“one of the best meals in Vietnam”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2013

We stopped here after visiting crazy house because of all the good reviews we had read. We were not disappointed. They gave us a huge pot of tea for free, the staff is very nice (offered to take pictures of us), owner speaks perfect English and is willing to answer any questions. The menu is large and very cheap. We ordered the tofu fried in lemongrass, Indian rice in a clay pot, and spring rolls. All were fantastic. Probably the best Indian flavors I've had since leaving the states, and that was the only Indian dish on their menu. Cute decorated place, with three black birds out front that make some interesting calls. Highly recommend this restaurant when visiting Dalat. Crazy house is a must do as well, directly down the street.

“Delicious”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 May 2013

This restaurant is on the same street as the Crazy House, so we made a point to stop in. The grounds of the restaurant are really nice and very pretty and inviting. A huge pot of tea was given to us as soon as we were seated, and the owner came to take our order. He speaks perfect English, my guess is he spent some significant time in the US or Canada. He was really friendly and helpful; when I ordered pho he told me it wasn't their specialty and suggested another soup on the menu that was just phenomenal. We also ordered chili lemongrass tofu and spring rolls. Everything was really delicious; it was one of our favorite meals in all of Vietnam.

“Absolutely fantastic”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 May 2013

We were in Dalat for about four days and ended up spending two nights eating at Nhat Lien. After nearly three weeks of street food and non-tourist eateries only frequented by locals Nhat Lien was a welcome reprieve.

Whilst we are not a vegetarian family, Nhat Lien did not disappoint. The atmosphere was welcoming, calming, clean and quite upmarket for Vietnam. Despite the upmarket environment in a quieter street however (same street at Crazy House) the prices were very cheap and the selection of food fantastic.

Beware the large serves of some dishes when ordering though to avoid over-ordering. Instead take guidance from the staff as to the amount of food required and if you're still hungry later, just add more dishes later then. Another plus was that Nhat Lien has fresh squeezed orange juice. Until I saw that on the drinks section of the menu, I hadn't even realised I'd missed it (I'm usually a beer drinker with meals). Cue the refreshing starter of orange juice after a long day of travel before launching into a wonderful meal - just what the doctor ordered.

Dedicated meat eaters need not be worried as there was a small selection of meat dishes available also and chances are Nhat Lien they would be willing to add meat to a normally vegetarian dish anyway. Chances are you won't miss the meat though. I find many vegetarian restaurants to be quite boring and largely Indian influenced. This is not the case with Nhat Lien at all. The food was incredibly I vibrant with fantastic SE Asian flavours. The menu is not strictly Vietnamese either with the odd Thai and Malaysian influence thrown in.

In short, you can't go wrong with Nhat Lien both because of the food and the oasis of calm that it provides from the hustle and bustle of Vietnam.

“Good local cuisine”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 April 2013

We enjoyed the atmosphere at Nhat Lien and the varied menu, and prompt service. We tried a few dishes and were not disappointed. The flavors were distinctive and delicate, and the portions were a good size.
