“Peaceful riverside location”
Reviewed 14 May 2012

Situated about 5kms north of Chiang Mai on the banks of the Ping river, this hotel is set in jungle surrounds. Room we had was great, large, well-appointed and facing the swimming pool. Ah yes, the beautiful infinity swimming pool in gardens overlooking the river - quite stunning. Buffet breakfast was good, quality and variety on a daily basis. Staff were helpful but young and apparently inexperienced, often seemd quite disinterested. Anybody wanting a quiet space outside the hustle and bustle of central Chiang Mai should consider the Lanna Mantra. Easy to get a taxi into town, the staff will book one for you.

Room Tip: Try and get a room overlooking the swimming pool or river

We booked this as a budget stay through Expedia and weren't sure what to expect, and we're very pleased. This small hotel is on the river about 15 mins from Chiang Mai centre and is incredibly peaceful. We loved the tasteful bright cool room with big bed, crisp white sheets that opened onto wood balcony. Really nice bathroom and infinity pool on the riverside. There are even a few fitness machines if the heat is not too much. A good choice on the breakfast buffet and staff spoke good English- and helped us book trips/tours as well as providing twice daily free shuttle to the old town. Highly recommended- a real treat compared to the backpacker digs in town.

This hotel was so lovely, from the moment of arrival we felt welcomed and relaxed. The room facing the river was stunning with a beautiful view as we woke up each morning. Breakfast relaxed. Staff very helpful.

Room Tip: About 15 minutes from Centre by tuk tuk but well away from the usual city chaos

Quite enjoyed coming here after spending 5 days in busy Bangkok. The Lanna was a nice change as its quite beautiful, lots of green and trees everywhere as well as a beautiful big pond, swimming pool and on the lake, making it quite tranquil and relaxing. The rooms (we had a standard) nice enough, clean, spacious, pretty veiw over pond. Only downside was the bathroom at the entrance to the room is not at all sound proof to the walkway outside between the rooms. We were with friends who were in the room next door and could easily here everything they were saying when standing outside their room (which was outside the bathroom) or even just from our bathroom.
The pool was very pretty and we had a nice time relaxing by it in the sun or shade, only problem was its not heated! The outside temperature was really warm so you wanted to hop in the poool but then get straight out as it was freezing!
Breakfast was good, nice variety of eggs, fruit cereal, muffins etc. Pretty good for a complimentary brekafast.
Was outside main Chiang Mai but was only a 150Baht taxi and the hotel would happily arrange one for you but also had a free one each night at 6pm. Some taxis were not keen to take us all, but could usually persuade them for 200Baht.
Very friendly helpful staff :)

Very helpful staff, tasteful and modern rooms, beautiful surroundings, but outside Chiang Mai. Tuk tuk is maximum 150 baht from anywhere in Chiang Mai (be sure to negotiate). The hotel provides shuttle service to town twice daily. It's one of these hotels where you talk to the other guests. It's great.

One of our favorite stays while travelling through Thailand for two weeks over the winter break. The staff are all young, but very friendly and helpful. The hotel is located about 10-15 minutes from the city centre, and you will have a longer time to wait to get a pick up taxi late at night to take you there - approx 250 baht, but it was not a big deal for us The rooms were clean, air conditioned and surrounded by lots of leafy gardens. Breakfast was excellent, lots of choices, and fresh fruit juices. You will want to bring some bug spray if you plan on chilling by the river/pool at night , as we experienced a few bug bites.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that overlooks the courtyard koi pond, or facing the river. We liked the ground floor...

I have traveled all over Thailand in the past 2 weeks, and this by far is the nicest hotel I've had the pleasure to stay at! The people of Chaing Mai are so kind... A relief from the hustlers of Bangkok & Phuket. If you only had one week for a vacation, just come here & save your time! There is plenty to do out here as well... Elephant rides, tiger tours & even white water rafting! The hotel even provides free shuttle to the city. Bring an extra empty suitcase, the shopping is amazing!
