“Excellent Hotel, Great Location”
Reviewed 13 February 2011

We stayed at the Dusit D2 for 3 nights as the second stop on our honeymoon.

On our arrival at the hotel we were given a warm welcome by the staff and a welcome drink while they were checking us in. We were then shown to our room which was clean and comfortable. Little gifts were left every morning and fortune cookies were put on our pillows every night.

The location of the hotel is great as it is round the corner from the nightmarket and it is quite central so it is easy to walk to the various places in Chiang Mai.

On the first evening we went to the Riverside restaurant (which was recommended to us). It was about 10 minutes walk and it was in the perfect location by the river. The food and service was wonderful and we would have returned only they were fully booked on our second evening and the following day we went on a Thai Cookery course so we had eaten plenty throughout the day.

Chiang Mai is a lovely city with plenty to see and do but without the hustle and bustle of Bangkok and I would definately recommend a visit and the Dusit D2 is the perfect hotel. The staff were helpful and friendly and couldn't do enough to make your stay perfect. On the first night we went back to the room to find a plate of fruit with "Happy Honeymoon" written on the plate which was a lovely touch.

I would recommend the hotel for both the location and the fact it is comfortable with wonderful staff.

The Dusit D2 Chiang Mai was chosen due to it's location. We loved it. You are served a juice is a funky round bottomed glass, and treated with great politeness, like most of Thailand. The rooms were very nice, very clean and that way every day.

Pool area not overly large, but well kept and private.

Breakfast couldn't be faulted.

Were nice hotel with a very modern, simple clean design.
Located right at the night market but a little away from the old city/center (10min walk).
The hotel has a nice gym and a nice pool (rather cold however) as well as a sun deck which only has sun part of the day due to the layout of the hotel.
We got a nice deal and paid 133USD pr. night without breakfast which is good value - escpecially because there is a lot of cheap breakfast places around the hotel (the breakfast at the hotel is great but rather expensive compared to Thailand).
Rooms are not so big but very nice and we prefere a smaller room of higher standard than the other way around.

Ultra modern and reasonable prices by U.S. standards. Staff were friendly and helpful with making restaurant reservations and hailing tuk-tuk's as we do not speak Thai. Would definitely stay here again.

Stayed three nights at D2 with a friend. From the fruity cocktail upon check-in to the choreographed welcoming dance number (a bit overwhelming, but cute nonetheless) to the daily gifts packaged in clear plastic boxes, the hotel and their staff never ceased to surprise and amaze. The staff, from the front desk to the cleaning ladies, were so kind and friendly that you couldn't help but smile . They really gave a great first impression of how wonderful the Thai people can be.

The hotel itself was nice, very modern and trendy. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and very up-to-date as well. The staff were kind enough to upgrade us to a suite after informing us that a room with two beds would be unavailable (we were two guys traveling together). They were also very accommodating to our request for an extra bed, which was brought up almost immediately after we got to our room. The food, from breakfast to room service, was great as well, some of the best we had in Thailand. The hotel bar was nice, though not the happening scene some of the guidebooks would have you believe. The surrounding neighborhood is nice as well, adjacent to the night market and walking distance to the old city and nightlife areas. The only warning I would give is that there is a strip club across the street from the hotel, and some sort of creepy bar next door with lots of younger boys and older men hanging out. However, nobody bothered us, and if that's not your scene it is easy to steer clear of it.

Again, I cannot say enough about how enjoyable our stay here was, in no small part due to the amazing staff at D2. I would highly recommend this hotel and hope to one day return myself.

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights in Jan on our first visit to Chaing Mai. The hotel itself is very modern, many friendly helpful staff, decent breakfast, ate once in the restaurant which was good but expensive compared to local area. It also has a very fancy gym. Only one downside was the pool - it was so cold it was unusable which was a shame as the weather was very nice. The location is beside the famed "nightmarket" but that only takes a couple of hours to look around so no big plus to be right beside it. All in all we would recommend the hotel for a short stay. Chaing Mai itself is a very interesting city, most of the tourist trips go straight out of town but there is much to explore on foot on your doorstep. Look out for Nancy Chandlers map of Chaing Mai - we found it really imformative. Also we recommend the river trip which is only 250 baht if you go directly to the boats. And airport transfers - save a fortune by not pre-booking, its easy to get a cab in the airport for 150 baht only. If you are travelling around Thailand and intend to buy any local products we found Chaing Mai to be the cheapest area we visited - so buy there!

The LCD is the smallest one I ever seen among the recent hotels in Thailand. Compared with other boutuqiue hotels in Chiang Mai like B hotel and etc., the room is very small with limited facilities, NO IPOD dock or even stereo. Becuse of high price, I expect something more.
