Staff warm and helpful, nothing too much trouble. Good rooms. Complimentary tuktuk to town. The location down small alleyway a little unusual, but once behind the gates you will find a quiet restful oasis away from the hustle bustle of Chang Mai.

This was a wonderful place to stay close to the markets, yet tucked away from the busy streets in the village. Our visit was wonderful and could not have been better. I would recommend to anyone.

For New Years Eve, they had a special dinner with Thai music and dancers. It was great!!

We are checking out today to our regret. This is a gorgeous hotel in a quiet location. The staff is incredibly kind and attentive without being overly so. We attended the New Year gala which was just magical! The rooms are decently sized with comfortable beds and nice bathroom. The morning breakfast included with the room rate is delicious. Someone had commented about a lack of selection for the breakfast, but I disagree. There is a morning Buffet or you can order off the menu. This is not a Ritz, but an incredibly upscale, charming hotel. The location is across the river so expect to pay a bit more for tuk tuks and taxis to the hotel, but the quiet neighborhood is a plus in our book. You can stay in cheaper places, but if you want a stay you will not forget book here. When we come back to Chiang Mai we will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: We stayed on the second floor which was lovely to see the lanterns on New Years Eve.

I have no regrets of my stay but it was really just a so so place with positives and negatives. I had a ground level pool access room (104) which I would not recommend for 2 reasons, it seems the lodging of the staff was right behind here so you could hear them quite a lot mid-afternoon and around 9 pm. Also there are trees in the center of the property so various staff as they couldn't see each because of the trees and bushes would just yell across the courtyard to communicate. While no fault of the hotel there was a near by pile driver pounding 8 hours a day. If you have ever lived or stayed near a pile driver you know what I mean, every second brings another loud bang and the only place on the property you could escape from it was the gym in the basement. I believe that 4-5 star properties should tell you in advance before booking that this is going on. The positives: it's a nice looking property with pretty lighting at night, Breakfast was nice, not great but good. Gym was adequate, mattress and bedding are good quality, the room is a nice size. Front desk staff are helpful and sincere.

Dear Torontoshanghai,

Thank you very much for your stay at Puripunn in December 2013, and I really do appreciate your kind review on TripAdvisor. Per your feedbacks regarding noise of our staffs during operation, I am extremely sorry for this issue. I have already instructed Puripunn staffs to pay carefully attention on using their volume of voices during their operation. Regarding construction noise during your stay, there is a construction site on the next street of which it is tucked away from the main street and we can’t see the site from both streets. We had no prior information about this construction, and there is no one from the construction company giving us an advance notice about their activities. The pile driver that you mentioned about had been operated for 4-5 days, and seem to be finished as we do not hear any construction sound for over a week now. At this stage, please accept our sincere apology for any inconvenient that may cause during your stay.

Torontoshanghai, It had been such an honor for me to meet you personally, and I do hope that I and my team will have a good chance to welcome you back again to see our improvement when you are in Chiang Mai in the future. We wish you a happy new year 2014. All the very best to you and your love one throughout the year and the year to come.

Sincerely Yours,

Att Viravaidhya,

Agreed with all the positive points from the other reviews. Don't expect a Ritz or Four Seasons but certainly what one would expect from a good class boutique hotel and more. Located in a residential area and therefore had a homely feel to the place

Rooms are nicely decorated in a colonial Thai style with many brass fittings. We are on the ground floor and the lush garden setting is well worth the mozzie attacks (they provide incense on the veranda to repel the mozzies and also screen doors). The kids enjoyed the pool despite the cooler weather and they have nice loungers for someone who just wants to read a book.

Service is top class and the breakfast... I was conditioned to help myself at most hotel buffet counters but here it's plated and served. You can also order from a selection in the menu. The owner of the hotel even come out to mingle with the hotel guests - nice touch!

Tuk tuks normally asked for 80-100 baht 1 way to get to the night bazaar but the hotel's luxurious version of the tuk tuk will send you there for free at certain times. Alternatively, it's a leisurely 15 mins walk if you can find the way.

Basically, you turn left coming out of hotel, and there's a back lane on the right that will take you to the main road (next to a home fix shop). From there, turn right and head across the river and the night bazaar is a block from the river on your left.

We did our laundry (after 8 days of travel) at a shop opposite Chiang Mai Plaza hotel (near night bazaar) for 50 baht a kilo and went home with neatly folded fresh laundry in our suit case!

Overall a very pleasant stay at Puripunn and would recommend anyone there.

When we first arrived at the Puripunn we did wonder how a nice hotel could possibly exist off a busy street and down a rather narrow nondescript lane. How wrong we were! It's a real jewel in a city that, overall, left us somewhat underwhelmed. It exudes an aura of calm in a rather old-fashioned way. The rooms were functional. We didn't use the pool but it was set in attractive surroundings and seemed like a good spot in which to relax. What really set the hotel apart for us was the warmth and attentiveness of the staff. Nothing was too much trouble - even rather cheeky requests from one of my fellow travellers to keep him supplied with cigarettes (which required a round trip on a moped). The food was also very good with breakfasts a particular highlight for us. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for some old world charm and doesn't need all the facilities offered by the traditionl 5 star hotel.
