Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort Pattaya
Ranked #12 of 456 Hotels in Pattaya
Reviewed 22 December 2011

The Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort in North Pattaya is one of the most impressive hotels in Pattaya. There are some others from famous hotel chains that are beautiful as well but the Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort adds a nice theme to it. Thoughout the hotel, the rooms and the outside area with beautiful swimming pools, lazy river, etc you will find a kind of adventure/lost world theme. The level in which they implemented is such that it is not too much invading. Just beautiful.
Check-in was very effective and friendly staff explained a few things about the hotel while completing the check-in procedures.
Note that the hotel offers a kind of pre-paid card that you can use at their outlets. You need to purchase these during the first day at the hotel. When you use this the hotel will add a very generous amount of cash to the part you purchased. It surely is worth considering.
The hotel has several restaurants with either fast food, Brazilian, nice seafood BBQ, .... Around the the swimming pools the chairs have electronic devices that allow you to call for a waiter to take your order.
There is a nice bar on the ground level.
At the ground floor you will find a few rooms where children can play, a computer games rooms, a pool room, etc. Of course a fitness is also available.
If you need some other items, there is a small convenience store (FamilyMart) just across the street.

The rooms are beautiful and all have a sea view. They were very clean and well maintained (note that the hotel is still very new).
In our Premium Deluxe room we had a separate toilet room. The bath and shower were really nice designed and different from what you usually will find in hotels.
The room has a nice balcony from where you can enjoy the view over the sea and the sunset.

From the garden and pool area you have direct access to the beach.

In the neighbourhood you will find various attractions such as the complete wooden Sanctuary of Thruth.

Pattaya Naklua (Pattaya North) is a beautiful active area with many nice international and Thai restaurants. Although the hotel has many restaurants itself there are others in the area to try as well. Right next to the hotel is the Rim Talay restaurant that serves Thai, seafood and international dishes. I liked the seafood. They even have tables on the beach. Further in North Pattaya you can find really good seafood at Shell Tangkay or Mum Aroy. The last one is found at the end of Naklua road in the North.
Close to the famous roundabout you can find La Baquette, the French Bakery. They have beautiful cakes and bread.

We transferred from another good Pattaya hotel to the Centara, for seven nights. We used a local taxi for the two mile trip. Not entirely pleased when the concierge waved us and our luggage away from the entrance on arrival, to make way for the limo behind! Not an auspicious start!

Thai King’s birthday weekend, so place was a zoo – 550 rooms and 1500 guests. Including a 5 story blow up King Kong scaling the towers. Picture below. Tasteful or what?

Unfortunately things went down from there – I will spare you the details. The hotel listened to my issues and made amends – by the end of our stay we were very happy guests. That’s good customer service! :-)

The grounds are a water park, with slides and a lazy river – think of a small Disney. When the kids went home after the weekend, we got to play too! Don’t be put off, if you have kids it is heaven (for them) – if not, the surroundings and various pools are still excellent. Helped to a great extent by an “Adults Only” infinity pool above the beach. Yes!!

The hotel claims 200 meters of beach – that’s true, but it is narrow and the traders are a menace – no peace at all. I counted 14 vendors on one 100 yd stretch at one point. Lots of shade around the various pool areas and a “restricted smoking” policy – good!

Big bummer is the truly dreadful state of the loungers – old, tatty and uncomfortable. Clearly left over from the rebuild two years ago. Beach towels are great AND two meters long! Pity you have to fight to get a second one :-(

If you upgrade to club, you get a private lounge, snacks and drinks and free WiFi – pricey, but great facility. If you assume that “WiFi in room” (on list of room facilities) means, as you might expect at these prices, “free WiFi”, then prepare for a shock - £12 per day! (More for a week than my annual bill!) This was explained, and I now understand the hotel’s dilemma, but this is not a sustainable policy in a hotel of this class – not when it’s free in McDonalds!

We ate a few times in the hotel in the evening. Seafood buffet was good, if expensive. Ginger & Lime – Thai food - was excellent, I thought, and better value. I did wonder about the advisability of the Transvestite show in the buffet restaurant with a hotel full of kids, however.

Would I go back? Well, the hotel is just short of excellent – unusable beach and over casual pool staff were main niggles. Service is generally first class and the rooms (we had three) were superb. The only issue is Pattaya itself – it always was a bit seedy. Now it seems to be getting worse – maybe that’s just me. I don’t think we will choose Pattaya again, but the hotel, in another city would be great!

Room Tip: All rooms are "sea view". If you pay for premium rooms all you really get is a higher flo...

My daughter just love it! That's the best hotel for my kid so far. Foods are good and service friendly. It's good to stay at the club mirage.
Surely will come back again.

We stayed in Grand Mirage for one night during trip to Thailand. Having read all the previous reviews prior to arriving at the hotel, I was a little apprehensive about the Hotel. However, these were quickly dispelled upon arrival - the hotel and the grounds are cleverly designed to give a great resort feeling.
Once inside the hotel you do not feel that you are in Pattaya. The pool, hotel, family atmosphere and sea view is completely different from the normal hustle bustle of Pattaya city hotels (even the best 5* hotels). A very different fun hotel, great water park and impressive beach front location.
The lazy river which seems to go on forever and takes you through caves and waterfalls, the slides and the diving rocks.Infinity Pool overlooking the ocean, was relaxing and great to the see sunset in the evening.
We had booked a deluxe ocean view room. The view from the room was amazing (check pics attach). One thing that I did not like about their room was bathroom's "Door" is a CURTAIN, very insecure indeed.
Overall a good property and worth one day visit if going to Pattaya.

Room Tip: Take ocean view room. Go all out for the waterpark

I have stayed all over Thailand many times over the past decade, and this is the only resort where the staff haven't greeted, smiled and generally anything lovely associated with Thai people was absent here- abrupt staff in the restaurants, pool & reception- surely it couldn't have been a bad day for everyone on staff? Facilities fantastic, floors in rooms filthy, fee for requesting use of extra crockery strange..

Our family usually goes for the small, independent, boutique-y style but much to our surprise, the Centara Mirage was great. Make no mistake, it's big but because of the lay-out of the gardens and pool, it doesn't seem like it and it is absolutely possible to find a quiet spot. The kids enjoyed the slides and the Lazy River and the resort has a very nice little beach which is incredibly quiet, this being Pattaya. The rooms are very well-appointed and designed with breathtaking views over the oceans. The only time we felt the crowd was at breakfast and it was a rowdy affair. Too many people, a lack of tables, bad service and greasy, undercooked fare. This did put a damper on the experience but all-in-all it made for a fun and enjoyable extended weekend stay and we will go again.

this hotel is most probably 2-3 years old, but everything inside the hotel looks so outdated. The rate 9000Baht for a delux room during the King's Birthday long weekend is way over charged. Beside the pools which the kids will love, there is absolutely nothing else worth rating. The room is small, the structure of the bathroom inside the room closure with only a curtain looks cheap. I would never rate it a 5 star hotels, most probably 3.5 star as a family hotel. The so called "private beach" is dirty and small, full of street vendors.

With this room rate, there are tons of options in Pattaya. Sheraton was only 5000 Baht, and Hilton was only 7000 Baht over the King's birthday weekend.

Services at check in and out is so so, no smiles. When I left the room to go dinner, I passed by the cleaning lady, and I told her nicely if I can have couple more pillows....she said she is very busy now, will take care of that later. Totally understandable, as she has to clean all the rooms on that floor all by herself. But she shoud not complain to her customer that she was very busy....not so professional.

Will I return? Most probably not

Room Tip: try Hilton or Sheraton...they are the true 5 stars in Pattaya
