“Peace and quiet on the Ping River, 10 mins. from city centre!”
Reviewed 12 August 2011

We have stayed at the Lanna Mantra twice now and had the same lovely room both times. We love this hotel as it is small and quiet and beautifully situated right on the Ping River with a beautiful infinity pool.So lovely to sit on your very spacious balcony or around the pool and watch the boats go by on the river whilst watching the birds, lizards etc. in the garden around.

It is only 200 bht for a ten minute taxi ride into the city or sometimes be lucky enough to get a free ride in the hotel car.The food is very nice and reasonably priced. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the rooms are very comfortable indeed. We will definitely be back next year.

Room Tip: The river view rooms have the best outlook.

Lanna Mantra has a great setting by the river, and the pool area is quite breathtaking. The rooms are large, nicely decorated for the most part. Construction is very basic and somewhat impractical. Floors of the rooms are 15 cm higher than in the hallways. Forget this in the morning and you might stumble a bit. My old mother did, and she continued falling down the stairs just outside her door. Nothing broken, but still not a very safe design. Came back from a long day in the city one evening - looking forward to eating at the hotel restaurant. Was informed they had closed due to rain (in the rainy season rain in quite common). Closest restaurant is half a kilometre away, no taxis around either. Did manage to eat at the resaurant. Food is below average for a tourist restaurant. Waiter went fishing in a boat on the river so had some trouble paying our bill. The staff does not seem very interested in their work. Overpriced even in the low season. Will not return.

We were a little disappointed with the bathrooms, I think the bigger rooms/villas may be better.

It was a nice peaceful location, our taxi driver took us to the wrong place intially so might be best to take the address in Thai.

The pool was lovely.

The free shutle bus could drop you off before the town at some nearby bars, which were nice and chilled.

Would defo recommend!

We stayed at Lanna Mantra a year ago (i know my review is late already!). But this hotel rocks! SUPERB service, polite staff, helpful in translating english to thai when booking activities.

Even though the flying lantern festival is over. They even helped us flew our flying lanterns! We bought a few flying lanterns in the market and would like to fly it. we asked for one of the staff's help, and they gladly offer a helping hand!

Comfortable queen bed.
Nice balcony overlooking the Ping River
Huge bathtub
Organic Soaps!
In room fridge
Very spacious room!
Safe box

Airport-Hotel-Airport Transfers (though not free) but they'll arrange it for you. On time transfers, you won't be late on your flight.

Its really close to nature (if that's kind of your thing).

The ambiance, the lighting, the nature, the very very good service, i couldnt ask for more!

Book this hotel and you'll never regret it!

Reading guide books some times can be very uninspiring.
I always catch myself with a little smile when i read "It is
here that Hemingway was drinking his coffee and There he
had his first whiskey (and second and third...)and it was somewhere
over there that he looked a girl watch by...
It feels like no one have traveled or have been to so many places like
him...
Well,i do feel that if he was alive,He would pick this exact hotel for his stay
in Chiang Mai.
Not because it is the most luxurious, not at all,but for the atmosphere and
the tranquility of the place.
Lanna Mantra is not very central, it is situated north of the town (i think,it's been a while since i visited it) behind the river.
The river looks like the natural continue of the pool.
I was afraid that there will be mosquito around but there weren't any(i assume that
the people of the hotel had taken care of that too...)
The rooms are spacious and have an elegance that makes you wonder about the low price you paid for it .
The garden is beautiful and the breakfast superb.
Here everything works like they should and this comes so natural...
I can't wait for the day i will be back at Beautiful Chiang Mai and have a nice cold
beer next to the pool of Lanna Mantra.
I think Hemingway would agree!

Lanna Mantra is worth the extra $$ and time to get to. As other reviewers have noted, it is not within walking distance to the Old City. However, it makes for a peaceful, relaxing spot away from the city center. You can get into Chiang Mai with the 10:30am shuttle or 6:00pm shuttle. From previous reviews, the 10:30 shuttle was via boat. However, for the 3 nights we were at Lanna Mantra, both the morning and evening shuttle were via a songtaew (shared truck). Upon arrival, we were told the 10:30 shuttle wasn't running, but in the morning we found it, in fact, was. Not a big deal as the information was simply lost in translation.

We booked on Agoda (only paid $47 a night in off seasons) and because of that, I wasn't surprised that we were placed in the building facing the pond/restaurant. Still a great room, but it didn't face the river like the other 3 buildings do.

Room comfort was excellent. Ground were in great condition and pool was an added bonus. Highly recommend this property, but just prepared to pay some extra BHT to return to the hotel (or if you want to be on your own schedule).

Room Tip: Book directly with the hotel, ask if river view room available

An apprehensive arrival in Lanna Mantra was soon destroyed after a warm, friendly and helpful welcome. After reading reviews that the hotel was located outside of Chiang Mai and not the best location, in actual fact it became the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of down town Bangkok. Though not a centre location most tourist activities in the city tend to collect you from the hotel, as part of an included package, so nothing to miss out on there! The hotel staff were helpful and the room was spacious and comfortable, with a great view of the very green pond. The pool was lovely and the restaurant in the evening provided a perfect ambiance overlooking the river!
