We stayed here for a couple of days. The rooms were very clean, the food good, location was excellent but the best part of the hotel is the staff. They go out of their way to help you and they really make the stay alot more pleasant. After all it is the little things like that that matter! We booked the tours through the hotel and really enjoyed he tours which were great and we had a fab time while others weren't so lucky.
Thanks !

We booked this hotel online. The staff were really friendly and helpful. We booked our Sapa trip through them and it was enjoyable.

They were very kind to give us a room to bathe (TWICE) as we were either traveling on the train or returning to our country. The breakfast is decent. The rooms are very clean and the place is not too noisy. Definitely a place to start your Hanoi journey.

This hotel is described on Hotels.com as being new this year
{2008} I cant imagine which part was new, maybe the laminated floors. The beds were really hard, and after 3 days we were asked did we want the room cleaned, we had not had a change of linen and the towels were so thin they tore if you used them to dry your back. There was no shower curtain or privisions for one, the floor got wet anyway as the sink was leaking.
We heard more noise from the staff in the foyer and dining room yelling out to each other than we did from the street, we asked to be moved to the back of the hotel but the room had a bank of air conditioners outside and no windows.
The coffee at breakfast was nice but the 2 fried eggs and a roll got a bit boring after 5 days.
I have contacted both the hotel and bookings.com and told them about the mis representation that this hotel is new, it is older than I am and I am a pensioner.
I picked out 4 hotels throughout Vietnam and thankfully this, even though it was the dearest was the only one that was a dissapointment.

We were transferred to the Queen Star following an issue with our other hotel's booking. They gave us a room on the ground floor directly behind the kitchen.

Well, where to begin...

The room stank of a damp and musty smell and was by no means clean.

There was a window that led into the corridor with no curtain on it. We had to put our towels over the door to try to keep the light out and for a little privacy. Not that the door closed properly at any rate.

The toilet and shower leaked over the floor.

The price for this little room went from $18USD to $20USD then $25USD for the night.

By far the worst issue was the noise from the kitchen and lobby during the night. After midnight, when the staff closed for the night, they sat in the dinning room which was directly outside our room chatting away. I came out 3 times to ask them to quieten down as we couldn't sleep. They continued well into the night. I would have preferred the scooters outside as at least they stop around midnight.

The staff were in no way helpful. One of them stuck their bike in our door way and made no effort to move it when we came out of our room to check out the very next day.

Given that there were others at the counter complaining about the noise, I am very surprised the reviews here are not worse. Perhaps they have better rooms in the hotel however the service we received was by far the worst in Vietnam.

Do not stay here!!!

We stayed at the Queen Star Hotel in March 08 for 2 nights. We paid USD$30.00 per night for a good room with an opening window overlooking Ma May St ,it was not too noisy.Room was long with high ceilings, small bath room but adequate.Staff were helpful and friendly, breakfast was quickly served and fresh. Overall we had a nice stay and would recommend it to other travellers. It is right in the heart of the Old Quarter close to great restaurants and shops with plenty of atmoshere.
