We had a bumpy start at this hotel - after arriving from a long day travelling we were very confused to be bundled into a van and taken to a completely different hotel, a tall high rise in a car park! We were told there'd been a roof fallen through in our room, after some discussion it became clear that while the 'Jasmine Honeymoon Suite' we'd booked was broken, there were other rooms available at the Oriental Siam so we were taken back and allowed to have a different room for a couple of nights. Later that day we were told lots of others had had a similar problem and it was actually double booking - when we walked past the Jasmine room there were people in it so it was all very odd.

That said, the resort is absolutely gorgeous and the rooms (both the one we were in first, and when we were eventually moved to the one we booked) were very very nice and high standard. They were clean, with lovely bathrooms, and the Jasmine room had a nice private garden area. The swimming pool is very nice, and the gardens are just gorgeous.

After the initial glitch, all of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, we really couldn't have asked for a better service and their advice was always useful.

We ate a couple of nights at the owner's uncle's restaurant which is 5mins walk from the hotel - the food was very good, although it had quite loud music we could have done without. We also went into Chiang Mai and ate there a couple of times, expect to pay 200baht per trip to and from the resort to Chiang Mai.

We did a day trip booked through the hotel to see elephants, raft in the jungle and do a zipline course through the trees which was a really fun day and definitely worth it. We also visited a nearby hot springs which is nice enough, but honestly if you've been to hot springs before you won't be missing much.

I would definitely recommend this hotel, as I am sure the mix-up we experienced was a one-off based on other reviews, and probably a mistake outside the owners control if external booking websites were involved.

Room Tip: All rooms were extremely nice, its a small resort so none are really in a better location than any o...

Third time at the resort and has got to be the most relaxing place in Chiang Mai.
Bit of a hiccup on arrival but a phone call to Pongsri sorted out the pickup and although booked the special suite, due to previous weeks rain was placed in a smaller room for a couple of nights.
Suite was excellent and the mods carried out to the personal garden by Peter are superb.
Nong was personal chauffeur for our weeks stay and was fantastic to be available and pleased to pass on his local knowledge in excellent English.
Pongsri always a great help and accompanied us on a visit to buy furniture to make sure we did not get a raw deal. Guess she is related to about everybody in the area and never makes a bad suggestion for visits, restaurants etc. Particularly good was the days cooking school and Doi Suthep visit.
Top as always was the perfect host at breakfast and later in the day made sure that we were topped up with beer from the honesty bar.
Should not really miss anyone out here as there is not one person on the staff who do not give everything to make the holiday special.
We certainly felt relaxed and destressed and will always come back when in Thailand.
Give yourself a treat and book this place.

Room Tip: All are good but Honeymoon Suite is exceptional

My wife and I recently stayed at the Oriental Siam resort. We spent five nights here and were booked into a deluxe double room. Our period in the resort was from 9th to 14th October 2013; this being the low season. We made our booking via agoda.com, you can of course book direct.

Email exchanges between us and the resort, prior to our arrival were dealt with promptly and thoroughly. We dealt with the owner of the resort - Pongsri Supasiri – for who detail matters both in print and in actual hosting once at the resort. We requested airport transport and experienced a seamless service (no charge), both from and to the airport by a wonderfully welcoming man (Mr Pom); in our experience Mr Pom was always smiling, always polite, always punctual and a very careful driver too!

We had a very warm welcome and were soon installed in our room. All photos of the room we booked and the resort itself are up to date and accurate. The room was spotlessly clean, and serviced it seems twice daily, am and pm. The air-con worked exactly as it should; quiet and effective. Water pressure varies a little BUT not a problem and plenty of hot water on demand.

The grounds are really very beautiful, extremely well maintained and promote, we found an abundance of tranquility. The person to thank for such lovely gardens is: Peter. So – ‘Thank you Peter, your dedication is wholly valued and gave us much joy and relaxation!!’

The pool is ample too swim in, was clean, well maintained and much welcome as temperatures rose.

Breakfasts were very enjoyable and really more than ample. There is the added value of taking breakfast each morning beside the well-kept and relaxing pond and small water fall. Serving staff were full of smiles and always a pleasure to come into contact with not only in the morning but at any other point in the day. In fact the staff are real gems to the resort; so welcoming, so full of smiles and so happy to serve. Evening meals are available locally – we found the food good. Be guided by staff at the resort. Day trips: a range is available we enjoyed several. Again be guided by the staff at the resort.

All staff at the resort proved consistent in our time there, being very, very good; in fact they were faultless. Of especial note are:

Mr Top – the kindest of hosts whose chief concern is that you have the best (and only the best) of times whilst in his care; we had a fabulous time, Mr Top – thank-you!!

Mr Nong – ditto sentiments for Mr Top above

Mr Pom – who became our personal chauffeur (fees apply, Mr Pom is an external driver to the resort: but he can be booked via the resort), Mr Pom took such very good care of us and shared much of his local knowledge which so added value to our time in areas we visited with Chiang Mai. ‘Thank you, Mr Pom!’

Pongsri Supasiri – the owner of the resort. Evidence abounds of the effort Pongsri has put into her resort and she is to be praised for achieving a great deal (over eight years I think from concept) but most of all to be thanked, in this review, by my wife and I for her being a caring and conscientious host who is extremely modest and pretty laid back too. Her laid backness (‘don’t worry….take your time….’) soon catches on and all adds to our being able to recommend Oriental Siam Resort.

So, all in all, we have no problem recommending Oriental Siam, Chiang Mai and would only add any questions you have, any worries no matter how small either prior to booking here or after booking or during your stay here: just ask any of the above people and they will do all they can to make you happy!

This was a very clean, safe and comfortable option. It is a little off the beaten track of the downtown core but the hotel staff is VERY accommodating with transportation due to the location. Either arrange to have them pick you up or have it written out in Thai directions back otherwise the locals have a lot of trouble finding this place.

The breakfast was filling, property was very well kept and got great nights sleep. There was even a very nice looking pool which we ran out of time to use.

I would definitely recommend this as a great option in the Chiang Mai area.

My wife and I were looking for a quiet relaxing spot to base our selves for 6 days to celebrate her birthday and for me to unwind from work. We could not have picked a more perfect spot, as the end of September is out of the peak season the hotel was not fully booked and I guess that added to the peace and personal service that we received. We stayed in the Orchid Suite as recommended by another contributor and perfect, roomy, comfortable and quiet and effective air conditioner.
Really everything has been said before, I booked directly with the hotel on line and had immediate confirmation back from Pongsri, met at the airport and greeted by all of the staff who had excellent English skills and could not have been more helpful.
The city was having it share of power failures during that time, and the staff had lanterns distributed in ultra quick time and emergency lighting has been fitted in key locations around the property and our room had one in the shower area and bedroom.
Yes a bit out of town if you want to do the pub crawl disco thing, but their family restaurant a 5 min stroll away and a massive new shopping Mall again within a ten minute walk from the resort.
Pongsri, Peter and staff have thoroughly earned the high ratings received.

Room Tip: All good the Orchid Suite hand to the lovely warm pool

Oriental Siam is a delightful find in, or rather outside of downtown Chiang Mai. The gardens were just heavenly. It is a hard to imagine such wonderful gardens tucked into a regular neighborhood, but then you see the reason why... Peter in his perpetual garden garb, well into his work!
When we arrived, I lost count of all the people who helped us to our room passing seven...the rooms and bathrooms were beautifully appointed. The mattresses made for great sleeping. The pool was a much appreciated feature, very clean. I got a great price for two rooms on agoda. SInce they weren't adjoining, we all stayed in one room as we like to keep an eye on the little ones, and still had lots and lots of room.
I really like that the management is training the locals who are learning as they go. Even with that, service was impeccable. The breakfast was very satisfying with plenty of variety, lovely fruit, eggs all freshly prepared and served. The kitchen was closed for dinner so we enjoyed takeout from a local restaurant. As soon as we arrived with any food, the staff would come running to bring us setups of plates, flatware and cups. Bottled water and beer were available free of charge.
We were able to get complimentary taxis as needed. The driver was kind enough to take me on a shopping trip which was fine on the short amount of time that I had, although the touristy shops were not my cup of tea. Some of the purveyors weren't locals and I prefer to buy from more mom and pop type places, but how can I complain in light of all the accommodating done for me.
The best part of all is that when it was time to check out for our late flight, Pongsri kindly let us use an empty suite for the spouse and little ones who were feeling a bit piqued and needed to nap. This kind of service you just cannot find, especially at these value prices. Just superb. What a treat!

My partner and I stayed at the Siam Oriental for three nights after a few days in Bangkok and a long journey, so it was amazing to arrive at such a picture perfect and quiet resort. Everyone at the Siam Oriental were very welcoming and really looked after us during our stay. The food was great, our room was ideal and the pool the ideal place to relax. My partner had booked the hotel as it was my birthday during our stay in Chiang Mai and we had a lovely meal there. The staff went all out and put up balloons and sang happy birthday, they made a real effort. During our stay we mostly relaxed by the pool and just walked down the road to a lovely restaurant for a bite to eat; the staff at the hotel will take you down on bikes the first time so you know where to go, not far. The fried fish is really good there but so was all of it. Overall an amazing few days at the Siam Oriental, it was just what we needed. I would highly recommend staying here.

Room Tip: All the rooms/huts looked amazing but are quite different and I am sure priced accordingly.
