“Lovely quiet hotel on the edge of Chang Mai”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 January 2013

Spent 3 nights at the Rimping Village. It was in a very quiet location on the edge of Chang Mai within walking distance of the centre. The staff were very friendly and the room was lovely. Very clean and comfortable. Excellent breakfast. Only had one evening meal but it was very good.

We stayed here for 4 nights in Dec 2012 with my husband and we were made to feel very welcome. The staff are extremely helpful (the friendliest hotel staff we experienced during our stay in Thailand) and always there to greet you no matter what time of day or night. I felt the rooms were basic but clean. Good location, off the main road so it's peaceful and we found it pretty easy to walk into the old town and surrounding areas. Definitely great value for money.

Me and my wife stayed at the Rimping Village for 6 days. The hotel is located on a peaceful spot about 20 minute walk from the center of town. The entire complex is very relaxed. The room was large. Breakfast included fresh variety of baked foods and fruits. We had dinner at the restaurant a few nights and were satisfied. The thing that I take the most from the Rimping Village is the service. We felt the staff was taking care of us as if we were family. Not only they had answer to every question we had, but they made so many efforts to make sure everything is alright. I would definitely recommend the place to anyone going to Chiang Mai.

We spent 10 days at the hotel over Christmas 2012. We had a family room for our two boys of 10 & 8 plus my wife and I. We are used to luxury hotels of the Four Seasons type but a friend living in Chiang Mai recommended this hotel and thus we gave it a try. It exceeded all expectation. It was extremley good value for money, the room was well equipped, spacious and clean. The hotel surrounds are tranquil , well laid out and very conveniently located. The staff are just brilliant, nothing was too much trouble, they were warm, affable, knowledgeable and pompt to each and every request.(and there were many!!) The food was good but not great , but excelloent value, the pool area was well laid out and excellently maintained We cannot recommend the hotel highly enough...it is superb.

My family spent a great week on holiday in Chiang Mai and we can't say enough good things about the Rimping Village staff. The hotel is an easy walk (or wobbly hotel-provided bike ride) from the river, the markets, and good restaurants of all kinds. It's not a big place and the atmosphere is just about right for what we wanted for our family. No drunken idiots, no loud parties, and a staff that is one of the very best I've ever experienced in any of my travels. From silly tourist requests ("How do I light this sky lantern?") to more routine ones ("my daughter's birthday is this week...how do we get a cake?"), they exceeded expectations every single time.

The simple but reliable breakfast buffet was a big hit with my family, especially my young kids. And I admit I was hammering that mango sticky rice every morning...YUM.

No place is perfect and this place rightfully gets outstanding reviews, so I will take a moment to mention just one minor downside where things could be improved. The complimentary bikes are a great resource (especially for a quick run to the grocery!) but holy smokes are they ever in need of maintenance. I borrowed bikes 3 times and every time I felt like I was on something assembled by a drunk relative. There's a bike for every size and they're safe enough, I guess, but don't think you're going to spend a day on them. It wouldn't be pleasant.

One other comment: as with many Southeast Asia hotels, the beds are hard as bricks when compared to Western standards. If you can't sleep on that, pack accordingly.

The hotel provided transportation to and from our arrival point (train station) and departure point (airport) and both were precisely on time and in super-comfortable vans. And when we did dumb things like buy huge souvenirs without thinking how we could get them packed for the flight home, the hotel staff quickly found packing materials and made sure we got it all boxed and loaded, right in the middle of their lobby.

No real complaints from our week at Rimping Village. We are an active family so walking the city from the hotel was no problem. If you're not crazy about that much walking, tuk-tuks are quickly summoned by the front desk. And the one night we needed a tuk-tuk ride back in from a day of exploring, the driver knew exactly where the hotel was, which was nice to see and not always the case for small hotels.

In short, this is a great place for a family vacation. Not a resort, not a chain hotel, but just a quiet and reliable place to stay, made even better by the outstanding people who work there.

Room Tip: If you're traveling with little kids, get the Family Suite, for a combination of many beds and a...

Agree with all the other reviews - friendly, comfortable, family run small hotel and great value in this city. Breakfast was very good and we enjoyed dinner in the restaurant one night. We stayed 3 nights and opted to pay a little more for a deluxe room. The deluxe rooms have private balconies and are centered around a small courtyard (rather than the pool and restaurant) providing a very quiet environment. As noted by others the pool is cold and the hotel is a long walk from the old city but really close to great riverside dining.Would definitely recommend this hotel for those looking for quality without paying five star prices!

Room Tip: Try the deluxe room if you prefer to sleep in.....
