“Perfect place to stay”

Nice hotel, not far from the railwaystation and close to the center of the city. Close to nightmarkets. You can walk it all, but tuktuks are also always around.
Friendly and helpfull staff!
Acceptable rooms, nice restaurant and nice swimming pool. What else do you need?

We had a three night stay here in August and cannot fault it, the staff were extremely efficient in every way, arranging transfers, taxi's, suggesting things to do, maps and directions.
Rooms were a good size and very clean, and breakfasts were excellent.
The pool was very welcoming after being out all day, and there were always sun beds available
It wasn't far to the night market over the river, and the bikes were very handy to get about on

We started our five night stay thinking it was just average but as time went on I felt it was fair to revise upwards. However, I understand the reservations of those that rated it lower. One guest checked out and left for a hotel 60% more expensive! Another refers to the size of the swimming pool and the noise of children. Few tell the real story so here is my opinion and a few tips. We stayed in the Rimping de luxe, not to be confused with their de luxe ( without the Rimping). Other experiences may vary.

The hotel is two storeys set around a pool. There is no lift/elevator. As one reviewer described it , it has a motel feel but it seems better than many of these. One reviewer remarked that the rooms are dark. This is true and partly because the covered canopy over the exposed route to the rooms, shades the room. You can open the curtains wide but it will not be the brightest room you have stayed in particularly as it is only 2 storeys.

The pool clearly attracts families to stay. We were not disturbed by the noise but this might vary by week. In any event, most of the time families are out and in the later evenings the pool was deserted. The pool is well maintained and the ample number of beds covered when it rains and wiped down. There is an ample supply of pool towels. We were a little irritated because we were at the end of the corridor and the seats outside rooms and the wet swimwear provided an obstacle course to our room. Hardly the fault of management. The pictures look as thought there might be gardens in which to relax. Although the pool surround is most attractively planted and really well maintained with leaf fall picked up daily, it is not a separate area to the pool or secluded. The village is the village not village as in you might expect a larger resort.

The room is large and one reviewer remarked on hard beds. They are, but no harder than many others in Thailand. We were comfortable. The air conditioning in the rooms worked well and was customarily noisy. The toilets might strain family sensitivities. No toilet paper can be put down the toilet. You have a bin with a plastic liner in which to put paper. This is not too unusual in Thailand but not universal. If that worries you, you should check. The shower was not easy to adjust but there seemed to be ample hot water. Ample towels etc too.

The staff were a joy and reflected in my higher rating. They were accommodating, full of smiles, and spoke the best English we encountered in Thailand. When we reported an aircon problem ( room service had switched it off ) the reception guy ran all the way to us immediately! Service like no other.

While it is true that in 10 minutes you can walk to the night market, the route is somewhat dismal. The quick route is down a bike width path. Turn right out of the hotel, and it narrows down after 100 metres. After dark it is quite dark, it is not made up and holds puddles and you are likely to meet stray dogs and worse motorcycles. It smells at the beginning. Down here is the laundry some refer to. On the right of the narrow part of the lane. Not a place I would take my laundry but it is cheap.

From the end of the lane you hit the main road. Over the road to the iron bridge and night market, keep walking straight. The market is good and different goods to many others. Other than that you can then turn left for the 711 and right for a few places to eat including an American place with nearly European prices to suit. The paths here are awful so the whole route is pretty awful. This is not the fault of the hotel but it feels lacking. Alternatively turn left out of the hotel, almost immediately right and take the next right. This takes you to a supermarket on the left , really well stocked, even great bread and wine stocks and with eating and coffee places. You cannot buy wine until after 5 pm though ( Thai licensing). This route also takes you to the iron bridge and is therefore the more circuitous route to the main road. This route is a little longer, less unstable but not very inspiring either. You pass local businesses but these are less colourful than most inThailand.

Reception at the hotel can summon a tuk tuk, the common transport here. Taxis exist but rarer. The fare is 150 baht fixed, although we negotiated 100 baht back so do not assume it is always 150 baht.

As a simple outing, besides the wats etc you might want to visit Central Festival Mall, newly opened and magnificent. We preferred it to malls in Bangkok. It is within the 150 baht distance but not really walking distance. The doorman at the mall summons a taxi back, exit near M&S in the mall, so all very easy. You might think M&S is less inspiring. Expensive and a food hall you will fit in your bedroom.

I have reviewed the restaurant at Rimping separately. Pretty good rather than excellent for breakfast, not wonderful for dinner was our view.

So, not without its issues as other reviewers will say. It did grow on us. The staff were amazing and it is reasonable in price. You can avoid the less than inspiring ways out by taking a tuk tuk. Overall, we warmed to it massively.

The room was well maintained, simple, and had good air conditioning as well as a nice bathtub and shower. 2 Free bottles of water were given each day, there are free movies to borrow (in blue ray), and a good restaurant attached. The night market is a 15 minute walk away. One negative, however, as with almost every place-you are lied to straight to your face about taxi prices so be wary! That is one thing that quite annoyed my wife and me because the ride to the airport should be <75 baht, however they said it would be 200 when reserving. Overall the staff was helpful and friendly, just know what you should be paying for things well in advance.

Picked up early in the morning from the railway station in a luxury van. The room wasn't ready but a complementary breakfast and the pool made time pass quickly. Room was huge: two extra mattresses and a sofa bed for our 3 boys easily fitted in.
Staff were extremely friendly. We really appreciate the birthday cake for my husband. Kids enjoyed the pool. Also the restaurant was nice.
Location was convenient. We used the free bikes to get around (the brakes could use some maintenance). Laundry was expensive but in the little alley close to the hotel there's a much cheaper option.
We went on a multi-day trip to Mae Hong Son and could leave one of our bags at the hotel.

This little hotel was perfect for my husband and i to stay in over a weekend in Chiang Mai.

- Great value for money.
- The location was great. Walking distance to some great restaurants and the Night Bazaar.
- The staff were excellent and super helpful and amazingly gracious and went out of their way to accommodate. They helped plan our excursions around Chiang Mai, making taxi bookings and massage bookings etc
- The rooms were clean and spacious. The bed also very comfortable.
- Great breakfast buffet.

I cannot recommend this hotel enough to all travellers to Chiang Mai.

We were welcomed at the airport by the stunningly beautiful hotel manager. The airport transfer car was surprisingly luxurious and comfortable. We had a very nice friendly arrival at the hotel but were not impressed by the room and other facilities as we had expected better for the price we paid (about 90 USD). Breakfast was also not very good as the area is a bit cramped and there were no warm options for vegetarians. We didn't use the swimming pool at all as it didn't look inviting. I agree with other reviewers that the service is excellent but travelers should be aware that you pay a high price for this service and that better facilities at this price range can probably be found elsewhere in Chiang Mai.
