“Better look for guest houses”
Reviewed 10 April 2013 via mobile

The hotel has 2 wings. We booked an upgrade after we saw the room in the very old, wing (spider webs, mould in the bathroom). The room in the new wing was a typical boring hotel room on the 8th floor. Seems to be a place that is frequented by Chinese tourists. Breakfast was of low quality but offered a wide range of Asian food. Recommendation is to look for guest houses in Chang Mai - not for hotels. Although the place was cheap there are just more authentic places in Chang Mai.

I enjoyed my 9 days in Chiang Mai with my spouse. Maninarikorn is located right between the old city and the Night Market area which is great for walkers like we are. The room was spacious and pretty clean. We had hot water, plenty of storage, and good privacy. But it was just a little run down, no elevator, small pool that was shaded after 3pm (about the time one wants to lay out). The exercise center, although it had good equipment, had inadequate AC and ventilation. If you want to stay on top of your fitness while in Thailand, do not stay here. My advice for Westerners is to book 2 or 3 nights here and if you like it, book your stay longer, but don't commit ahead of time as comfort is relative.

Room was enormous with comfy furniture and clean. Bed was okay
Breakast was slop. Fruit was the only thing that was decent. The location was really good and the night market was just around the corner. The front desk staff were useless and would not book us a second night. She told us to use Expedia

Room Tip: Ask if there are safes in the rooms

Our last stay in the Maninarakorn was in the budget rooms that surround the main building and although the room was clean, it was very dated and not very comforatble. We do like the hotel but this time we very careful with our booking to ensure it was in the new building. We booked a suite and were pleasantly surprised with the room - it was spacious, nicely decorated and clean. I have always found the staff to be very helpful, friendly and willing to assist. The breakfast buffet was very good with a large selection of Thai and western type food. The hotel is only 200 mtrs from the popular night bazaar and a short tuk tuk ride to the Sunday 'walking street' markets. The hotel complex has a number of shops within the complex that offer tour services, massage, a hairdresser and even a tailor. There is a 7-Eleven store right next door for your convenience.

Room Tip: The budget rooms (Residence) are cheap and clean but not for us. The Superior Twin Room, Superior Ki...

We stayed here for 2 nights and found the room to be clean and very spacious. It is arranged like an apartment, with a living room near the entry and the bedroom near the back.

The hotel has two wings...1 that is older and 1 recently remodeled. Unfortuntely, we were in the older wing, which does not have an elevator. This was less than ideal when it was time to bring our luggage down for check-out.

The breakfast buffet features a medley of local and Western foods. I ate the local food and loved the flavors.

The hotel is well located and is an easy 8-9 minute walk to the night market.

The only issue I had was that the internet was spotty and not available in the room (this was definitely not made clear in the listing for the hotel).

I had some kind of suite with 2 rooms. I had the impression this was like a luxury hotel but it´s rather basic. Good breakfast buffet and very friendly staff. I liked it here although I prefer the location near the gate instead.

2nd time back to Maninarakorn Hotel. Stayed in hotel block deluxe room. Its a good hotel located centrally from all the tourist sights of Chiang Mai such as the Night Bazaar, the various massage joints, Aiwan morning market (about a 10 minute walk), shopping street and street food. Positives: Hotel still does a fair job maintaining cleanliness; has a friendly and helpful team of staff who do their best to help; good amenities such as swimming pool; a fair buffet breakfast that should help one get through the day. Negatives: Swimming pool was not cleaned duration of my stay (and I stayed 4 days). This was not good especially for the weary traveller looking for some cool respite after a long-day of traipsing around Chiang Mai; the hot water in the shower was a little tricky and not good as its either way too hot or way too cold. Getting the right temperature was an adventure by itself. The hotel management should fix this problem. I am sure I'm not the only guest who faced this issue.

Overall, its a good hotel for the weary traveller looking for a clean and basic place to stay. If you have higher expectations or want more, than perhaps this hotel may not be the right choice.

Room Tip: Rooms in Hotel block are newer
