the shuttle. A trip back from the night market to the hotel will put you back about Baht 20 (USD 0.61) per person, using the truck-taxi.

Overall, an enjoyable stay, except for the lack of heater in winter.

Room Tip: If you need a double bed, please request at the reception. They will push two single beds together a...

Stayed at the ambitiously-named Lanna Palace (more of a place than a palace really) over Loy Kratong. At the time of booking all my preferred hotels were full, so I chose this one. Seeing it was an older tower block (used by many tour groups) my expectations were low, however it was better than expected overall.
Didn't get a great welcome on arrival and they were not busy but they were rather slow and unsmiling at reception (the doorman/concierge gave a good welcome. When I got to the room I realised they had ignored my request for a double bed (maybe they had none but it would be nice to be told). Went up to the 11th floor in the rather small lift. The room was quite spacious and had plenty of storage space, a safe, tea/coffee making,a fridge, thick carpet & curtains, white clean bathroom (shower over bath only) and furnishings looked newish (not shabby), so had been renovated at some point. There was no balcony and the view was unattractive. The only bad points were the ancient TV with terrible audio and reception, the poor dispersion of water flow from the shower head (needed replacing) which flooded the room whenever you showered and some of the sheets were a bit holey. Otherwise a very comfortable room. Also the corridors outside were wide and thickly carpeted so the rooms remained very quiet, even when the shouting chinese tourists were wandering down the corrridors or slamming doors!
The hotel has a small pool but and it did look very clean. The only problem was that they only had 2 lounges out by the pool so there was nowhere to sit and relax. The hotel breakfast would have been quite good if they had consistency of supply. They had fried and boiled eggs, processed ham&sausage (no bacon), tomato, potato & french toast, a good selection of asian food, cereal and yoghurt, fruit, bread etc. The first morning there was hardly any food left and they took and age to bring more, the second morning I did not even get an egg (no more came out in the 20-30 mins we were there). The third morning was good and we even got a croissant, the fourth morning, no yoghurt. Not sure if they need more staff or better planning.
The hotel is not in a particularly attractive neighbourhood but it is only a 10-15 minute walk to the night market. There is a sleazy "karaoke" bar straight across the road and another couple down the road (which you must walk past if you walk to the market but it doesn't feel unsafe). The hotel does provide a free shuttle to the market at 7 & 8pm only. Nearby there is a small shopping centre (with 7/11) a few local restaurants and massage places (non-dubious ones) so the location is not too bad. It is about a 10 minute drive to the old city.
On departure they receptionist was quite efficient and when I asked for a taxi to the airport the concierge quickly arranged the hotel shuttle to take me (for B100, very reasonable). He didn't complain although clearly I should have booked-excellent service really.
Overall I would like to give this hotel 3.5 stars, but not quite a 4. It is not a bad choice really and I would probably stay again.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the higher floors to avoid potential street noise.

Stayed at this hotel for three days this November 2013. Service staff were excellent. But once again the rooms were dated. Even though breakfast was not included in the stay, no one asked us for money.
Distance of the hotel from the Night Bazar was about 10-15 minutes walk. The walk was quite entertaining past a few interesting bars... so to speak.
Over all, not a bad place to stay for the price

I stayed there for 2nights. The worst things is lost my brand new glssses which i bought from bangkok. Manager could not solve the problem & said some of the customers, they lost their stuff as well. So,that's means he used to it. But he can't do nothing for me. & they don't have CCTV in the lounge area & ailse as well. That' not safe for the peoples. I have been stayed 4 hotes when i was in thailand & this one's worst & unsafe & unworthy hotels i've been..
