We stayed here for 2 nights as part of a tour of Southern Vietnam (with our own driver and guide). Arrived after a long journey from Ho Chi Minh City (9 million people and 6 million motorbikes!) along roads lined with tea and coffee plantations where buses simply drove on whichever side of the white line was quickest! Dalat was pretty chilly by late afternoon - but what a lovely setting for a city. Founded in 1893 and would, today, still not look out of place in Central Europe. Not a joke: pack a fleece to wear in the evenings - it is cold. (the night market was full of heavy jackets, hats, scarves and even ear muffs!) Our room in the Saigon Dalat was beautifully furnished, with inlaid wooden flooring. Automatic wifi (so no need for a password) was an added bonus. It might sound strange, but a calico laundry bag is well worth purchasing as you leave - the gold embroidery is beautiful. Cannot comment on "Value" as this hotel was included in our tour price. The day we arrived was the 83rd Anniversary of the formation of Vietnam's Communist Party plus the 120th Anniversary of the founding of Dalat. So, two reasons for the locals to celebrate. We walked the 10 or 15 min to the City centre where there were crowds of people and, on a large stage, lots of dancing and strident celebratory singing (a couple of hours later, all trace had been removed!). Not quite sure that this was the future Ho Chi Minh envisaged....smart phones and ipads everywhere with no obvious internet regulation (certainly not with regard to foreign news sites anyway). None of the 3am phone calls (no one at the other end) or badly-executed "tailings" we experienced in the former USSR in the early 1980's are evident here but, no doubt, surveillance of foreigners does exits. We ate in the night market on our first night - did the job but nothing special. On the second night we ate at the Art Cafe. Superb (see separate review).
