“So many problems, hotel unwilling or unable to fix them”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 September 2010

I live nearby but my internet was out so I needed a place with a reliable internet connection to work from. A friend recommended the Areca lodge. I arrived at 7:45 PM and explained my situation to the front desk staff. I wanted to check out the room and wireless connection but the front desk said that wasn't possible in the evening. She seemed to understand the situation and gave me a room on the 4th floor, which I assume is the old building because it isn't very nice and is fairly worn. I wasted 20 minutes determining all three wireless routers on the 4th floor weren't working. The front desk staff were rude and insisted the problem was with my computer (it wasn't and they never bothered to fix the routers during my two day stay). For better or worse I checked a 5th floor router and discovered it worked and ended up moving to the 5th floor. The next day the front staff insisted the room was already booked and I had to change rooms which I did. The internet was fine in the new room but the thermostat was broken and the air con would never turn off. Staff couldn't/wouldn't understand the problem and it took 3 hours and 2 replacement thermostats to fix it. What a waste of time. BTW, I did speak with the head manager about the internet issue, he was smily and apologetic but I don't think he even understands the problem. If your only there for fun, take your chances but if you expect any kind of reliablility forget it. Also I paid the rack rate of 1300 baht which I think is pretty high for the hotel in low season, there are lots of better hotels for less nearby. On the positive side, the breakfast was very good.

I booked this hotel through Agoda because of the great reviews and reasonable price. The contents of the room matched the newer section of the hotel, but when I checked in the staff would only put me in the older section. When I showed them the description on Agoda they admitted the error, but said it was Agoda's fault for putting up the wrong description, and refused to do anything more about the matter. When I called Agoda, they said the hotel uploads the description directly into their database. I checked online and sure enough, the hotel had corrected the description. But they refused to do anything about my booking. Pretty lame and dishonest all around. The old section is very overpriced for what you get. Walk down the street and you can do much better for the offered price. I'm not sure why they treated me so poorly. I looked back on Agoda and under the Hotel Policy and saw this note: "Please note that this hotel operates exclusive contracts with other vendors to service specific markets and thus these rates do not apply to nationals of Algeria, Bahrain, China, Egypt, India, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen. We apologize for the inconvenience." I am Chinese. Maybe that has something to do with it.

This is my first time traveling to pattaya...

after doing some research from a lot of hotel, finally i choose Areca lodge, because of the review that i read and reasonable price.

And so i arrived there, the check in procedure is so fast!!! maybe about just 2 minutes, i already got my room number. I booked for room at evergreen building, it's far on the back part of the hotel, so they offer free tuk-tuk that can bring all of your luggage there.

The service is good, although a little stiff and less smile. But overall i satisfied with the service.

The pool area is ok, there is two pool and both of them is nice.

The breakfast is ok, i wish for more variety of the food.

The location of the hotel is so good, the shopping mall, beach area and everything is around your walking area. So the location is great.

I will stay here again when i get back to Pattaya.

Great value for money hotel. Stayed for 4 nights and were made welcome throughout.Had rooms at the back which were cheaper but no view, though they were large and clean. It is about a 10 minute walk to beach, but i like the location,as theres lots of bars and restaurants. There are 2 large swimming pools, sauna, massage and gym, nice outside bar in forecourt. Buffet breakfast was fine, only had it once due to late nights.Have stayed in many hotels in pattaya over 15 years, this for the price beats them all..will be back very soon.

This will be third time in 4 years, my wife & I have stopped at this hotel. We stopped in the Corana part of the hotel. Although little has been done to upgrade this part of the hotel the 1200 baht we paid per night still represented value for money. The location of the Arena & the breakfast supplied within tariff was excellent.
Because of stiff competition, there are plenty of good, reasonably priced eating places in Pattaya close to the Areca. The ones I would recommend are.... Kiss For Thai food & snacks, The Green Bottle in Soi Diana for the pork chops & Fillet steak with a green pepper sauce for 160 Baht which includes a visit to the simple but adequate sald bar & the promotion offer of two large bottles of Chang for 90 baht cannot be bad. The 199 baht bar b q at the Captains Table in Soi 13 opposite the Sportsman was exceptional value for money... shame they only have it once a week on Saturday evening. The 120 baht, very large glass of white wine , at least 250 ml tasted quite nice.. so says the wife. The food hall at the lower ground floor of Central Festival sopping centre was also very good.

The lodge is in fact three hotels in a complex. The tower, Corona and April. We stayed in the Corona and found the room always very clean although dated. The staff was the best I have ever experienced. ANON who worked on reception gave some good advice on trips and was pleasant to talk to.
The breakfast was excellent with a mix of traditional British and many exotic fruit.
The April section is the newest and looked much better because of that.
My top tip is use the laundry service. Turn round is 24 hours at minimal cost. So nice to come home with a suitcase full of clean and pressed clothes!
There as a bar outside on the driveway, this was good for a lifting drink before going out or a nightcap sometimes up to 3am. It seems they would stay open whilst ever anyone wanted a drink.
Do’s – Laundry, pedicure or manicure on the beach, flight of the Gibbon rainforest trip, coral Island trip book in the hotel a saving of over 1000 Baht (800 in hotel and 2000 at the beach) and the professional go kart track. Best bar with sensible friendly staff ‘don’t tell mama’ on walking street.
Don’ts – The submarine trip. Waste of time and money with staff that was so much under pressure they lost the land of smiles!
