“Excellent value for money in a great location”
Reviewed 15 February 2009

We stayed for 3 nights in a deluxe room. The price inlucded airport transfers, free mini bar and a B900 per night spa voucher.

We were met at Chiang Mai airport by a very friendly driver who got us and our bags to the hotel in about 15 minutes. Check in was swift and we were shown to two adjacent double rooms on the 5th floor.

The rooms were large and spacious with a good sized bathroom, and were very clean. Due to the location of the hotel the rooms were a bit noisy at night but we found that if the air con was on this drowned out any outside noise anyway.

The hotel is in an excellent location, about a 5 minute walk from both the old town and the night bizarre. There were lots of bars and restaurants close by to the hotel but there are a few 'girly' bars if you turn right out of the hotel. However, you were not given any hassle walking past and apart from a bit of noise late at night they weren't really an issue.

The hotel has a nice pool which is just out the back of the hotel and is a great spot to relax after spending the day sightseeing.
Breakfast at the hotel is so, so but in the evening the restaurant does excellent food.

We made sure that we used our spa vouchers that were included with the room and the spa is excellent. It's positioned on the top floor of the hotel with a number of private treatment rooms. Both the aromatherapy massage and the foot reflexology were excellent. Yes you can find cheaper places outside of the hotel but it is very good quality and if you have any vouchers make sure you use them.

I have benefited a lot from reading the hotels reviews by fellow travellers , it is only fair that I share my horrible experience of my recent stay in Raming Lodge CM. We arrived at the hotel at 1130am, and was told that we could check in at a later time, we left our luggages at the hotel and went off for sightseeing ang got back at 8pm.
We booked two connecting rooms, non smoking, but one of them was musty and obviously smelled of cigarrette smoke, I requested to change for another room but was told that the hotel's fully booked. I told the customer service staff that I couldn't accept a smoking room. He offered to have the roome spray ed with air freshener or I have to live with it. NO CHOICE. But ,,,in my case, both my son and me are asthmatic, we are allergy to both air freshener and smoke.
With much dissapointment, I tried to settle in that room, because we have fully paid for the room, I think the hotel knew that and gave us the worst rooms. As it was beyond what we could tolerated, I called the reception again, this time it was handled by another staff, she offered me another room, which 2 rooms away from the one we had. OK...this time, at least the room didn't smell bad. We accepted it as we were so tired after a day out. We were thinking, FINALLY.... we get to rest . When I opened the toilet door, there's a village of mosquitoes inside the toilet., at least more than 50. We had to work together to smash, to slap or whatever ways we could thought of to kill this enermy of ours. We gave up after a while as we could never seems to kill all of them.
After shower, we were exausted and longing for a good nite sleep. OOPPPPSSSS...all the pillows are lumpy , out of shape and stinky.....the bed was HARD. The mosquitoes was flying around our ears...oh dear.... why did we deserved this!!!!!

Dear.Sir
We are very sorry & apologize for your horrible
experienc with raminglodge hotel&spa during
your staying at room number 209,211(superior room) on 13-15 Feb,2009 with your family, But we tried to offered you to other and
room number 215 that you accepted.
May be it's possible..// some room was
musty and have smelled of cigarrette smoke
from customers who stayed there before,
But all of our rooms designed & decor
by tiles floor in the room instead of stuffy carpeting , So we belived that it's not so much
musty and smelled like the rooms which carpet's decorated design.
Even though, all reviews from travellers
We are also have benefit for our improvement
& development to be better.
For mosquitoes problem , we try to solved by spray all room when they are finished from cleaning every day & give free repellant to all clients( Actually it's can be happen anywhere for this season in Thailand)
Again, We are very sorry & hope to wellcome all our clients always,

With thanks & Your truly,

Firstly we arrived via overnight train from bangkok, Were met at station by friendly welcoming driver, even though our train arrived over an hour late he was there, name board very clearly displayed, Check in was smooth & pleasant, one of the porters has an amazing sense of humour & is constantly amusing you, if you've stayed here you'll know who i mean, Very happy chap,
The deluxe room is spacious free minibar, massive bed on the firm side, Rooms are quite dark but that is down to design, rooms are cleaned & maintained daily, Free Wifi, we actually have one more night to stay here & have found nothing to complain about, the swimming pool is just across from the hotel, again very good & very clean,Location a 5min walk to the night bazzar, A seven eleven store right next door for any of your requirements, All in All a very pleasant stay I would have no problem recomending this hotel to friend, & would definetley stay again if i came back to Chiang mai, & to top it all Very Very reasonibly priced.

after having great expectations after booking through the inviting website this place was disappointing.Thankfully we only ended up staying here one night due to a booking misunderstanding that I was grateful for in the end! Had 2 interconnectinig rooms I think they were 3rd floor but they were incredibly dark - very tiny window where the outlook was nothing but an airconditioning unit in your face.!
Didnt help that on arrival I went to pick up a bag sticking out from under the bed (thought the kids had dropped something) only to find it was the last occupiers rubbish from their takeaways..YUK. Immediately got them to remove this and I did get an apology but this should not happen.
Location is really great but would not visit again.

As the title says, this is a great place to stay. Modern and includes an elevator and in the room wifi and on the other hand, traditionally friendly. It you choose the deluxe package, a friendly driver will pick you up from the airport.

The hotel also has public access computers in the lobby and a small travel information desk that can help with finding the right trip for you and taking care of reservation and coordination.

Bottom line, recommended.

We stayed four nights in a twin superior room at the Raming Lodge. We were very pleased by this hotel. It is very close to the old city of Chiang mai (a 5 min walk), and also close to the night market. I can't talk about quietness, because we visited Chiang Mai during religious celebrations (Loi Krathong), and fireworks were being shot everywhere in the city all day and all night. The only (small) problem with the location is that at night, the street is full of bars with prostitutes waiting in front of them. It annoyed us a bit at the beginning.
The lobby is nice, with much vegetation. The staff is helpfull, but we had trouble being understood in English, we had to ask several times before people understood (Whereas in Bangkok the staff had a much better english). There is a pool, but we did not visited it. It is outside the Hotel, near the parking lot.
The room was nice, quite large with a large bathroom. It was well furnished, but we asked for a double bed on booking and had to deal with two single beds on arrival becouse the Hotel was full. From the windows we could only see the walls and roofs of the neighbours.
The Raming Lodge has some little drawbacks, which did not bothered us because it was very cheap.

This place used to be excellent value for money, but it is now showing its age. It is still a very nice place to stay. Before moving in, I checked twice the price with the reception. First I was quoted B2,080 a night. Then the next day, I was quoted B2,300, both being "promotional" rates. When I protested the more expensive rate, I was just told, "All right, you can have the cheaper rate." Cons: The room door was flimsy. Hot water took ages to come. There's no view; in fact there was hardly a real window -- only a small space outside to place the air-con compressor, which was full of pigeon dung. Pros: A very nice new swimming pool was built away from the hotel. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Breakfast has improved over the years, with a wide variety of dishes. Free snacks and drinks in room.
