Raming Lodge Hotel & Spa
Ranked #58 of 389 Hotels in Chiang Mai
Reviewed 20 August 2010

Raming Lodge (and the guide Sipohn of Untouched Thailand, reviewed separately) made our Chiang Mai sojourn memorable and quite wonderful. This middle-sized, mid-range hotel is just right. Being a family of four, with twin teenagers in tow, we 'splurged' on the Royal Suite, paying a sum equivalent to a regular double room in a more upscale hotel.

We got far more than we bargained for: extremely friendly service from the airport pickup to the laid back pool bar, a two-bedroom top floor suite with a spacious living room, two huge bathtubs, a scenic balcony facing the old city and Doi Suthep, beautiful Thai furniture and art, free breakfast, dinner and spa vouchers. What else could one wish?

Well, location, of course. As others have noted, this is a winner. If you are around on a Sunday, don't miss the wonderful market on and around Thapae Gate. The other direction will take you to the famous night market, and you might chance upon an elephant down the street.

The hotel breakfast is adequate, the free dinner was so-so, but the whole experience is very gratifying. The hotel swimming pool, across the little lane at the back, has a relaxing aura and a decently priced bar menu. Cocktails are tasty. For lunch or dinner, head for Aroon Rai, five minutes away, and enjoy its cheap delicacies (green curry and chicken with cashew nuts from heaven).

There is a lovely spa, upstairs, Supaya, under separate ownership. Check out the hotel discount vouchers. We took several spa treatments, all very good, especially the head, back and shoulders massage.

What a good place to return to, after a trek to the mountains! Highly recommended.

A great place to stay in Chiang Mai. The location is perfect; it is just a few blocks away from the night market and very close to the ‘old city’. There are many restaurants and pubs near the hotel as well. There is also a laundry service just down the road from the entrance to the pool that is very reasonable.

You get a lot more for the price than you would at many other places. For about $50 CAD/night we got an air conditioned room with a king sized bed, free wifi, and a buffet breakfast (not large, but more than adequate). The pool area is small but serves its purpose, and I don’t recommend ordering food & drinks there as it is quite expensive.

The rooms are quite large and relatively new compared to similarly priced accommodations. The staff were also very helpful.

Great location - between the night bazar and Sunday market. Nice swimming pool. Friendly and helpful staff. Large, comfortable and clean rooms. Breakfast buffet with a wide selection of foods (our teenagers were highly satisfied with the french toast, cornflakes, and pancakes).
The prices of the travel agency in the lobby are rather high. You can find many cheaper travel agencies in the street near the hotel. The Internet in the lobby is a bit expensive, but you can find cheap Internet and overseas calls in the street near the hotel.
We arrived for 2 nights and stayed 7 nights. Great value for money!!!

We stayed here for one night, staff were very pleasant and helpful. Rooms clean and a good size. We had rooms with an interconnecting door which was useful. The robe and slippers were a fun addition after trecking and sleeping in a hill top village :) The spa was very clean and offered guests a 15min massage for free - which was an added bonus and greatly enjoyed. The swimming pool was just outside the hotel, it was quiet small but fun with a small waterfall at one end. Breakfast was lovely with a mass of choice and freshly cooked omelettes etc, fresh fruit, thai style breakfast, crossaints etc etc - very good. we all enjoyed our time here

Highly recommended hotel, good price, good location (not far from the night market) and the rooms are spacious. They are also quiet. Really enjoyed our stay and would stay again.

Some people are VERY picky if they could find fault with this hotel. Nothing was too much effort for the staff here. We travelled with a 7 and a 10 year old and had no hassles. This hotel is perfectly located one block from the night bazaar and over the road from the old city. The pool was great to cool off in after a long hot day's walking. Breakfast was brilliant but the restaurant had western food which was a shame so we didn't eat there but at one of the great Thai restaurants close by.

overall not a bad hotel but on my 2nd day my shampoo and Shaving Stick were taken from the bathroom (for reasons unknown!). I raised this with Reception who were zero help, then spoke to the so called Manager who just shrugged his shoulders... I am just glad it wasn't valuables that went missing as I would have no chance of retrieving anything back!
