Owner description: The Red DragonNamed and designed after an authentic Chinese junk, the original Red Dragon plied the rivers, seas and harbours of the Far East, from Singapore to northern China. Our Red Dragon is complete with five deluxe cabins and designed to resonate with superior class and grandeur. Larger than The Prince and Princess it is still small enough to get up close to the natural wonders, pocket lagoons and small fishing communities of Halong and Bai Tu Long bays.

“Great way to see one of the natural wonders of the world!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 July 2012

Booked a 2 days/ 1 night cruise on the Red Dragon II and loved it! Yes, it is true as they say, the actual cruise is about 24 hours (from 12 noon to next day 12 noon), and the ride to get there is about 4 long hours each way - but it is just so totally worth it! The Halong Bay area is gorgeous, and the Red Dragon is a great way to experience it.

The boat itself takes about 10-12 people, and we had a great time with our fellow travellers. The food is amazing - all fresh seafood with lots and lots to taste and eat. The first day we spent on the boat, and kayaking and swimming in a beautiful bay in the afternoon. The second day we visited the floating village - amazing! Our guide was a local guy - which was nice. The cabins are small (of course - its on a boat!), but has airconditioning, large windows (that opens and) provide great views, and there is an ensuite bathroom. So you can even enjoy the views of Halong Bay passing even while in the shower :)

For us - 24 hours was enough - but if you want more - just book the 3 day cruise. And just so you know; all the boats in Halong Bay are now white - not the beautiful brown and reds and so on you see in all the pictures. For some reason the authorities decided white was better. I kind of diagree. But don´t let that put you off. The Halong Bay cruise on the "white" Red Dragon is still a treat.

“Awesome Experience away from the crowds!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 June 2012

Just returned from an incredible experience on the Red Dragon II (which is now painted white). Everything was wonderful - food, staff, activities, and cabins. It is a long drive, but is well worth it for this amazing experience. Red Dragon takes you to a quiet peaceful part of the bay away from the crowds and noise. Just beautiful ! Be sure to bring cash for drinks (pricey for Vietnam) and for gratuities at the end. I would definitely recommend .... really great !

“Trustworthy agency - Refund”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 June 2012

My family and I had planned to stay on the boat during a trip to Halong Bay this summer. Unfortunately due to a change in plans, we had to cancel our trip. We paid a deposit to stay on the boat. The agency issued the refund back to our credit card with no problem. The agency has been very responsive to all my my emails (I had numerous questions when we were planning our trip as we were traveling with 2 children) and should we ever be back in Halong Bay we will definitely be staying on this boat!

“Private Cruise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 May 2012

This cruise is really private and suitable for couples.
Alternatively, if you have a group of 10 friends and are willing to splurge a little on Halong Bay, go for Red Dragon! Book all the 5 cabins and enjoy the whole ship to yourself.

Booked a tour with Indochina. Email reply was prompt (replied in a day). Went with a friend and was a little shocked when we realised that there were only 2 other groups (couples) other than us. Tour guide was Mr Ahn, he was very friendly and he had a good command of English. All crew on Board spoke basic English but it was okay as we could understand them most of the time.

Almost all the meals on board was seafood. The tour guide paid attention to the dietary perferences of those onboard. He asked us if we had any special dietary requirements. I thought it was very thoughtful of him. The food was good. Drinks was a little pricey but I guess it was still affordable. I really enjoyed the dinner as they specially set up like "candlelight" dinner for all of us. The ambience was good and food was good.

Room was okay, had a very "junk boat" feel. I guess that's what the feeling the cruise is supposed to evoke because it's a junk boat cruise? Anyway, the bed was comfortable. I only found the toilet a bit squeezy.

Halong bay scenery was amazing! Kayaking around the rocks was fun! The interior of the cave was interesting and the tour guide gave very detailed explanation of Halong Bay.

Would recommend Red Dragon Cruise to travllers intending to go on trips to Halong Bay. Do consider staying at least 1 night on the boat because the journey from Hanoi to halong bay is 4 hours. You wouldnt want to go back on another 4 hours drive just after staying on the boat for a few hours :)
