“A great find!”
Reviewed 22 July 2011

Lanna Mantra is worth the extra $$ and time to get to. As other reviewers have noted, it is not within walking distance to the Old City. However, it makes for a peaceful, relaxing spot away from the city center. You can get into Chiang Mai with the 10:30am shuttle or 6:00pm shuttle. From previous reviews, the 10:30 shuttle was via boat. However, for the 3 nights we were at Lanna Mantra, both the morning and evening shuttle were via a songtaew (shared truck). Upon arrival, we were told the 10:30 shuttle wasn't running, but in the morning we found it, in fact, was. Not a big deal as the information was simply lost in translation.

We booked on Agoda (only paid $47 a night in off seasons) and because of that, I wasn't surprised that we were placed in the building facing the pond/restaurant. Still a great room, but it didn't face the river like the other 3 buildings do.

Room comfort was excellent. Ground were in great condition and pool was an added bonus. Highly recommend this property, but just prepared to pay some extra BHT to return to the hotel (or if you want to be on your own schedule).

Room Tip: Book directly with the hotel, ask if river view room available

An apprehensive arrival in Lanna Mantra was soon destroyed after a warm, friendly and helpful welcome. After reading reviews that the hotel was located outside of Chiang Mai and not the best location, in actual fact it became the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of down town Bangkok. Though not a centre location most tourist activities in the city tend to collect you from the hotel, as part of an included package, so nothing to miss out on there! The hotel staff were helpful and the room was spacious and comfortable, with a great view of the very green pond. The pool was lovely and the restaurant in the evening provided a perfect ambiance overlooking the river!

This place is fantastic, the surrounds are nice and well maintaned, pool area is great and pool is cleaned every morning, we ate at hotel a few times and could not be better, green curry was awesome. Although the staff werent all that friendly there is nothing negative to say about this place, it is out of town a bit but they have free shuttle at 6 and it only costs 150 Bart anyway. Would def stay here again!

Great hotel. Calm gardens and a peacful swimming pool. It is a good 10 minute ride from the city center, but after seeing the hustle and bustle of the center we were glad to have a calm oasis. The only negative is the breakfast: 250 baht, for an old egg and some fruit ! There are no stores around the hotel so stock up on breakfast food before you arrive.
For dinner there is a great restaurant down the street! The place is pretty and they serve delicious thai dishes and live music. The hotel staff will tell you how to get there (about a 5 minute walk.)

If you want to really experience Chiang Mai, don't stay downtown! Northern Thailand is stunning and Lanna Mantra is just far away enough to feel it. You can be downtown in 5 minutes by tuk-tuk (rip-off USD$6 each way), or by scooter ($6 per day). We also took the hotel's bicycle downtown one night (about 20 minutes pedaling slow, watch out for dogs!). The hotel has a canoe which makes for an AWESOME morning paddle up or down the river (no bugs!). The food is good. Only problem is the staff had poor english skills and communication was difficult (why would they speak english, it's Thailand, right?). Highly recommended!

Lanna Mantra is truly an oasis of a hotel, located on the Ping River. In fact there is a free boat that takes you into town in the morning. The hotel is so peaceful, and zen, there's a pond by the reception, and a nice lobby/lounge and breakfast area that is outdoors. The service is polite and friendly but quite non-intrusive. There's a basic breakfast provided and my favorite part of the hotel was the pool and the rooms. The rooms are so comforting, clean and relaxing. My room had a view of the pond and I loved every part of my experience here. The only negative would be the distance to town but taking a tuk tuk and splitting the price with your friend is quite cheap anyway. The restaurant food was nothing to write home about but everything else was so lovely. One of the best values in a hotel I've ever had!
