My partner and I stayed at Moonhut a few nights early this year. We saw the reviews and pictures on trip advisor and couldn't wait to get here! We had booked AC1 and were far from disappointed when we saw how close it was to the water - much closer than we thought! This is one of the coolest experiences I have had at a hotel.
Most of the room was nice (however most time was spent on the balcony) and even from our bed we had an amazing view of the ocean. It also had good air con, which is a massive bonus in Thailand.
Some of the staff were very friendly, however some didn't seem too bothered with guests.
There was a massage place next to our room which was awesome and very relaxing being right on the water.
The bar/restaurant was great, nice breakfast and VERY nice cocktails, it was also very close to the water and was an awesome place to see the sunset and just chill out.
The only thing that we were not thrilled with was the bathroom in our room. When we travel we don't expect perfection (particularly places that are this cheap) but we were disappointed, considering how nice the rest of the place was. The bathroom had plumbing problems with the shower which was leaking from the pipe and left a lot of rust and yucky water on the floor which also gave off a bad smell. There was a sign on the back of the door which said not to put toilet paper in the toilet or you would have to pay to get it fixed and there was an open bin next to the toilet in which you were to put it - not something we're used to or could get used to.
Aside from the bathroom, everything else was excellent!
If Moonhut renovated this bathroom, upgraded the toilet so it flushed toilet paper and fixed the shower, I would have more than happily paid double to stay here.

Room tip: If the bathroom situation doesn't bother you - take AC1!!!!!

We stayed on the Family Bungalow and had a good stay for the money.

The bungalow itself was basic but clean & the location is amazing. We had breakfast there every day which was good and a number of other meals in their restaurant. The food is good but there are cheaper places of similar quality along the beach.

The owner has 3 or 4 dogs (it was difficult to tell which were with visitors) which are really cute but probably not the best place to stay if you don't like dogs.

We called Moonhut on the same day that we were going to stay there for 2 nights and they confirmed a room was available for us. We got to the bungalows and were showed the room. It was standard right near the beach so we confirmed that we wanted to stay. The price offered was 600 bhat. Upon negotiating the price (obviously this is Thailand so we negotiated everything), the woman talking to us was so incredibly rude that she said we could only stay for 1 night and basically forced us to leave. She wouldn't negotiate the price or even look at us after she initially yelled at us, said that we were cheap and also insulted us. I have never had a bad experience with Thai people in my life and this was exceptionally bad! Don't stay here there are much better places to stay like New Lapaz Villa and Resort right down the road this is better, cheaper and has great service (we stayed there instead)!

Room tip: Don't stay here there are much better options like New Lapaz Villa and Resort

We did not sleep there, location is nice, small beach, basic set up, but looks ok and make you feel welcome. We spend 3 evenings eating there. We are a very spoiled family with high expectations when it comes to food. If you mention to management you want to come over and have a good one, they will make sure the best fish is available.
basic menu is also good, we came unplanned and whatever we ordered was better and more than you will find in 90% of the restaurants in Europe.
they made us a 3 kg white snapper with tamarint and cashews, 1kg of very large prawns ans 1 kg of clams. I would fly back just to eat there again.

We arrived with hopes of a lovely week long stay here after reading all the reviews on here, however we were completely let down within minutes of arriving. The location itself is lovely, it is on the beach and the sea is beautiful, but unfortunately that's the only good aspect of this place.
The bungalow we stayed in was situated right next to the main road in/out, this wouldn't have been too bad but next to the road was the main bar/restaurant area which got pretty loud at night. Due to the bungalow walls being so thin we could hear everything, meaning we couldn't sleep properly at night and were woken up early in the morning. As well as this, it seemed that underneath the bungalow was an area where boats were stored- being woken up early in the morning to find someone shouting and pulling a boat out from underneath you isn't exactly peaceful.
The bungalows themselves can't really be classed as bungalows, they're simply a room with a bed and a room with a toilet/shower/basin. The bedding had stains on and the room was quite grubby. The shower wasn't in a cubicle, not unusual for Thailand, however the drain was tiny and on the opposite side of the room, so even after a two minute shower the entire bathroom was flooded. You are unable to flush toilet paper down the toilet, instead having to put it in an open top bin- the amount of bugs this attracts is disgusting, they crawl everywhere and it's just horrible. The bins should come with lids, or should at least be emptied more often.
The bungalow doesn't have a door, simply a large sliding glass window. This means the entire front of the bungalow is see-through and so anyone can stare in- due to the location of our bungalow, people were constantly walking past and thus we had to have the curtains constantly shut, not what you want when you rent a beach bungalow expecting to be able to look out at the view.
The beach has chairs and loungers on which were broken in places making it uncomfortable to sit on them properly. I found shattered glass on the beach which is so dangerous especially with small children around. The beach was also completely littered with cigarette ends.
The staff were relatively unhelpful, we asked at reception as to how to get a taxi into the local town, and the lady behind the desk simply pointed behind her and said get a bus. When I asked how often the bus came I was informed 'just wait for it'. The waiters in the restaurant seemed bored and couldn't really be bothered to do anything more than take your order/deliver your food without saying more than two or three words. The food itself was pretty basic, bland, and for what it was, very overpriced, especially in comparison to the other food available in Thailand which is normally delicious!
The bottles of water sold here are also overpriced, I'd recommend going to the local seven-eleven and stocking up where it's much cheaper!
You also have to pay for the wifi here.
Needless to say we only stayed two nights (as little as we could) before moving to other accommodation we had managed to find.
