Room ok, had air-con, TV, hot water, fairly quiet, but bit grotty, towels provided on first day v v dirty and looked like they hadn't been washed.
Breakfast was meagre, hardly worth bothering with. Staff tried to push their tours on you and weren't happy when we didn't want to book them. On checking out, they tried to add extra charges to our bill which was extremely annoying!
Probably better places to stay in Hanoi. Also operates under the name of Lucky guest house.

We stayed at the Victory Queen (also runs under Asia Queen) Hostel for one night in Nov. 2008 (we originally booked for two nights, but because the hostel was simply put disgusting, we left after one night).

Pros:

The hostel is located quite conveniently in the old part of town, literally a block from the lake.

Cons:

The hostel is shaby and smelly; our room smelled like one of these public toilets that hasnt been cleaned in a year. We complained and asked for another room but were told that there was nothing they could do. This also reflects the general attitude of the staff. Overall, staff was not particularly friendly (especially after they realised that we were not going to book a tour through them) and didnt even bother to say goodbye or see us off in any way the other hostels do.

In sum, the worst hostel we stayed during our three months tour of Asia and South America. Dont waste your money. There are countless hostels in Hanoi, competition is fierce and you will for sure get better value anywhere else you go.
