Review of Eastern Grand Palace Hotel

Have stayed at the Eastern Grand Palace a few times now.This time was,April (Son Kran) Had previously been staying in the centre at the Areca Hotel (see my review).Moved up to the Eastern for a few nights to get away from the pandemonium in Pattaya Central for the Son Kran and to have easy access to the motorway as Pattaya can come to a standstill over the Son Kran Festival
.The Hotel has over 300 rooms.I had a lovely room on the 11 th floor for 1,400 baht which you can negotiate on, if your staying for a week or more
The room itself was quite spacious,really nicely decorated and had a beautiful wooden floor with Air con, TV satelite,and a fabulous bed.
There is also a bar (The White Horse) in the Car Park.
They seem to have a lot of tour Groups from Korea and China etc,who depart during the day and you seem to have the Hotel facilities more or less to yourself (see my photos of the pool etc) beside the pool there is a very sparcely fitted Gym.
The Hotel is situated Half a km off Sukhumvit(3) in Soi Katalo,which is the opposite side of Sukhumvit from Pattaya.The Beach and Walking Street,etc being about 4-5 km away.If your a train enthusiast there is Pattaya Tai train station,well platform really, about 200 metre from the hotel which runs to Bangkok once a day (except weekends) which takes about 4 and a half hours and cost 31 baht.
The hotel is well away from the Pattaya thing,and quite suitable for families.You would however need transport as there is not a lot to do once your outside the hotel.There is however a 7/11 supermarket and Tesco Express about a 5 minute walk from the hotel and there is also a bigger Tesco and shopping mall about a km away which is not an easy walk as you have to cross Sukhumvit.

I got this voucher from playing games to stay in this hotel. At first, looking at the map on google, i had a really bad feeling about the hotel, that it is so far away from the city.
the moment i arrived the hotel, it was totally different. the atmosphere in the hotel is really good. make you feel so comfortable. the staff at the reception desk was very helpful, however, you won't expect much if you are checking in at the same time as tourist. this hotel serves a lot of chinese tourist that they can be very noisy, however, it was ok during day time, since all the tour are away for their activities
the room is very clean, has a bathtub with hot/cold water and wi-fi service
because i also have cars, it was easy for me to take my family to tourist attractions, such as, Alangkarn Theatre, Floating Market, Nongnuch Garden, Underwater World...etc, which only take about 5 - 10 mins driving.
advantage, this hotel was over my expectations. it is a good hotel for family travellers because it is close to the main road and because there was no pubs or girls to make distract the scenery for young children.
dis-advantage, if you are seeking for nightlife then this hotel is not suitable because it is too far away from all the lights and sounds and also if you dont have your own transportation, it might be a little expensive to go to anywhere in pattaya

i paid less than 50usd per night including breakfast. the room is spacious and clean with a view of the railways. the bathroom has a bathtub with ample hot/cold water. bath amenities are cheap which consists of a couple of teeny tiny soap, a shampoo and a bath liquid - what do you expect for 50 bucks?
the gym is located facing the pool and consists of three pieces of equipment. during my stay, not one guest made use of the gym nor the pool. it seems to be more of a decoration. another reason is that this hotel caters more for the bus load of tourists on package holidays. this makes these facilities less used.
the room has a mini fridge which contains 2 bottles of water - this is chargeable. the good thing is that there is a 7-11 nearby, so no problem to stock it with your own supplies. no in room safe, they do have safety boxes in the reception area.
the room electricity is activated by the room key. don't bother trying to remove the key from the magnetic key chain - they have properly wielded it shut. this might be a concern for those people planning to do some photo/video shoot as you will have to be stuck in your room.
free breakfast consists of porridge, ham, eggs, sausage, sauteed chicken, thai type of soup, breads, butter, jams, fresh fruits, rice, sauteed vegies.
now the main complaint about his place is the location. be warned you will most probably get charged 200bht to go to the city cente (one way) you can haggle it down if you have the skill .
this is one of those hotels that the bell travel service (bkk airport to pattaya) where they will not deliver you to your hotel's door. so unless you have a private transport catered in you will be disappointed.
btw, you will have a regular wake call around 7am courtesy of the train running parallel to the hotel. I was staying on the 10th floor.
