“Quiet Place in a big city”
Reviewed 23 April 2013

Clean rooms, friendly staff, good bed and (not much but) enough space to move around. And finally a wall of glass between the shower and the rest of the bathroom! Especially the breakfast area on the top floor is great to have breakfast and for a good (evening) view. Also nice to retreat from the energetic city.

Harmony is located in a great location in the Old Quarter. The place is reasonably clean but feels a bit outdated. There is nothing really wrong with the place except it is boring. There is no common or lounge area. The staff can be really rude and they charge a way to high exchange rate from USD to Dong. After noting that it is not the real exchange rate they just act like your stupid. I think it is very bad service to scam your own guests by writing prices in USD and then charge wrong exchange rate just to earn some more cash.

If your out all day then this place is OK however if you want to relax from the busy Hanoi streets than I would suggest going somewhere else.

I stayed here for 5 nights total, with 1 night in Ha Long Bay. Left everything in the room and didn't lose anything. I was really afraid because I had my laptop and a lot of important thing in there. This is the first place I went to during my 24 days in Vietnam and from what all my friends that told me, don't leave important stuff in the hotel. One word of advice is book quality hotels and you won't have to worry about your stuff.

Anyhow, the room were clean and the front desk does speak English. I didn't book my trip to Halong Bay with them but I did book an open tour bus ticket for about $50. Well worth it for my trip to Hoi An/Da Nang, Nha Trang, Da Lat, and Saigon. Advice *from Hanoi, go to Da Nang first, then there's a bus in Hoi An to Nha Trang.* Or else you'll have to pay taxi from Hoi An to Da Nang and then back which is $70. This hotel was close to everything in Old Quarter within a few minutes walk. They have people sleeping on location so if you happen to go out really late, you can ring the bell and someone open the door for you. I only did this once and I felt bad because I didn't know they close the door. But they do lock the door and gates after 12AM or so which make things safe like they won't get rob. They have good breakfast on the top floor with 360 view of the city. Not much to see but at least you'll see sunshine and fresh air in the morning while eating breakfast.

I would recommend 1 night in Hanoi, spend the rest at Halong Bay and Sapa. Not much to see and do in Hanoi IMO.

We had a nice stay at this hotel. The room was spacious enough, breakfast is adequate, and the staff are friendly (they can also speak English which makes conversation easier). My wife and I also liked the location, it is "relatively" near the interesting places in Hanoi (walking is a good exercise, especially in cold/cool weather). We also like the food that we ordered from them for dinner (one night, we were a bit tired from walking that's why we just ordered food at the hotel).

The hotel's driver was also waiting for us when we arrived at the airport. I would also like to thank the driver who brought us to the airport upon our departure since he really waved through traffic just to get us on time for our flight (there was a road repair work on the main bridge on the way to the airport and the traffic was really heavy!)

All in all, we were satisfied with our stay at Hanoi Harmony Hotel. Will surely book them again if we go back to Hanoi in the future.

Room Tip: if you can select a room on the top floor

We booked this hotel based on Internet reviews and were very disappointed.
Firstly, our driver wasn't there to pick us up from the airport. When we arrived at the hotel we were given a different room type than what we had booked and it was only after we complained that they reduced the room rate. Many of the features listed on the website were not available. We had booked a cot but when we got there they advised us there weren't any.
Breakfast was pretty meagre. The bar fridge had a previous guest's open drink in it.
If you are after a cheap hotel in the old quarter and not too fussy it would probably be ok but not what we expected from their website and I think you could probably do better for the price.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. Nice hotel, clean, free wifi, although it didn't work in our room on the top floor. An okey breakfast was included in the rate.
Staff was helpful and arranged the tickets for us for the train to Hue and a trip to Halong Bay. They were very honest about the train tickets' price, so we never had a second thought about arranging the Halong trip with them as well. That turned out to be a small scam on the part of the hotel. They showed us the website where the trip for 3 days/2 nights was offered for 140$, and said that they will arrange for 110$ a person. The tour was described in the folder with nice photos of the ship and the rooms. However, once we got their, we got nothing we were shown. They assigned us rooms on the low deck with engine one side and generator on the other which made it impossible to sleep most of the night. Also, the hot water was only available for 2 hours during the entire time. But the worst part was, that people staying in the room next to us only paid 65$ for that trip and even they were thinking that it was way to much.
The name of the ship was Aurora Luxury Cruises, don't agree to pay more than 60-65$ if you will be offered one! At this price, the tour would have been okey for us, but the 45$ rip off made us very upset and we took it up with the owner when we returned. He said that he knows nothing about it and called the representative of the Aurora to speak to us. The guy showed up within 5 minutes (felt like he was more like a mediator for the angry tourists, than a representative). After hearing for 20 minutes about his misfortunes and poor finances, we managed to get 20$ per person back on the 110$ we paid. The curious thing was that the money was paid back by the hotel, not the representative. And this so called representative only agreed to the refund after he received the approving nod from the hotel guy! So hotel was definitely on it!
So, to sum up, the hotel itself is absolutely fine and the location is great, but be careful about trusting the staff as they will not hesitate to scam you if the opportunity presents. Be careful and save travels.

Room Tip: If wifi is important to you to have in the room, avoid the top floors. Also avoid booking the Halong...

We stayed 3 nights here in total with a trip to halong bay in between. The tour was arranged by staff in the hotel who were honest and did not try to sell us the most expensive but tailored the tour to our needs.

Located in old quarter so can be noisy but is very close to lake (confusing streets though).

First room we ha was basic, small but clean and comfortable. When we returned we were given a big room on 2nd floor which was great!

Staff really friendly :) thank you!

$20 a night. Wifi, coffee facilities in room.
