I stayed in Areca Lodge for 3 days during Christmas 2011. I stayed in a Super Deluxe room, in the Evergreen wing, on the top (6th) floor.
I found the room to be comfortably appointed, very clean and the air conditioning worked well with little noise (to my ear anyway). Please note the air conditioning does not run when you remove your security keycard. The bed was huge, a little hard for some, but perfect for me. Had a small balcony with a couple of chairs, with the outlook over the pool between the Evergreen and Corona (I think) buildings. I found the light in the room excellent (and excellent curtains to block light when required), with an excellent amount of privacy. I did not find noise to be an issue, with the exception of occasional banging doors (which is to be expected at this level of accomodation).
The minibar is fully stocked, but I had nothing but water, of which none appears to be comlimentary, but at 30baht per bottle, is still cheap as by western standards. With a Familymart almost litterally next door, I doubt this is an issue to anyone anyway.
Although not tested, I was told the room is equiped with ethernet (cabled) internet access. I am not sure if its charged or complimentary. I was told there is wifi access in the lobby only, again not tested, nor known if charged. There are 2 pay per use PC for internet in the lobby, coin activated at 10baht/10minutes. There is a flat screen TV in the room, with electronic safe also.
The bathroom was large enough, quite clean, with a combined bath/shower. Personally I do not like this arrangement, but it suits fine for once/twice a day warm/hot shower. Unlike LK Renaissance, it is easy to climb into (Ie its not too tall!). Although the design seems to allow water to easily find its way to the bathroom floor. Towelling was sufficient for 2 people.
The location is excellent, on Soi Dianna. Directly accross the road is Mr T Taxi office to book airport or other personal transport requirements. The locality includes many bars, gogo bars, eateries, massage parlours and Megabreak pool all within a minute walk. The hotel arrangement at first is a little confusing, as the checkin for Areca and Corona buildings are at the front of the building, whereas Evergreen checkin is actually at the back (at the Evergreen building!). Some have mentioned the long walk from Evergreen to Areca (Entrance), however it is a minute or so at worst, so not far at all.
Buffet breakfast was included in my rate. The breakfast location is pleasant - near the pool, but limited selection of food. Quality is fine for me, Im not particularly fussy about breakfast.
The staff seemed generally friendly. I will note to those who have interest, there is a 300baht fee for an additional guest (after the first guest). I had 1 additional guest stay for a few hours for a meal, but despite my quiet protest to the desk staff, all the same was still charged.Any visitor is required to surrender ID to the front desk.
Overall a fine stay, for a reasonable price. I think I received good value, and will stay again. Previously I have stayed and reviewed LK Renaissance and Page 10, all in the same area. Of course all 3 for convenience are excellent, however overall I enjoyed my stay at Areca the best, and it did seem to provide best value.
