“Great location, spacious rooms and friendly staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 May 2010

We stayed for a night prior to Halong Bay and then returned for 4 nights. The location is great, being in the Old Qtr and easy walking distance to most things. Son (Manager) and his staff are all friendly, helpful and will even change money. They are happy to help with your tours, airport taxi and suggestions for meals. The rooms are spacious, have Air Con, own bathroom and internet and even have street views. Breakfast is also included in the room price. The hotel also provides exercise in the form of steps up to your room, lots and lotsa steps (:- We fully recommend Son and the Hanoi Serenity - we'd go back.

Stayed here with my family for fourteen nights from the 2nd of April. I had read lots of good reviews and was not disappointed. Son and Thuy are a fine asset to the hotel, but I must say all the staff were great always ready to help however they could. We were given helpful information on places to eat, where to shop and even what the reasonable price would be for an item. We booked the Halong bay tour on the Hanoi Opera and loved it. the Opera was clean and far better quality than many of the other tour boats. We also booked a tour to Ho Chi Minh with them to visit the tunnels there. I do not normally eat breakfast but did have it while at the hotel, the breakfast is basic but filling and a good start to the day I loved the bacon. The final night before we left we were invited to dinner with the staff, I was taken by Thuy to the market where she bought lots of fresh ingredients which we took back to the hotel and she showed me how they were prepared and cooked even my teenage son rolled a few rice paper pork spring rolls. Our stay here was loved by us all and my husband is quite keen to visit again as is myself. My one regret is that I followed my husband and was stranded in Seoul instead of Hanoi during the London airport closures. If I had been at the Serenity I would not even have checked to see if the airports had reopened. The only reason I gave rooms less than excellent is because of the climb up to the top floors.

We have stayed here many times and love it! The staff are delightful, the front rooms exceptionally roomy with big windows, comfy bed, internet in the rooms, aircon, sizeable bathroom with bath. Meticulously clean. Higher up rooms are lovely and quiet. Great value at about $25 per night. This hotel can get booked out but the staff will help you find an alternative so its a great place to start in Hanoi. The staff can organise a really good price for a taxi to and from the airport so you can pre-arrange a pick up and arrive without hassle. The hotel is also really good with being flexible about late checkin and checkouts.

The hotel is located near the intersection of Cua Dong & Hang Ga(if i'm not mistaken) streets and it's quite easy to find.

We were welcomed warmly by Ms. Jenny and Mr. Sun when we arrived. After check-in, we're shown to our respective rooms. 1st impression of the room was basic and clean (a table runner to beautify the bed and also a hanging picture of Vietnam), but the toilet just barely made it. Basic amenities include a sliding-door wardrobe, a vanity table, TV, mini bar, a coffee table & only 1 dustbin in the toilet. The water heater was working but the handle of the tap and shower head weren't that clean. High window (2-ply glass for sound filtering) but the glass was fractured on one of the panels.

The street honking (though not that audible) will start 6 in the morning. Word of advice for light sleeper like me, is to wear ear plugs to sleep. They have good variety of breakfast (local & western) and coffee, tea & fruit juice are on the house all day. 2 computers with a printer next to reception table (very popular with guests and hotel staffs, have to wait sometimes) . The staffs are very helpful and friendly.

The location of the hotel is very ideal as most of the tourist attractions are walking-distance from the hotel. The hotel can help to arrange sightseeing tours (the price is average) and purchase train tickets (we bought cheaper tickets elsewhere).

All in all, I wouldn't mind coming back to this hotel given the quality or service and the convenient location of the hotel.

We are a group of 6 blokes who did a motorcycle trip from Ha Noi to Sai Gon during March 2010. We stayed at the HSH for a few days as the location was in the Old Quarter and the rates were very reasonable, not wishing to spend a lot before we left Ha Noi. We had originally booked at another hotel but cancelled after learning that the "cheap" rooms were at the back of the hotel backing onto the building next door. The location means a small walk to see some of the sights but the upside is that the area is quiet at night. You don't have to walk far to find a party! Taxis (always book through the hotel) are cheap.

The rooms at HSH are reasonably spacious (for Ha Noi hotels, generally) with views over the street. The location was quiet and we had no trouble sleeping. The only downside was that the hot water could be a bit "hit and miss" and the bathroom shower leaked onto the floor. That said, you can't expect 5 star rooms for 2 star prices and overall we were very happy with what we got. Suggest you stay on the lower floors (unless you're super fit) as the stairs are murder. These buildings are very narrow and lifts/elevators are just not available in this class of hotel.

Son, (who owns and/or manages the hotel) was wonderful. Yes, the staff were a bit miffed that we had already booked our Ha Long Bay tour and arranged for HanoiKids to take us around the city but we did send other business their way and changed our Aussie and US dollars through him (at very good rates!). Nothing was too much trouble for Son or the staff. Service can be pretty average in Vietnam bit the service at this hotel was 1st rate.

Son seemed genuinally sorry to see us go and we did promise to stay there when we come back with wives. All in all a good place to stay.
