“Ah The Serenity !!!!”
Reviewed 8 September 2010

Before we booked this hotel, we read one review that stated "Don't look any further". We were so glad that we took this advice. The Sreneity is the place to stay, whether or not you are on a budget.
Prior to leaving Australia, I emailed and organised with Mr Son what trips we were interested in doing. We were especially interested in SaPa and Halong Bay.
Mr Son organised both trips for us and I highly recommend the 3 day/2 night cruise on Halong Bay with Hanoi Opera cruises. You may pay a little more but it well worth it.
Mr Son and his staff were fantastic. On our return from SaPa at 5:00am in the morning, there were staff waiting for us and showed us to a room for a couple of hours rest before leaving for Halong Bay - an example how the crew at Serenity go theat extra for their guests.
There was a fair variety for breakfast and I endorse Pho for breakfast !!
The Serenity is in the bustling old quarter of Hanoi but the noise level in the street did not seem to echo into our room. There are six floors with no lift but the staff will carry your bags with a smile. Suggest you spend a little extra and book a Superior room - well worth it.
Next time we are in Hanoi, we will be using the Serenity as our basde. Thanks again to Mr Son and his team.

I can just praise the services of Serenity Hotel. We stayed there for three non-consecutive nights and this served as a great base in Hanoi to explore the North. They turned to be very helpful in keeping our luggage, doing our laundry and arranging taxis, dinners, etc. They let us have a shower before leaving for Sapa even though we had already checked out and they prepared picnic breakfasts when we left too early to enjoy their complimentary breakfast.

The room was clean and spotless. We always had rooms without a window which is great in Hanoi (you can sleep better). The only problem is when you get a room further than the third floor as the stairs are really steep and there is no elevator. I must also say that the staff takes your luggage up and down the room, so no complaints.

It was by far one of the best hotels we stayed in Vietnam, and one of the cheapest also.

We stayed at the Serenity Hotel for 3 nights, the first day they came to pick us up from the Hanoi airport with a car, charging us 15$ for the service. Was a little bit of a surprise because they didn't tell us how much it was since they asked us to pay, but this is the only think I can tell was not excellent about the service we received.
The first 2 nights they gave us a Superior double room at the same price of the standar room (20$). The room was ensuite, very nice and clean, with a fridge, a boiler to make tea or coffee and a TV. The only thing not perfect was the wi-fi connection, very slow, but there are 2 PC in the lobby.
We bought a 3 days 2 nights tour at the Halong Bay from the Hotel, it didn't really worth the money we paid but I think the same thing could be said about every other tour. Anyway, the price should have been 209$ each but they gave us a 20$ each discount.
Back from the tour they gave us a deluxe room at the same price of the standard, the room was pretty much the same as the superior, but with a double bed and a single one, its own PC and a bathroom with a bathtub.
The day we cheked out we left some laundry to do and our largest backpack, we went back to take our staff in the evening before leaving Hanoi for good and they allowed us to take a shower in what I think was the personnel bathroom.
If I havo to go back to Hanoi I would go back to this Hotel, excellent value for money.

We only spend one night there but I think that it was the best hotel of all our hollyday. Very clean, confortable, very nice staff, good location, they allowed us to leave the baggage and have a sower in the evening after chek-out...and very good price. Not a luxury hotel but perfect for visiting the city and relax and sleep. If i came back to hanoi I'd stay again there without any doubt. AH and we had a computer inside our room with internet conexion, andalso wi-fi.

I travelled to Vietnam in April 2010 in a group of 11 friends aged from 23 to 33. We stayed in Saigon, Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hoi An and Nha Trang.
We didn’t use a tour company. We booked all our accommodation in advance from Australia by email. We also arranged airport pick up in advance through each hotel. When we were in each city we would use the hotels to book us dinners, day trips, taxis etc.

When 9 of us arrived to Hotel Serenity we had 4 rooms booked and 3 of them were upgraded for us, which was nice. We were shown a catalogue and told all about the Hanoi Opera Cruise (Halong Bay), which I had also booked through Hotel Serenity.
The deluxe rooms had windows and harder beds and the standard rooms had no windows and softer very comfy beds. All the rooms were on the top floor which had good views from the deluxe rooms windows. The deluxe triple room also had a computer in it. There's no elevator so be prepared for the stairs! Toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, soap etc were supplied. Perfect location.
The rooms and the hotel itself is all very clean.
There are 2 computers in the lobby.
The breakfast menu is good. I think there was about 10 different choices and all yummy.
The staff are very helpful with info, maps and where to go and what to do in Hanoi.
One night a staff member took one of my friends on a scooter journey to get a board game that my friend was asking about - they really go above and beyond here!
Mr Son was so awesome though because he arranged an epic trip for us to meet the other 2 of our group in the middle of Halong Bay and then have a private boat then car then boat again take us to our next destination after the Criuse, which was Cat Ong Island. Then he rang us that night to make sure we were all safe and happy. Then 3 days later when we were on the way back to Hanoi airport (which was another boat - car - boat - car trip all arranged by Mr Son) he rang the drivers mobile phone to talk to me and make sure we were all happy again! Service like that is rare.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

We have just come back from a two night stay in Hotel Serenity and cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. We have never stayed in somewhere so welcoming or with such helpful genuine staff.
Every detail to make our stay comfortable had been considered: complimentary drink on arrival, porters to carry our luggage up the long staircase, excellent breakfast and the rooms for a 2* hotel were a very high standard - air con, TV, fridge (with reasonable drinks), comfortable beds and complimentary toiletries. The staff went out of their way to ensure our time in the area was well spent recommending restaurants, massage spas and sights in Hanoi. Mr Son was brilliant and organised an unforgettable tour to Tam Coc/Hoa Lu (highly recommend this) for us with excellent English speaking guide. Don't bother going to any other agents in Hanoi as Mr Son can organise any trip (private or group) that you require in the the region. The hotel is also just a couple of minutes walk from all the centre of the Old Quarter and the area felt safe at night.
Overall, this is genuinely the best budget hotel either of us have stayed in. The service provided the hotel ensured we really made the most of our short time in the area.
