South of the old town (3 minutes walk), traditional hotel. Quite large, clean rooms, good bedding. Friendly and helpful staff. Pool at the rear of the hotel, just on the other side of the wall, a garden with lots of chicken, so early in the morning are the roosters wake you up.

I was at the Gate a few years ago .Not much has changed. It is starting to date a little but it was safe and generally quiet and the staff were willing to help..They are a little negotiable with there prices if you upgrade and stay longer.Breakfast is included ,which was better quality than other places I have stayed at in this price range.Good pool. Also a good location.Around the corner from walking street and the Old City. Not so hectic as in the Night Market area. Not so far from the airport also.

Very nice small hotel in great area out of the tourist area and perfect location for exploring the Old City....friendly and courteous staff. I recommend the Deluxe rooms, which although small are the most recently renovated. Great area around the pool and on the veranda to chill out or just meet friends. We stayed here for the whole summer a couple of years ago....If you want to meet and interact with Thai culture this is the neighborhood!

Room Tip: Select Deluxe rooms...most recently renovated

In a very good location and has a good travel service. Rooms are very average, bathrooms very small. We had stayed here before so knew what to expect. Staff very friendly and helpful, although we did have a problem with being double billed which they to date have not sorted out. Breakfast is typical Thai but comes with the room and was ok. Pool is nice and clean. Rooms are very noisy lots of door slamming late at night.

This hotel is in our opinion a good starting point for exploring the Old City and the Sunday market in Chiang Mai. These are on walking distance from the hotel max. 10min to reach. For a visit to the night market one has to rely on a taxi or tuk tuk.
