First ever trip to Thailand so didn't want to take any chances with the accomodation. I was not let down. Apartment was lovely ( room 612 ), I booked direct with the Amari - I usually use Expedia, but actually got a bigger suite at a cheaper price by clicking on the offer with Tripadvisor that took me to the Amari site. The rooftop pool was fab, boy did it get hot up there!! The gym was great, even if to just pick up some addtional FREE bottled water. The little extras like cold towels was a thoughful bonus and great for colling down. Free HBO and other movies in the room. If you take your laptop they have free internet in the rooms via a LAN cable. Our room had 2 TV's, which was nice. The washing machine / Dryer is invaluable and the maid washed up for me daily, which was nice. Robes & slippers were handy to wear up to the pool. I must admit my heart sank when the taxi first turned into the backstreet that housed the hotel, but it seemed typical of the area, once I'd walked around a bit. The view from the rooms is not great, but we soon got used to it and just liked to sit on the balcony watching the daily life go by. 'Walking street' can be walked to, we did it a couple of times, just aim for the beach road and then walk street towards all the bright lights. The baht buses take liberties with their fares and still struggle to find this Amari ~ despite the front desk having a business card to give to drivers with directions in the local language!! We got fed up being charged between 200-300THB for a 10 min journey and just walked. The fare should be around only a 100THB I think, as this is what I have been paying on Koh chang and going much further!! Take advantage of the little Golf cart out the front, he will drive you as far as the main road and then if he can understand point you in the right direction. Be warned - no pavements on back streets, it can be quite intimidating at first, having all the bikes coming straight at you. Staff all friendly enough and English passable - though still had some diffculties. Jamesons pub does great food both Thai & western and very reasonable - their gren Thai curry was lovely ~ 150THB. If I ever come back to Pattaya - I would definately stay here again. Pattaya was something of a culture shock - not just for the seedy side, but I learnt to love it!!
Great big bed - very firm - nice bedding.
Take a trip to Nong Nooch gardens and have your photo done with a tiger cub!
