“Our first NYE experience in Chiang Mai”
Reviewed 27 March 2014

This was our second stay at the Raming Lodge. We stayed 4 nights. Everything went smoothly, the rooms were very clean ,bed very comfortable. We paid 800baht a head for the New Years Eve dinner and show, which finished around 9pm. All guests were invited to the back road entrance to release lanterns . We walked to the end of the road where the moat area was awash with people and lanterns. Come midnight, outside the Raming Lodge the road was busy with people and the sky was lit up by many colourful fireworks. Chiang Mai was cold and we did need to buy happy pants, jackets and scarfs especially for the mornings.

Stayed for 3 nights in December 2013. Paid the extra for the hotel's taxi service. The flight was delayed by an hour. On arrival at the airport the poor chap seemed unfazed by the delay and generally happy to see a new guest. First impressions count and a good one at that.

A seemingly short trip and it is not long before I'm checking into my Superior Double room. It was on offer at the time so I thought why not. I expected a big bed but not this big. Wow. Room and bathroom were very clean. Bed and mattress were extremely comfy and the wifi worked in my room without any problems.

The hotel is situated on one of the main roads with nightlife. Free coffee to help wake me up in the morning. Considering my room was only 2 doors away from the street, the surprise was that the noise was more apparent in the morning from the routine of supplying breakfast 2 floors down.

There is not really anything to moan or complain about I enjoyed my stay there and will stay again.

Room Tip: Higher floors won't be affected by the noise from breakfast diners.

This hotel was decent. When we arrived we had to kill about 20 mosquitos that were in the room and have our sheets changed as they were dirty. They quickly came and changed them which was greatly appreciated. The towels and sheets are a bit old as they have some stains but seemed clean. The room was good, comfy bed great location. It was nice that they had breakfast included. The room we stayed in had a connecting door to the room next door that was not soundproof at all. We heard every little noise from our neighbors down to the rustling of a plastic bag. Luckily they weren't too loud.
The staff were exceptional. They were very helpful and pleasant.

Perfect hotel for exploring the old city, night markets or just Chiang Mai in general. Hotel staff polite and helpful. Spa was in hotel, a little pricey in comparison to external street side massages but very good and 2 for 1 offers to residents. Centrally located, 5 minute walk to Old City and 5 min walk to night markets. Taxis and buses freely available but this is a city to explore on foot.

We enjoyed most everything about the Raming Lodge from the prompt pick up at the train to the lovely 5th floor room on the quiet side of the building. Our room was spacious and nicely appointed. Our large windows let in fresh air in the morning, but sadly, a very bright yard light at night. The bath was great with a big shower, clothes line and face cloths. The breakfast was plentiful and fresh with a long serving time and indoor or outdoor dining; the mornings were a bit cool in February. Late in the day, the pool is a welcome spot for relaxation. The hotel is ideally located between the Old City and the night market. Restaurants, spas and shopping are available in a wide variety. Tuk tuks are always near the Loi Kro entrance, and we found an excellent actual Toyota sedan taxi through a friendly tuk tuk driver. Other taxis tend to be open backed pick up trucks. Our only real disappointment was the tour desk. We booked a tour to Doi Su Tep, which crammed in a visit to a "hill tribe" which was really a shopping trap. We spent so much time trying to get out of the traffic jam there that our time at the temple was very rushed. We also booked our travel to Chiang Khong through them, and the trip was hideous...an hour late starting, a reckless driver and jam packed mini van and three hours longer than we were quoted. Arrange your travel with someone else and know what the travel vehicle will really be. The front desk personnel varied from very friendly and knowledgeable to cranky when we accidentally left our key in the room. Overall an excellent hotel with all the amenities you could want. We also appreciated that the outlets remained live so we could charge devices when we were not in the room. Only the A/C went off when the key was removed. Nice.

Room Tip: We loved our room 501, which had great light and lovely breezes.

My family has stayed here 3 or 4 times now. We love it, the staff are friendly and helpful. (Accept one man at the tour desk, pretty rude) The rooms are really comfortable and you can get a really great BBQ dinner out the front.
About a 10-20 min walk to the Night markets, theres a 7/11 really close and even a nice pool.
Chiang Mai is a fantastic place to go to, and I always love staying here.

Room Tip: Higher floors are as good as the lowers.

Stayed at Raming Lodge for 3 nights in March 2014. For £33 a night great value. Some reviews are saying its a new hotel, I would say its having a 'face lift'. Parts of the hotel is having work done to it. Rooms are great massive beds bits do look abit worn but for the money great value. Yes at the minute there is building work being done but they start at 9am so majority of people here are either on trips or sunbathing anyway so don't bother me.
TIP: If you book a Deluxe room or higher you get a free mini bar in te room (water and Pepsi) AND free airport shuttles-pickup and drop off so great value.
Breakfast selection was good.
Just bare in mind that Thailand attract single men aged 55-60 who desire to meet Thai women. It happens all over thailand as I have seen and Chian Mai is no different and bars around this hotel are also the same so don't be shocked which I know some reviewers have been.
All in all good hotel.
Visit the Elephant Nature Park, a great sanctuary for injured and poorly treated elephants that have had years of abuse.
