There has been a lot of misleading information and inaccurate reviews on this hotel.
1) Although described as a gay hotel the receptionist was a young lady with limited English and a not particularly welcoming manner. The review by Chgoswatcher is absolutely right.
2) The staff are not well trained. For example we asked the receptionist on our first morning for towels to take to the beach. He said we could take our room towels - not very hygenic. Eventually one of the breakfast staff (who were gay) said we could take pool towels.
3) Without warning they had stopped the free mini-bar and the all day breakfast (although the finishing time of 12 noon was not bad).
4) The pool did not appear to be clean, and it is very small.
5) Our room's shower did not have a curtain so that water went all over the floor. There was no drain in the floor area. We eventually got one fitted during our first full day.
6) There were persistent problems with mosquitos. We had to ask for mosquito spray every evening. They seemed to have only one can and it ran out on our last evening.

The descriptions give the impression that this is a small hotel with 5 star facilities. This used to be the Ikon hotel and has been given a makeover but the finish is not to a high standard and attention to detail is lacking. For example there were no reading lamps by the bed and there was no way of switching off the main light without getting out of bed. The room looked impressive in the photos but is actually rather plain and lacking atmosphere because it is painted entirely in white. Furnishings are not of high quality throughout the hotel. Breakfast was adequate but no more. Our room (on the ground floor) had a damp smell.

We had a good rate through hotels.com which made it appear to be good value, but the problems made our stay less than satisfactory.

Not sure if Rome Boutique Hotel has undergone a sudden change or not, but checking in (24 January, 2013) for a 3 night stay I was followed by a family with 2 young children. Definitely a surprise for a hotel promoting itself as 100% gay. The young woman that showed me to my room also advised that the mini-bar, previously marketed as free and included in the room rate was, in fact, not free.

•Electronic entry-key-card system and DVD player in every room....Not in my double deluxe room.

When I inquired of the front desk, the same young lady that showed me my room, whether the hotel had just undergone management changes, she did not seem to know the answer. When I outright asked if this was a gay hotel, she smiled and said "No, not a gay hotel."

I had to do a double take and make sure I was not at the wrong hotel, that by some freak of science had all of my check-in and personal information when I arrived. Nope. Same Rome Boutique Hotel that is marketed here, on a number of other gay accommdation hotel sites and in the local Thai GLBT publications such as Out, Max and Thai Puan.

This type of bait and switch marketing taking advantage of GLBT travellers who wish to patronize GLBT businesses is shameful. If the hotel has changed it management, it should notify those already booked of such a change so that other arrangements can be made.

Rome Boutique Hotel in Pattaya is NOT a gay hotel. Furthermore, the way the young woman somewhat guiggled and looked away when asked the question, it has not even made this traveller feel it is even gay-friendly.

I can only imagine what the balance of my paid-for visit will surprise me with.

Love this place and it will be one of our regular choices for accommodations and relaxation in Pattaya. Superb service, rooms and food! We enjoy the breakfast "in bed" as they also seve it in our room...what a nice treat and I do not know any other boutique hotel offering such a fine service option. Another great benefit we like is the free mini bar as most hotels charge a lot of money for the drink from the mini bar and at Rome Hotel it is FREE and they restock the bar every day. Lovely hotel and highly recommendable.

Room Tip: Deluxe room .... Including iPod docking station, breakfast and minibar!

Stayed in this hotel for 1 night, last week and both myself and my partner were blown away by what we found there !
From the moment we closed the door separating the stunningly decorated Lobby & 'Caesar's Restaurant-Lounge Bar' area from the busy outside world, we knew we were in a different world.
Total peace & quiet 'attacked' us and before we knew it, the very pleasant receptionist had us checked-in (all prepared & ready; all I had to do was sign at the famous bottom !) and the next thing we knew was that we were sitting at the edge of a gorgeous pool, complete with waterfall; Laser-Lights twinkling around us - in combination with terrific & relaxing background tunes, while sipping the complimentary 'Welcome Drink'. I even remember thinking "This is how ALL hotel should be", but we know they're not . . . .
After that relax, complete with refreshing cold towels, we were escorted to our room, which also came as a bog surprise: lovely appointments; great large Bathroom with roomy shower area.
The large and very comfortable bed, facing a very large Flat-Screen TV; the mini-bar, Room-Safe & even the House-Coats & Slippers came as welcome surprises and was something we would have expected in much more pricey rooms . . . .
We really enjoyed our dinner there (very romantic !) and our breakfast the next morning: it was obvious that the quality of the ingredients was as superb as the level of the chef cooking it ! Superb ! !
A 1 hour massage (Thai) the next morning was possibly the best ever massage experience ever (The chap's name was "Ton" and I can highly recommend him) - and the positive effects of this stayed with me the entire rest of the day ! !
This is a place we will call "home" whenever we visit Pattaya !

Room Tip: In fact; we were given a little tour of the place and I can honestly say that any room in this hotel...
