My wife and I had a wonderful 4 night stay at Banthai Village. It is a boutique hotel and the best way of describing our experience is "intimate". The rooms are fantastic - we were upgraded to a suite alongside the pool. Huge King size bed, spacious lounge area, well appointed bath area with large bath and shower - lovely touches with decor. A lovely outdoor dining area and bar - with a library above the bar overlooking the pool - are on one side of the pool; half a dozen loungers; tree surrounded. It was hard to believe we were in a city. The service from the staff is the very best we have experienced in our many years of travel - they seemed to anticipate our every need but were unobstrusive. In the late afternoon early evening students play traditional Thai musical instruments. Imagine lying on a sun-lounger as the sun sets, drink in hand served so beautifully, listening to the quiet tones of traditional music - sooooo realaxing. Actually the atmosphere at the hotel is so intimate and relaxing it is hard to venture outside it. Although there were others staying in the hotel it certainly at no stage felt crowded as resorts often do.

The office staff are well informed and read your needs quickly - we found their advice accurate and very helpful.

If you do venture out you will find the famous night market is a 5 min stroll away, restaurants alongside the river about 10 minutes - the Riverside is one worth a visit, the old village is a 3-5 minute walk in the other direction. There is a good laundry on the hotel doorstep and Tuktuks and taxis available outside.

We have stayed in Chiang Mai on several occasions (and in Phuket many times) the Banthai Village surpasses everywhere we have stayed by miles. We will be back. A small warning DON'T be put off by the road entrance into Banthai Village - it is truely a hidden treasure like a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.

Room Tip: The rooms alongside the pool areto die for :)

The moments spent at BanThai Village hotel were superb! From the quaint and peaceful setting, the excellent staff and the delicious food. We knew the moment we set foot on this hotel, we were going to have a fantastic time. The location of the hotel is quite close to most places of interest. Thank you to BanThai for making our stay a truly, wonderful experience.

We had a fabulous stay at Banthai for four nights in august. We arrived at the hotel, to be given a refreshing juice while we checked in. The hotel employees were very friendly and gave us lots of information on things to do and places to eat. We had booked the deluxe room which was split over two levels; bathroom and changing area downstairs and a four poster bed, with another toilet upstairs. the room was very comfortable and we slept really well. It is all wooden teak style, surrounded by lush greens. Our balcony overlooked the side access road and the hotel grounds. The hotel itself is built around the main restaurant and swimming pool. It has a very relaxing feel and you have no idea you are slap bang in the middle of Chiang Mai. The location is fantastic, 5 minutes from night bizarre and 10 minutes from the city gate. The hotel had a happy hour, and you just have to try the apple mohitos, the best cocktail i have ever had! we drank enough of them!!! The restaurant, was fantastic, really reasonably priced food and it was just delicious. They had local music students come in every afternoon to play you traditional Thai music, was really lovely. They also organised tours for us to go on, i was worried they would only have a small selection available, however they have several folders for you to look through and do not force any on you. Just recommend the ones their guests have enjoyed. They booked it all up and arranged the times and dates, all went without a hitch!

2 downsides - firstly, i felt the price of laundry was very high!! there were a lot more places advertising laundry for cheaper down the road. secondly, I felt they overcharged on their taxi prices to and from the airport. It costs 120bht from the airport to downtown chiang mai using a local taxi, but the hotel were charging 500bht to be picked up using a local taxi and 250bht to be dropped off.

however that aside, it really was a fantastic place! a true oasis in the city, it was wonderful to relax here and enjoy the laid back feeling of BanThai Village. I will definitly be staying here on my return trip.

Nice rustic feel. Big rooms and beds, most overlooking the long pool. Bar and library are nice places to chill out after a long day seeing the sights. Front desk service was a bit erratic and at times lacking the normal Thai smile, but nothing major. Good breakfast, from fruit to eggs & bacon. They can also organise tours, but you can get better deals elsewhere.
It's not a cheap option, but if you value your peace and quiet it's worth the extra Baht.

I stay here on mid August 2011 for 3 nights. I actually love this hotel. Though we didn't get room around d pool area, d room we got is still lovely. I love good smell towel. I really love d room design, so lovely and comfortable. d bed is big. d bathtub is big. there is toilet shower (quite important for me). their price for many type of tours are reasonable too (though I heard from other person they get slightly cheaper price from outside hotel). breakfast is average, only limited choices. the pool looks lovely though I didn't try it. another good thing is d location. It is only about 5-10 mins to get to tha phae gate, d gate to old city, many nearby restaurants too. It costs 60 baht to go to good view restaurant (beside ping river) and about 10 mins walk from night market to hotel.
so anything was actually perfect, until I need to get shower. then I find it sooo difficult to set. d only choices are too hot or too cold plus around 3 seconds of normal warm water. So it takes about half an hour for me to finish my shower, cos I only get d warm water every 3 seconds after changing from hot to cold / cold to hot. This is actually worst shower I've ever get. It is clean, but so frustrating to set. A message for the hotel, if you really care about d environment, you wont only ask us to not change d towel everyday but also to fix this problem. Because, I waste so much water for half an hour because this problem, I usually finish my shower only about 15 mins without shampooing. I will love to stay here again if they really care about this problem.

Loved this little hotel! The location is excellent for the night Market- literally just a few minutes walk away. The staff were so helpful and friendly. Breakfast was lovely. The hotel itself is beautiful and it's small which is nice. The rooms were great and they had everything you would want, including free wifi. There's a nice little pool- I didn't get time to use it but it looked lovely and spotless ! I would highly recommend banthai village hotel, it was perfect!

After trawling through hundreds of reviews of numerous hotels, we settled on this one, and boy did we find a little gem. Arriving at night, the approach to the hotel was not the most auspicious, and we were a bit worried, but when we stepped inside, wow! Built in the style of a Lanna rice village, this boutique hotel is full of character and built around a small (immaculately clean) pool and open air bar/dining area with plenty of greenery and trees. Lit by lots of lamps at night, the effect is positively magical. The rooms are fairly basic with teak or polished concrete floors but spotlessly clean. An oasis of calm, ideally located, halfway between the old city and the night bazaar, it is within walking distance of both. We stayed with our family of 3 kids - 11,13 and 16 years oldfor 6 days in adjoining rooms - no interconnecting ones avail. The pool was literally outside our bedroom doors, which they loved. Service was discreet and unassuming. No pressure to get in to clean the rooms - they saw when you were heading out and then appeared. Lots of patience with kids who locked themselves out of room or forgot code for safe . . . . Brekfast was freshly cooked to order. Reasonably priced menu for lunch/dinner if you dont feel like going any further, with enough selection to satisfy western and asian tastes. Though lots of restaurants nearby. We adored the place. Will definitely return. Highly recommend
