“Hotel like a guesthouse!”
Reviewed 29 July 2013 via mobile

I was disappointed with Dalat from the start so this hasn't helped my review of the Thien An Hotel. The family that run the hotel were amazing, very welcoming and at tentative throughout the entire stay. Problem is I wouldn't class this as a hotel, it's more a guest house. Breakfast is serviced in the kitchen on a big table and felt like I was invading the owners private space. After reading so many good reviews about the breakfast, I would only class the breakfast as ok. It included a choice of eggs with a decent spread on the table, the usual offerings at hotels in Vietnam.

We stayed here for 3 nights and can only thoroughly recommend others to stay here.

The room was simple, yet comfortable and clean and you were served a pleasant breakfast around a communal table, which allows you to chat with other travellers.

The hotel organised a lovely day tour for us (including elephant ride) and we also made the most of the free bikes, but be warned that Dalat is hilly! Try to head to the market for dinner to really see how the locals go about their evening activities.

I have lived in Vietnam for several months. We stayed at the Thien An with 4 adults and three very active children. The manager and his son were very accommodating and fluent in English. They provided us with extra rain gear(badly needed) and directions to some of the best Vietnamese food for the price in Dalat. The rooms were very, very, clean and the showers were powerful with plenty of hot water. We could not have asked for a better location or better place to sleep. To the people who thought the front family room was noisy, we found it fine. That is Vietnam. Loved this place.

This was a good hotel, and we'd go back again, but it wasn't outstanding. The room we had was simple and comfortable, the bathroom was clean, and the staff were pretty good. As others have pointed out, breakfast was great- a table filled with fruit, bread, spreads, eggs cooked to order and fresh coffee and juice. Our only problem was that from our room we could hear pretty much every footstep in the hallway and on the staircase (all rooms were along this central hall, so I imagine this was the case for most). There was a young family staying in the hotel when we were, and we were awoken on our first morning at 6 when the kids started playing in the hallway. The acoustics are such that even when the kids were shushed by someone, we could still hear them whispering. I also found it weird that there was no top sheet on the bed, just a comforter, which had some old stains on it- it seemed clean, but would have been nicer to have had a sheet between us and the blanket. The hotel is a little out of the way which means about a 10 minute walk into town, which was no big deal for us. On our last morning we had an early bus and the father called the bus company to get them to come pick us up (we had been planning to take a taxi), so that was nice.

Room Tip: We were in 303, which was nice and clean, but loud from the hallway. Might be better to ask for a ro...

All I want as a traveler is a reasonably priced room that is comfortable and clean. At $25 we got more than we wanted.
Really friendly owners/staff, good room and nicest breakfast we have had all week!
I looked forward to the breakfast every morning.
10 minutes walk out if town was no real hassle and we explored the town on foot but bicycles and motorbikes are available.
Good information from staff who on arrival have us a map and showed us where we were in relation to the towns attractions. (Sounds basic but not many places do that).
Also can arrange tours with no pressure which is always good.
Overall we loved it here.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Thien An Hotel. The rooms were clean and everything worked etc. We even got a choice between 2 rooms which meant we ended up getting a room with a view! The breakfast was great with a big choice offered including vegemite!!!!

We cannot speak more highly about the staff. From what we understand it is a family run hotel. The father and son were in particular so very helpful. We were a little disorganised with tour and leaving bus arrangements. The companies were not replying to our emails so the staff rang the companies for us instead and everything was organised. Really noticing the difference good customer service makes to your stay given our current hotel is terrible.

Just note that the Thien An Hotel is a little out from the main centre however they do provide free bicycles or alternatively its not too far to walk. It didn't end up being much of an issue for us. All in all would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: We chose a room on the 4th floor which had a view unlike the room also offered on the 2nd floor. Not...

Based on 10 years of my life in Vietnam, I can say, in Dalat, there would be no better hotel for foreign budget travellers on the room rate unless you speak Vietnamese well.

You can find cheaper hotels in Dalat, but the staffs can't speak English nor professional. So if you dint speak Vietnamese, you may fall into some troubles in the locals focused hotels.

Yet. what I felt from Thien An was that the staffs are very proud of what they are doing and truly care about guests from the bottom of their hearts.

I will definitely consider to stay in this hotel again for the next trip.
