There were no handicap accessible apartments listed but the listing indicated the building was wheelchair accessible as there is an elevator. We were met at the airport driven to the apartment.
The apartment would be difficult if totally wheelchair bound but if able to get around with crutches it is manageable.
Bathroom- The owner provided a plastic patio chair to use in the walk in shower and we had a suction grab bar to install for support. The bathroom was small enough to use the sink, wall for support to get up from the toilet and into the shower.
The bedroom is very small with the bed pushed up to the wall allowing access to left side of bed only.
The living room was comfortable and the balcony a great place to have coffee.
The kitchen was adequately supplied with dishes and pans, a coffee maker, electric kettle and toaster. There was even paper towels and soap and some seasonings provided. There is a combination clothes washer and dryer. The drying cycle does not totally dry the clothes, they are hung on the balcony to finish drying and decreases the wrinkles.
The pool and fitness center were unfortunately on the second floor of another building without an elevator therefore inaccessible.
The condo is in a residential area near the outer ring of Chiang Mai. There is shopping and restaurants located at the Maya shopping center about a 15 minute walk from the condo. The road from the condo to the main road near the shopping center is not very busy and a fairly smooth surface for wheelchair use. Once at the main road there is a sidewalk but again there is often obstructions-motorcycles parked, garbage bags and rough pavement. There are some ramps at the driveways but they are VERY steep and rough. To get through, my husband uses his crutches and I maneuver the wheelchair around.
As a visitor you are on your own to arrange transportation and find restaurants.
The condo owners provided a name and phone number - Woody that has a taxi/limousine service (081-883-5816). We were able to arrange for a car and driver to takes on 3 outings for a very reasonable price. One afternoon we visited 4 temples in Chiang Mai, one to the temple on the mountain and one afternoon to an elephant camp and visit to hill tribe village. The car had a large enough trunk to accommodate a folded wheelchair. The drivers were very friendly, helpful with the wheelchair and provided some information about the sights we were visiting.
