“Wonderful retreat for the money”
Reviewed 13 April 2013

This is a superb little hotel and a great escape from the activity in Chiang Mai. Staff are lovely and rooms comfortable and traditional. Breakfast is excellent and the free tansfers to and from the airport as well as free tuk tuk rides to the night market on the hour each evening were appreciated. The jungle environment is beautiful and does attract what semed to be lazy mosquitos. Rooms upstairs would therefore be the better option. It is a 5 minute tuk tuk ride out of town but I think the price reflects that and as well as the free tuk tuk there are always tuks tuks outside to flag down for a 100 BHT (£2.40) ride to town. A lovely little retreat.

Room Tip: Rooms upstairs are much lighter.

I don't know why this place is so highly rated, but I haven't stayed at other hotels here to compare.
Pro's = 2 nice pools, fairly short tuktuk ride to night bazaar and good restaurants by the river. Comfortable bed. Nice staff.
Con's = all the beautiful plants seem to attract lots of mosquitos, so had to kill them in the room. Delux room is pretty small with hardly any room to put stuff after opening suitcase. 2 hangers in tiny closet, tiny shelves for clothes.

We stayed here for two nights after staying in the centre of Chiang Mai. The hotel is lovely, with nice rooms, two lovely pools and great food in the restaurant. The only drawback to this hotel is the location which is around 15 minutes outside Chiang Mai's old city and so we sometimes found it difficult to find a tuk tuk or other transport back to the hotel. If you are looking for some piece and quiet outside of the city this is a lovely hotel and we would definitely recommend it.

I really don't think you could top this service. Anything we needed or asked for was accomodated. THe staff at the front desk was SOOO helpful. They helped us with scheduling an elephant tour to a place that was good to the elephants. This place was beautiful; the grounds are like a jungle. The breakfast each morning was delicious, I loved the pancakes with bananas. The shower was nice with organic soaps you could buy in the lobby. THe free tuktuk to the nigth bazaar was nice too. The place is just beautiful and would recommend anyone stay here.

Room Tip: The beds are a little on the harder side, but didn't bother me.

Glad I found this hotel after I got the message that the hotel I originally booked was unavailable due to renovation. Shewe Wana is an oasis in a busy and noisy city. As soon as you step inside and turn the corner you are in a mini-jungle and everything is peace and quiet. Friendly and helpful staff. Free tuktuk to night bazaar. Pools were actually bigger then I expected. They are never really full because everyone is out doing daytrips most of the time. If there were any point of critique: room (standard) was a bit small and there was no place to sit down at night (in front if the room was possible but too many mosquitos). Also as mentioned before lighting in the room could be better (cozier). We stayed six nights.

This is a a very late review as I completed my stay at Shewe Wana in October 2012. The resort entrance is inconspicious along the road. The rooms are around beautiful gardens which offers tranquility. The hotel is located amongst neigbourhood shops and the roads are relatively quiet after 9pm.

The resort offers complimentary shuttle to the market and softdrinks in the mini bar. The night bazaar and town is within 10-15mins walk. The resort is 2 storey high and suggest guest request for ground level rooms if travelling with young children and elderly. Complimentary toiletries are great, love the charcoal wash - possible to purchase at the reception area. Wifi in the room is weak so we ended up sitting at the hotel lounge area when we want internet access.

The staff are accommodating and service-oriented. Would definitely come back here next time I visit Chiangmai and recommend this oasis to my friends.

Stayed at this hotel for 5 days during March 13. Very impressed from the beginning, was collected from the airport as requested without issue and without charge.
Our flight arrived in Chiang Mai at 9am and surprisingly we were allocated a room as soon as we got to the hotel without having to wait till the check in time.
The room was very beautiful, cleaned everyday and linen changed everyday also. Complimentary toiletries were a pleasant surprise and used constantly throughout our stay.
Our stay included breakfast, there was plenty of choice and even cooked to your requirements.
The staff at the Shewe Wana are a highlight of this hotel, nothing is too much to ask for and will attempt to help you in anyway possible, always smiling and very friendly.
WiFi in the room was used greatly, was also a nice surprise being free for the duration of our stay.
The grounds within the hotel are kept very beautiful, consistent smell of fresh flowers and aromatherapy oils coming from the onsite spa - unfortunately did not have time to test this out.
Good location, within 10 minute walk to night bizarre, and 5 minute walk to river. Tuk tuks always passing by hotel for those who dont wish to walk, hotel also provides travel to the markets.
Would go back to this hotel tomorrow, would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone!!!
