“The kids were rapt!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 September 2010

I decided to book rooms at the Crazy House for my family (me, hubby, 2 young kids) and my mother-in-law after reading about in the Lonely Planet and looking at photos on the internet. It was relatively expensive but the atmosphere was superb and so unique - fulfilling my childhood fantasy of living inside a hollow tree (our room, the Tiger room, was like that!). We were there for 3 nights and my kids would have happily stayed a week without ever leaving the hotel grounds! The staff were wonderful and hooked us up with a fantastic tour guide who we employed for 3 days to take us wherever ... so we explored the countryside in comfort, learned heaps and had some terrific experiences. The Crazy House is open as an attraction during the day which means people would rattle on our doors if we were there after opening time, but most of the day we were away so it wasn't too much of a problem. Staying here was fantastic and we have already picked the room we'd like to stay in next time ...

This fantastical place is like a journey into the world of Alice and Wonderland. Designed by a woman artist who hangs around the grounds, it is one of wonder. The artist is also allegedly the rebel niece of some nasty vietnamese political leader. Friendly staff who could speak English. Great market and local vietnamense beer at the market in the village a short walk away. There are many locals offereing tours of the area on scooters and they speak English. We did that too & it was great.

we choose the hotel for fun, but to our disappointment, the room just has bed and a bathroom, nothing else, No TV, No Fridge, No Internet. Plus, there is no restaurant in the hotel. We met strong storm in Dalat, and it's not convenient to go outside for meal. There is two or three restaurant in the lane, but they did not have English menu, so not easy to have order. We have to take taxi to the Market for meal
The hotel design is funny and interesting, but living is not comfortable. The bed is a bit small since my friend is tall
But the staff is very friendly and helped a lot
Visiting the hotel is interesting, but not good for staying

Based on a freinds recommendation who viewed the Guesthouse as something one needed to see in life I decided to add it to my list of things to do if I ever was near it. After a medical convention in Hua Hin Thailand I devided t ogive it a chance.
It kind of remoinded me of a Gaude type of development from Barcelonea. Defiantely Unique and worth seeing but not for staying the night .
The food and service was non existent. More Tourists then one would like to see..My advise go see it but dont stay there..

I was a tourist visitor and found the Hang Nga Guesthouse to be fascinating and well worth a visit.... as a visitor. I was NOT a guest but would like to have been. It was fully booked for honeymooners when we were there. As for not having access to tours, they are a part of the City Tour of Dalat. Transport to Nha Trang or anywhere in Viet Nam is always easy with frequent buses that climb the long hills from the coast.
This report is only to counter the negative one about a guest who was unhappy with the place... would I recommend a VISIT? Certainly!

We actually stayed here with our four young kids in December 2000. They loved it and so did we! So many hotels these days are the same wherever you go - bu this is truly unique. It doesn't claim to be 5 star, but it's fun and different!

After going to see the Crazy House one afternoon we decided to book in to one of the rooms as a treat for my birthday!
The house itself is pretty impressive with little bridges and oddly shaped corridors all linking together like a mini maze.... more is being built so would like to see it again in a year or so.
Rooms range from $35 to $65 depending on which type you go for.
Do not stay at this hotel if you want a relaxing time because you will not get one! There are tourists swarming the place all day (and we were there in low season)! They come right up to your door so you have no privacy during the day!
Service isn't brilliant either because of the hoards of tourists!
However on the upside this place is fun and quirky and of everywhere we have ever stayed this is the place we will be talking about in 10 years just because it is so different! The rooms are all themed like 'giraffe room'! They are like being in mini caves with litte mini chairs and tables with really comfortable beds and mirrors on the ceiling. At night the main doors are locked so you can sit in the little courtyard which is lit up by coloured spider web shaped lights and have a quiet drink.... If you are brave you can walk about the building but it is scary at night, partly because it looks like a haunted house and partly because there are a few steep stairs and high bridges with low sides... the whole place wouldn't pass health and safety regulations in the UK!
