“Hanoi's no. 1 hotel with no. 1 Manager Mr Duc and Staff!”
Reviewed 23 December 2012

Best value, best staff, best location which all contributed to a great holiday. We arrived in Hanoi and spent the first four nights at Hotel Charming where the staff were friendly, attentive and helpful without being instrusive. We returned several times following trips to other areas of Vietnam during our stay, and each time we returned we were welcomed as good friends by the staff; from Mr Duc (day manager), the Night Manager, Hong (one of the lovely receptionists) and the stewards. The willingness and readiness of the staff to look after us and tend to our needs was above average. The hotel is centrally located in the Old Quarter in a laneway which hums with activity by day and quietens at night. We would happily stay at Hotel Charming and thoroughly recommend this as the best place to stay whilst enjoying Hanoi.

The hotel is located on a quieter street in Hanoi’s old town; the staff was very friendly and helpful, and value for money was outstanding. Breakfast was good, room size was very good (esp. in the “Executive Room”, which, though windowless, was bigger than the more expensive “Charming View”). The location can’t be beat: about 10 min. to Hoan Kiem Lake, with fantastic food options all around.

Room Tip: As I wrote above: the windowless rooms are quieter, larger and offer better value.

Charming Hotel is true to its name! The most charming staff you will ever find not only in Hanoi but also in the whole travelling world (way better than Australia, Turkey, Jordan, Singapore or New Zealand). A friend and I (two seasoned lady travellers) stayed at the hotel for 6 days and both of us agree that Charming hotel is a true to perfection service! An eloquent staff that will bend over backwards - that made our stay comfortable, no worries, safe and protected. Indeed, we got our money’s worth and we will definitely stay in Charming Hotel again. It’s like a five-star hotel service under a good budget!

First day of arrival, we were very early for check-in but the staff graciously let us stay in a temporary room with all the comfort for rest and shower. Yen, the reception staff, made sure all our luggage are brought in the temporary room and we can rest fully as we wait for the proper check-in time. With her excellent English, we understand easily the ins and outs of Hanoi. She suggested the best way to dine, commute and enjoy Vietnam.

Hong, the next shift reception staff, excellently assisted us in transferring to our standard room. With fluent English, she explained clearly the road maps and superb places to visit around town. She also gave a fair warning on what not to do and how to enjoy the journey. Hong’s extra mile service is such a breath of fresh air! She booked, checked, and double-check all our travel agents, transportations and hotels night and day. Superb! Plus my friend and I safely drove a motorbike in the wild streets of Vietnam ☺ Hong called the motorbike rental company, she even physically checked the motorbike for us and gave us a short talk how to drive it.

Phuong and Huy, of the reception desk, are always a joy to talk with, even at night time when we go back very tired from travelling. They took everything quickly and efficiently from fixing the computer connection, cable TV or finding other Vietnam provinces to visit. They took great care even of the smallest details like cleaning our trekking shoes. What an extremely good spirit of service!

Charming Hotel has an impeccable transport service! The airport and train station pick-up is on time, no confusion nor worries even at 1am, 5am or 6pm. Tu, the busboy/security staff , never left our side. He brought us to the train station, waited with us until the boarding time, helped with the luggage, check the cabin and made sure we were in the right beds. And even when we came back from the mountain trip, he was there to pick us up at the train station so we can go safely to the airport.

Our room comes with a daily breakfast. It is very simple but Lien, the bar and kitchen staff, cooks it delightfully. With all the hotels we’ve stayed in Vietnam, Lien is the best in making a simple meal very delicious.

The hotel's location is very strategic. We walked around town, shopping areas, famous attractions and dining places. If it's a town away, we rode a moto (motorbike) or ride a taxi. We just ask Charming Hotel to book everything for us even in a very short notice. They do everything with warmth and honest smile.

It is not a brand new building but it is well kept. The chambermaids are very diligent in cleaning and replenishing necessities.

Cam on (Thank you) Charming Hotel! See you soon!

Staffs are very good and hospitality. I am very impressed. Front Staffs are fluently English speaking, so no problem in commuication or ask for help. Room is clean. Great service of the other staffs eventhough they don't speak english

We heard stories of really poor accommodation at this price range in Hanoi, but this was surprisingly good. Large, clean rooms, decent shower, comfy beds, flat screen tv with decent English speaking channels, good breakfast, free wifi and even a pc in the room. Staff were great - one or two speak really good English and are very kind and helpful. Great location too - everything is within walking distance, but ask for a map. We had a terrible experience with a 'fake' hotel pick up driver - maniac, even by vietnamese driving standards. Staff were really understanding and helped us sort the situation out when we arrived. Would recommend - we even booked two extra nights.

Room Tip: We stayed in 302.

I really enjoyed my stay, from the moment we arrived the staff were welcoming and extremely helpful. They always went out of their way to assist us. For the level of service and the location, I think the value for money was great; with a basic breakfast and internet included. It was always nice to come back to such a calm and friendly environment after exploring the busy streets. Will definitely stay there again if I return to Hanoi.

Good budget hotel in the old quarter. Walking distance from attractions like Hoan Kiem Lake and water puppet theatre- about 15min walk. Easy to find your way back to hotel. Safe location.

I stayed in a double cityview room. Its obvious the room has seem better days as its not a new hotel. However, Room was very clean, had electric kettle, PC with Internet, TV. Bed had a spring mattress which was rather on the soft side, which many will no doubt like. Shower works well, though it isn't really seperated from bathroom area. Still, overall very good facilities in room given the price.

Room had a large window which looks out to the street. Having said that, there isn't much of a view, except the narrow street below (which can be interesting) and the neighbors apartment approx 3m opposite. Still, I appreciate the window. It's less claustrophobic. However, window means that the hustle and bustle of the street can be heard from your room pretty early in the morning, especially given the very frequent honking of vehicles along hanoi roads. I guess you have to consider whether you prefer the feeling of more space and street view or a more quiet room which allows you to sleep in till later if you're a light sleeper.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. Airport pickup service is prompt and hassle free.

Breakfast is included in price and there's continental or cooked breakfast (eggs& bacon with toast or noodles) or yogurt available for breakfast. Starts around 7am. The variety is limited but again food is decent (how wrong can u go with the above items?!) and service is gd.

Recommended :)
