“lovely quiet place”
Reviewed 28 April 2010

This was a great score. It was my husband and my first time in Thailand and this was the first city we stayed in after arriving. I would suggest getting the address written in Thai before arriving as the tuktuk driver had no idea where this was, but eventually we found it. We were disappointed because I had asked for a balcony room when booking, but they were all taken when we got there. It was a great place to base from after arriving though. The cafe had great thai food and a yummy english breakfast. The people on staff were all EXCELLENT, and really friendly and helpful and always smiling. We were right across the street from a beautiful wat and there were numerous others nearby. Just recovering from jet lag, we liked the quiet room, comfy bed (compared to other thai beds), and relaxed atmosphere. I would recommend this particularly to couples who can do without frills or a pool who want to see the city and have a quiet atmosphere.

My partner and I stayed here and thoroughly enjoyed our it. The staff, especially Nong, were extremely helpful with suggestions on where we should go and helped us out when we had trouble figuring our where to park the scooter we rented.

The elephant nature park that Nong suggested was superb. He arranged everything for us, without a service charge. No worries, this is not a place that tries to sell you on tours, we asked for suggestions and he was more than helpful even telling us to check out the official government office, not putting any pressure on us to book through the Queen Victoria.

The restaurant here also has delicious Thai and Western food and a nice atmosphere. The breakfast menu has a good variety of food and is well priced. The room was cleaned and serviced every day. Staying here made our time in Chiang Mai really enjoyable. We would recommend it to any of our family and friends traveling on a budget to midrange level in Thailand. :)

Spent 3 nights and enjoyed the stay. Staff were mostly friendly and helped organize any tour I would like. Location was a 5 minute walk to the Sunday night market, but otherwise a little out of the way. Restaurant has a main focus on Western food, but does have some Thai selections. A little pricey for my budget - most dishes were over 100 Baht - even the local ones.
Wifi is available, but only on lower floors. Left my dirty laundry in a bag beside my pack and it was taken and washed - mixed feelings on them not asking first.

For the price, this is one of the best stays in Chiang Mai. I intended to stay for 3 days and ended up staying 8. The hotel is centrally located in the Pae Gate area, and within 2 minutes of the central TAT office (which is brilliant for booking anything in Thailand). The rooms are tastefully decorated, spacious and clean. They have a TV, bathrooms and hot showers. The staff is very friendly.

The only drawback it has is the pub downstairs, which can be a bit loud if you want to get an early night. Also, the staff will definitely try to sell you a trekking tour or a cooking course, but they are not too pushy about it, and what they offer is good value.

Would stay here again!

The Queen Victoria was very accomadating from the beginning by answering with the staff (Nong and manager Sirilak) answering emails promptly in English. The hotel restaurant is also a bonus as they have not only thai food but delicious western food at reasonable prices (and phenomenal margaritas). The rooms are clean, very nicely decorated and were excellent for sleeping. The staff also helped to arrange tours, allowed us to leave our baggage after check out and helped with numerous other small traveler questions. Overall, an excellent establishment!

We stayed in a deluxe room (typically 800 Baht per night -- reduced to 650 for long-term stay), which was large, comfortable, and very quiet. Although the location isn't right in the center of the Old City, it is convenient to everything you'd want in Chiang Mai. The Thai food at the British pub downstairs is also surprisingly good. All in all, we had a great time here.
