What can I say, other than DO NOT STAY HERE! You will get ripped off in some way or another. Our laptop was stolen from a locked bag in a locked room! Just read other peoples reviews to see how they too have been ripped off at this place.
The bathrooms were sooo filthy and dated and the shower actully just dribbled water, over the toliet so u had to hold the shower head. Not ideal when your trying to wash your hair etc. The rooms and lift stink like cigarette smoke too!
The cleaners would often come in early in the morning while we were sleeping to see if we were staying another night, when reception already knew we were.. Annoying!!
Location is not that great either, we walked around some side streets closer to the lake & there is lots more to choose from - and closer to many places to eat.
The only good thing about this place was the tour desk lady who works from 7.30-5 each day. She was so helpful, spoke excellent English and was a pleasure to just chat to. Book with her but like I said before, DO NOT STAY HERE!

Do not be fooled, everyone spoke good english until a problem arose, store your gear at your risk, we put our locked bags and they were locked, in the locked storage room well it was when we left (LOL) and went off to Halong bay, came back only to find our laptop had been stolen, suddenly no one could speak the english. We are quite sure we know who has taken the laptop but cannot prove anything. So the cheap rates they charge have proven to be really an expensive stay, as we now do not have a laptop that was a leaving present from our employer. Cannot recommend this hotel at all, take the ride that's offered, but don't stay as tired as you will be look somewhere else. The room was yuck, the bathroom was disgusting and the water just dribbled out of the shower, the balcony was covered in old couches,tv's and old cabinets that they can't be bothered ditching.Granted it is a budget place but there is alot of better budget place's in Hanoi than this place.

Room Tip: Don't stay

for sure its cheap, good structure (some depreciating) but could be very noisy (staff and tourists) some nights. The bar on the first floor runs loud music and most of the staff is not really happy to help, even if they usually will.
Could be ok for a couple of nights, maximum. After that you become to feel not very welcome...

We came here after taking the bus from Luang Prabang to Hanoi. One of the employees miraculously appeared on our bus offering a taxi ride from the bus station to the centre of Hanoi. The taxi ride was very reasonably priced and he didn't push anyone to go to the hotel he was working for. We hadn't booked anything beforehand, so we decided to stay here for the night. The price is good and so is the location, however, the room didn't feel too clean and smelled very distinctively of food, like sleeping in a kitchen. Also, the other employee was being friendly in a way that just came across fake, telling customers how delicate they were. It made us feel uncomfortable enough to look for another place.

After a long trip from Lurang Prabang to Hanoi (30hrs!), we wake up in the bus to see a man offering his services from the station to the city center (where he came from we dont know). He also offered a mini bus for the people we were travelling with which worked out cheaper as we were dropped off at the new south bus station (13km from city center). There was a catch though and it was that he was working for this hotel!

However, he was never forceful with the sell, which was refreshing. Many ppl we were with looked for another place on arrival with ease.

Room wise a very 2-star accommodation. We had a double en suite which was clean but looked grubby. It was kind of run down in the bathroom. The air con worked fantastic though and wi-fi was really strong (on 2nd floor). Showers are hot but loses pressure if you flush the toilet. There was a slightdamp smell in the room and could be noisy but not too bad.

Overall,a decent stay (we paid $6 p.p) but can only recommended for one night. The locationis right in the old quarters amonst lots of cafes and bars. The place does lack a certain personality though and the entrance looks unwelcoming. Still the staff were very friendly and spoke good English. Good starting point if you arrived VERY late in the city like we did!

We got the room at 10$ in January 2012 (twin bed with heating a/c) after much bargain. Despite their shiny, very respectable hallway, the room we got was quite dirty and scary at first. But we soon found out they had clean bed sheets, an ok bath-tub and CONTINUOUS 24h hot water (my fiance does appreciate a lot). TV was not watchable, but they had a fridge (@@ crazy Vietnamese drinking ice-cold drinks by 15C in Winter lol). A/C was giving some warm air, but definitely not enough to warm up the large room.
Noise was not much of a problem with some noticeable bass beat from the street (to expect in this area).
For the party animals around here, we heard they had curfew at 12am ! Anyway, after some tiring days fighting to walk our way on the street, bargaining and the overwhelming noise of the city, we went to bed early. :)
They kept our bag in a not-so-secure but convenient storage room for 2 days, so that was nice. They can change money as well !
