“Good Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 October 2013

We stayed here at the start of our trip through Vietnam & Cambodia. Hotel staff were excellent and very helpful with directions, maps etc. Location is good and most things are within walking distance if you don't mind walking. Breakfast was fine, nothing outstanding but still good. We did not get a view but the room was clean and quiet. Like a lot of hotels in Vietnam there was no pool.

We stayed for 4 nights at this hotel at the start of our 5 weeks in Vietnam. We were well looked after. They organised a local guide named Lucky, incredibly professional and knowledgable. Food was fantastic , cocktails yummy. We were personally escorted to our Day Spa and well taken care of. Nothing was too much trouble. Each time we left the hotel they checked to make sure we had our map and knew where we were going. S

The Hong Ngoc 5 is definitely lower in class than the Hanoi Elegance Diamond. It didn't have great reviews on TripAdvisor but it's really not too bad. The room is a reasonable size. The carved wooden furniture looks awesome - love my Narnia wardrobe - but to be honest it's pretty uncomfortable. The desk/chair are the wrong height for each other, the wooden chairs aren't cozy, and the bed is really firm. Oh, and the computer crashed + the fridge doesn't work. On the other hand, it's high floor so is quiet-ish+ comes with a computer & WiFi + staff have fixed the pc (and the mouse works once you slip a book underneath it).

There's an ATM at the entrance (withdrawls from it on credit card statements show up with the hotel's name as a warning to save confusion!).

Breakfast here is forgettable and there's nowhere brilliant to eat nearby. Best to go for a 10 min walk down to Ta Hien.

Room Tip: Ask for high floor to make the motorbikes very slightly quieter

The reception staff are helpful. The bedrooms are clean and a good size. The bathroom is also a decent size. The breakfast has ample choice in the buffet for both western and local tastes and you have the choice of freshly cooked eggs too. There is an ATM right by the entrance and you are no more than five minutes walk from the old quarter.

Room Tip: Higher floors offer good views over the local area so it is worth asking for a room on these floors...

We stayed at this hotel in June before joining our intrepid tour. We found this hotel very good,
the staff all very friendly and helpful with tips and directions on arrival in this very busy city. The rooms were clean and breakfast really nice with eggs cooked to order. We would definitely stay here again if we get back to Hanoi.

We (50ish couple) stayed here for several nights before and during an organised tour.

We found the hotel staff helpful, knowledgeable, and the facilities just fine for a comfortable stay. Not 5 star, but definitely a solid 3 star. Not too busy a street, ATM literally at the door, Internet worked fine, at least for our email type use.
Definitely recommend as a welcoming, comfortable, safe base in Hanoi.
While the hotel knew that we were joining a group, we did not get the sense that there service was targeted just at such people. Furthermore, there appeared to be Vietnamese 'locals' also using the hotel .

I enjoyed my stay at Hong Ngoc Cochinchine Hotel in Hanoi Vietnam. The staff was very helpful even loaning me some flip flops because a tropical storm made regular shoes un-useable. They provided all other amenities and were always friendly
