We own a small hotel in Bangkok (Old Bangkok Inn) so we'd like to think we know a thing or two about how to run a hotel, as well as the level of service that is expected for hotels in this price range (+5,000 baht for a standard room)
I stopped coming to Pattaya about 10-15 years ago. Pattaya to most Thais is recognized as being a second-rate beach resort that is tainted by loud bars, rude hawkers and dirty beaches. But the Sheraton Pattaya Resort really started to change my perspective about Pattaya!
Location: The Sheraton Pattaya Resort is located in what I deem to be Pattaya's must exclusive and picturesque location - it is perked on a hill top approximately 2 kms from Pattaya's north road. Being located here means that the hotel is attached directly to the beach, the resort is secluded and quiet and many of the rooms have access to beautiful sea view from an elevated vantage point. The cost however is you are far from just about anything and you will require to take transportation to visit shops and restaurants.
Service: The service is top notch the moment you step into the lobby where you will be greeted with a cold towel and a lemongrass drink. I was only there for one night, but yet many of the staff knew my name! The staff will help you with everything from booking restaurants to planning activities for your family. I had asked for information concerning go-kart tracks in the area at 1am, and by 8am they had all the information ready for me.
Rooms: The rooms are very well kept and well appointed, if you get a standard room do ask for rooms on the 3rd and 4th floor, so you will have unobstructed views of the sea. If you get a sea-view room, get ones that are nearest to the sea, so that you can have direct access to the beach.
You should also be aware that the resort is on a slope, so if you tire easily or have trouble walking make sure you tell the staff so they can have a complimentary golf-cart on standby for you.
Summary: The Sheraton Pattaya Resort is one of the most expensive hotels in the resort-city, but I think if you're looking for a little more privacy, a more secluded location and superior service then its worth the extra 20-30USD per night. However, if you do not mind the buzz in Pattaya city, don't mind not being connected to the beach and want to save some money then the Dusit Thani and Amari Orchid might be a better choice.
